What do the Wings do with the money they have left?
Majsheppard replied to Bert44Wingsfan's topic in General
They should just give the 7million to Smyth so he doesn't go to the Avs like I am hearing... -
I wouldn't say never for as it is etremely unlikely now, it could still happen in the future. We could actually still sign Smyth if hasek doesn't take over 1.25 million.

Blake, maybe Bert. WE NEED CLUTCH GOALS!!! I still say screw Hasek for anything more then 1.5 million, and thats being generous. I think D is set. Also be smart Holland and Give Zetter the same contract you gave Pavel right now. Won't effect the cap this year, and you will prob need that couple of hundred of thousand saved in rapid inflation. -
I thank you. Of course we all know Lids could leave at any time, even if he doesn't he cannot play forever. No matter how much we hope him to follow in Chelis mold and play until the Pyramids crumble. I just think that 6 million does hurt us this year. Especally if we are going to pay 2.5 million to Hasek in hopes to win right now. WE NEED CLUTCH GOALS!!! I do think Schneids leaving hurts that instead of helping. While without a doubt it is a better long term deal assuming Rafalski fits our team (all signs point to yes) in the short term I have to wonder. The real question is will he live in Dearborn again? Or will he find another nicer area to live lol.
-
Does anyone else think that Gomez may have been a better add then Rafalski? Especially for the same price? I don't think that is the case, but Gomez may be my favorite player in the East. I will be a bit sad we missed a chance at him.
-
He is dumb as now the Wings may not have the money to get another top six foward he could make the jump to the second line.
-
This is without a doubt a preemptive move to deal with the loss of Lids. When they eventually lose him theoretically we will have a top two defensemen who is a hometown guy to help soften the blow. I just have to wonder what is going on in terms of getting goals. This doesn't really help us with that, and if Zetter has to be the one to take this one on the chin I'll be pissed.
-
He is most definately a good Defensemen. I just hope he comes in to own for his hometown. We need him to play GREAT for 6 damn million a year, because now we are not going to get much else. I hope they manage Blake now.
-
I dont know if I think this is the best move, but after Schneider leaving I needed this.
-
Sign Bert for one reason, I want him dead. My second favorite Dman, has just become my least. Bastard.
-
Not the right size or even close to being made of metal. I say 250 is way overpriced for it.

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic.../706250310/1128 There it is, expect only two of the four big free agents on the Wings to return. (Markov, Bertuzzi, Schneider, and Hasek) Easy question, which two do you pick? Personally it is an easy choice for me, Schneider and go after Smyth or someone else. Markov would be decently easy to replace. Bertuzzi is a jerk, and didn't perform to my high standards. Plus it would cost us another draft pick. Hasek played great but didn't perform to the point where he deserves a massive pay raise when he has a questionable groin. Plus we have a couple of decent goaltenders already. Schneider can only be replaced by a much more expensive Souray. I think that Schneider is a great fit and a better person so I wouldn't want to risk making that switch. Plus that would leave it all to the youngsters on offense, when we have more depth and youth in our D core. If we are making the push for a cup, I think Detroit cannot gamble on Hasek at 2 million or more. They should try to use the young Defensemen to replace Markov and get Schneider back to keep our Defense stable. It was the best in terms of shots allowed which should help out Osgood and Howard/Liv/someone else. The team needs to be smart and finesse fix the Offense and defense. Be agressive with the top six, and be conservative elsewhere. I would like to see the lines fall out like this. Zetter/Pavel/Homer Smyth or Blake/Filp/Franzen Malts/Drapes/Cleary Jiri/ Langfield or Kopecky/Samuelson Lids/Kron Schneids/Lebda Cheli/Quincy Meech or someone else. Osgood and someone else. I also know that this will become a pro/anti Hasek thread. I would like to say that I don't want to see him back for anything more then 1.5. Cheli signs for minimum, Hasek should do the same if he wants to win. If he signs for that then I will pray his groin holds out and root for him. Until then, I say go to hell.
-
Mark my words. 2.5 for Hasek is the biggest mistake ever. We are not going to win a cup with him because our defense will be thinner and our offense still lacking that one player. The season is going to come down to another make or break trade at the deadline, and we will have one less pick if we sign bert. Plus no cash because Hasek is greedy. Wouldn't the money from your clothes lines improve with a cup more then takign it from your teamates?
-
I am going to complain. 2.5 is too much for him. Plus that million in possible bonus money could make it harder to sign players next year. Screw this.
-
That would be great! Unfortunately those aren't the projected salaries. Hasek is looking for 3 right now. Schneider is looking for over 4. and Bert thinks he shouldn't have to take a big pay cut, so he will look for over 3.5 I hear 4. That is more then we have. I'd rather give Smyth 6 and Schneider 4 (apprx). Or Blake 4 and schneider 4. and Give Hasek 1.5 take it or leave it.
-
I wondered that too. Though I know that the actual cap number is somewhat not important on new signees. Agents are smart, and whatever extra space will figured in when they make their demands. Thats why caps are not a solve all. They just cause regulated inflation instead of free market inflation. The benifits are real, but not enough to solve our problems. I think that also supports my position. People like Hasek and Schneider, should emulate people like Yzerman. They should get to the point where they realize they are not the focal point of the team, and the best choice is at a certain age to stop grubbing for money. They should look for the right fit and then look to help the team. Their goal should be to retire on top. Hasek should come back for the same cost, he is already getting incentives. Schneider should do the same.
-
Hey no one wanted to give Hasek a shot. We did. It worked for him and now he wants to bleed us dry. Tell me how that isn't anti-team. Tell me that isn't an ego trip. He should realize that if he demands more money, he is only going to take away his defense. It was the strongest D in the league, and made his job alot easier. I think a year older and with crappier defense he might not be as good. Or his groin gives out and we are stuck with Osgood anyways. I say try to make the team better elsewhere. Oh and Bertuzzi is a jerk. He crippled a guy with a sucker punch. Thus a jerk, I don't hate him. I just think that there could be better choices out there.

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...ORTS05/70613048 There it is.
-
You assume they will make the playoffs. I have my doubts.
-
We don't have hasek. He hasn't signed and if he wants more then 2 million I would say go to hell. Raycroft could be a quick fix, but then again I think Osgood could be as well. Simply put I don't think this would happen, but if it did I wouldn't be pissed. As long as Howard is still the goaltender of the future.
-
Big targets, but are they for the Wings>? Sheldon Souray Jason Blake Ryan Smyth It seems to me that the Wings are looking to bring back the people we have and add one of these big three guys in some sort of combination. Is the offseason considered a bust if they don't get one of these three guys added to the lineup? Personally I don't know what they are thinking of doing, but I would like to see aggression, so I am just going to throw out my Free Agents I like. C Scott Gomez C Dainius Zubrus C Bryan Smolinski C Yanic Perreault C Mike Comrie C Jan Bulis LW Ryan Smyth LW Pascal Dupuis , LW Richard Zednik LW Niko Dimitrakos RW Jason Blake RW Bill Guerin D Sheldon Souray D Brad Stuart D Teppo Numminen D Brian Rafalski D Darryl Sydor

Rumor: Blue Jackets may buy out Fedorov's contract
Majsheppard replied to HockeyCrazy3033's topic in General
I don't want him anymore period. -
Well if he signs one top six forward and played a youngster up there forwards would be taken care of. Schneider would the top four man. As for Goaltender, Hasek made nothing last year and I don't think he is going to get 3 million this time around. We have alot of money without it being a 52 million cap. If it is, bonus because 14 million dollars is roughly 7 million more then would be needed to sign anyone we want. We have depth, we need to improve from the top now.
-
Lions have won championships. If they won it would be no different then the Wings who didn't get close in four decades. They would instantly get an energetic fan base behind it and become huge around the country. Sports is for being optimistic folks, save your negitivity for the upcoming presidental elections.

To your points, Couldn't agree more Also true, but also contigent on Schnieders availablity. Jason Blake is a Holland type guy, and there was intrest at the deadline. Everyone is in our price range. We have money. It simply is whether we want to be gamble big, or be safe for the future. Considering our core players being older, and the last couple of years. I want to see us go down gambling. I'll be pissed If Schneider comes back only for him and Zetter to never win a Championship while that dick Pronger gets a cup. None of your points can be taken serriously as long as you misspell "Canadian" This will be the last time I respond to you until you get a decent name.
