    No worries about Hasek.

BTW for anyone who insults Osgood and thinks he cannot win you seem to be missing some marbles. I did some math and I think it illustrates how solid we are in net. This season Hasek only has a .009 save percentage advantage over Osgood. So out of 1000 shots Osgood will let in nine more goals. With the two goaltenders facing a combined 22.45 shots per game, that would mean nine more goals statistically would be let over 44.54 games! With 28 games maximum in the playoffs, 5.66 goals extra would be let in assuming Osgood plays four rounds of 7 game series. This year we have scored on average 1.297 goals per game more then allowed, or we win our games by 1.297 goals on average. This goal differental would come out to allowing .202 goals more per game. Meaning we would still be in the black by 1.095 goals per game. I don't worry that much about that. When Osgood won the cup with us, he let in 48 playoff goals in 22 games with a .925 save percentage. While Hasek let in 45 goals in 23 games with a .920 save percentage. The difference is quite small statistically. I want to also remind those who had no faith in Holland, to learn your lession and keep a little faith for the Wizard. Our goaltending is rarely the reason we get beat, it is our opponents goaltending that is....

See that is why I need someone to sponser me into Canadian citzenship. America sucks for Hockey Fans. Very little hockey outside of our Wings and while TSN was announcing the Bertuzzi trade, ESPN News was talking to John Elway and Jon Bon Jovi about the start of Arena League Football. Sigh....

    No worries about Hasek.

Never quote me logic, I know logic. I compared their two cup runs where they were but one game difference between the two. Then I put out that in the limited time this year for Osgood, they have the same shots against, and but a .009 percent save difference. Does that mean his saves were better, no. It just means that statistically with the data in hand there is little difference. If the teams Osgood plays are worse it has no real effect on the numbers offered. Why? Because their shots against per game are almost identical! If anything that proves that we allow more shots when we play non playoff teams, which is hardly a slight against Osgood. Read the post before you insult my logic sir. Because you insulting logic by infering that I made any such exclimation of his superiority with biased numbers. It is people like you that make it impossible to bring intellegence to the message boards, and threads that degrade like this that keep me to 300 some posts over a year and a half. It just hurts my head.

    No worries about Hasek.

I just don't understand why a defense for Chris Osgood being a very capable is see as an attack on Hasek. I don't understand how it has to be one or the other. Really what is that all about. As for Crymson's use of Osgood having alot fewer games as a reason for throwing out the numbers, I would rather question why he doesn't get any chances. I always think of Goaltenders as replaceable parts, because they are the last line of defense. A good team will keep the puck out of scoring postions and help the goaltender keep low percentage shots the only option. Good postioning is 90 percent of the game and rebound control is another five percent. I still think every goaltender we have played the past decade could win a championship with our teams provided they received the right help. The point of the thread was to try and stop people from arguing against Osgood as it silly. We are luck to have two of the best statistical goaltenders of their generation on the same team, and not have to pay them a kings ransom as they are considered past their prime. Anyone who have watched them this year, knows they are not. There are some numbers to back it up. That is my point.

    Bring up Bootland

Oh GOODIE, how I missed this thread. I get jumped on for having a few coy and humerous threads, yet this one keeps on poping up and is always serriously discussed. I just don't understand this place sometimes. NO Bootland doesn't fit on the team. He is good for nothing but picking fights, and yes I know that is what you want. It won't help the team though, and well isn't that what is really important? SERRIOUSLY why do we have to keep putting ourselfs through this pointless debate.

Thanks! I told you I know a thing or two about hockey. I mean it too. Of course I didn't expect you to disagree with me about how Osgood can get it done.

It is going to be Jiri (REX) or Sam.

    No worries about Hasek.

Not my job to worry beyond the playoffs. Which I am very interested in getting to, I got a good feeling about this years squad. Knock on wood.
  11. Weblog says... The Griffins apprently think the Wings trend of dropping out early is cause enough to put Filppula on their playoff roster. All this means that if we do not win a cup and fall out, Val gets to keep on playing down in GR. I hate to be rude, but I think the Wings have a much better chance of going deep then the Griffins do. Let us hope anyways.

Filppula gets a major complement, Wings get insulted.

No, it implies that there are bad drivers and bad luck is very real. Also it implies that there is legal racketeering, but that is another story. I don't know why no one can see the humor in this? It is with a great deal of complements that they would sacrifice a roster spot for someone that may or may not be available to play. Besides, I am just the relaying the story.

    Robert Lang

You know alot of what will happen will be tied to how close we get to a cup. If we win one, I wouldn't be surprised to see a youth movement. If we get close we might resign Bert or make a move to arm up for another run. If we lose first round or second, it will be hard to tell. I do know that Pavel will most likely cost the kinda money that will be prohibitive to getting a major top six upgrade. I am okay with it though in the short run, as Franzen and Filppula are most likely second liners. 3.8 million for Lang is not happening again, but Babs seems to be loyal to him for some reason. I wouldn't be surprised if we keep him for the 2 million range, but it is unlikely for sure.

    Game Misconduct?

Lebda got a game misconduct for not having his jersey tied down in the fight he got into according to CBS sportsline.com. Did I miss something? When did they put this rule into place? Another one of Bettmans anti-hockey rules no doubt. Well I get why now I rarely see the classic jersey over the head move. Oh the memories.

    Game Misconduct?

My rebuttal, sir. This is what I grew up watching, and it is what a real fight looks like.
  16. Majsheppard

Filppula gets a major complement, Wings get insulted.

Oh no doubt, I suspect it was Holland's call actually. It just is funny for anyone to make such a move as it IMPLIES that the Wings will be outlasted by their farm club.
  17. Majsheppard

    Robert Lang

What upsets me is the fact that Franzen who has done everything the Wings have asked of him, and has sparked some life into the second line along with Calder, will be asked to drop down to the fourth line or be a healthy scratch when the playoffs start. That doesn't seem fair to me. I am glad we didn't get Nolan when you realize how much of a logjam we could end up having.
  18. Majsheppard

    Game Misconduct?

Well I guess that shows you how little the Wings get into fights. I have watched well over 90% of the hockey games since the days when we had a goalie named Tim, a fighter named Bob, and a leader named Steve. I must say I never heard of this rule. I do know its a stupid rule, because fighting FTW and the jersey is the major unique x factor involved in hockey fights. Obviously this is a Bettman rule.

    Calder fitting right in

I think this is the first time I ever have been complimented on this site. I thank you for that, I'll try to keep making equally good points. As I have been doing for a couple of years here, although very sparingly.

    Calder fitting right in

No, I don't believe that someone on these message boards thought they knew more about hockey then Ken Holland. I won't believe it. You got to have faith. Also it helps to watch teams besides the Wings play every once in a while... The impressive thing is that he is lost right now. You can tell how he is out there just playing, not being in perfect position and being a little unsure on where everyone is on the ice. He is out there just working hard and giving it all. This is why he is doing well now, and the fact that he fits our cast more then Williams is why he is going to be good down the road. I got a feeling we will resign him too.

    Brian Burke: Trade Diary

    oops double post- sorry.

    Brian Burke: Trade Diary

To me alot of this is for show. He seems to be trying to save face with the owners and the fans by saying, I was not the reason we f***ed up so bad. Which is false, it very much is his fault and he is a whiny jerk. He constantly blames others for his problems and doesn't take responsiblity. I am so happy they got hosed this year, and I hope its a trend. I won't be happy until Burke is out of hockey.

    R.I.P. Eklund

I agree Eklund is terrible, but better then your average bystander on this or any forum I don't agree with. I mean how many times I have read something equally as silly on the threads with no backing. Or when anyone would bring up an opinion, it would be met with ill willl. Not unlike Eklund. Truth is, people would much rather have bad information then no information. Ask the CIA about that. (haha) Which is why both the sites got so much traffic the last weekend. I hate to defend the ramblings of this crazy man, but I feel I must be fair. You have to put up some bad information on the internet to get some good, because of the haste. If you wanted accuracy you would have waited until the trade deadline has passed, and maybe read it in the paper. I am happy that TSN's feed was broadcast on NHL, and are so happy someone on this site put the link up. Otherwise I would have most definately gone insane during the deadline.

    Future of Wings goaltending

I have been thinking about this alot. I have come to an opinion that the Wings might look to another short term goaltender. They won't put Howard in the number one spot next year for sure, and I don't think they want Howard backing up right now but getting EXP, so he might stay in GR. I think they might take another shot at Biron in the offseason in the two year range. Howard would come in after we let Osgood walk (sad) and split the goaltending in the 50/50 range. If they couldn't get someone to be the starter, they could do something agressive like make a move for Turco as I feel Babcock has some sort of grudge against Osgood. I don't think he will give Osgood a number one gig unless he has no other choice. Howard looks good, that is for sure. I imagine that at some point Liv might get moved because he could be a starter as well.
