I truly believe our options are so few and the prices are so high, we can't be involved in the deadline this year. We need to let the farm grow, and the youngsters on the roster prove themselves. Free agency the next two years has too much potential and too much on the line to risk our own adding pieces now.

Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?

I am going to save this for reposting, because it needs to be said. I truly believe our options are so few and the prices are so high, we can't be involved in the deadline this year. Yzerman asks Pavel Kubina to Provide list of teams

I really, REALLY, really hope this ends all the let's add a defenseman talk. I truly believe our options are so few and the prices are so high, we can't be involved in the deadline this year. Well... that is just the thing. Crosby is one of the most liked players... and the most hated. Because that is always the case. I would bet money that if you asked everyone in Detroit who their fave player who isn't on the Wings is... and their least favourite. I would bet money that Crosby makes the top three on both of those lists. And team wise, I bet money the Wings are the most hated and most loved team. Big figures are polarizing like that.

Yzerman asks Pavel Kubina to Provide list of teams
Majsheppard replied to Ozzie30's topic in General
Thank god he has been traded to philly. Our second and fourth round picks would likely be at least 1200 NHL career games worth of player. I honestly would take St Louis if he is available. A first fifth and some mid level prospect? -
Seattle has more disposable income than Portland.

Yzerman asks Pavel Kubina to Provide list of teams

Also, Kindl is getting some bad press for making a mistake last night, as E has in the past. Kubina is NOT known for his consistency. In fact the bio on The Hockey News suggests he is well known for making mistakes in his zone. To me it feels like adding a right handed Ericsson with more experience. I don't really want to do that unless it doesn't hurt the team. I don't think there a way to do that. -

I am not overlooking the NMC. I didn't say it would happen. It is just a statement saying that is the only way I would be okay with it. I just want to say that Kindl's age and experience in the system is important. I believe you can't go to the young guys too fast, so that leaves Smith. If they lose Stuart and add Kubina, that means you have old and very young with E being the only guy in the middle. For the sake of argument... Let's say they add Kubina for Kindl, and then next year Lids comes back, they don't add anyone of note. So we have Lids, White, Kroner, Kubina, E, Smith, Commodore and maybe some minor addition... Ages next year. 42, 28, 31, 35, 28, 24?, 34 and the following year maybe... 29, 32, 29,25... and whatever else. If they they kept kindl... it would be 42, 28, 31, 25, 24,34 and the following year. 29,32,29,26,25 which sounds much better to me following the loss of a legend. Make this double when you consider every player in that group has played with Lids and the Wings for at least a season and knows the system. Meaning they can help carry on his style of play by continuing how he taught them. I am a huge proponent of this way of replacing him. This is the major reason I wouldn't want to mess too much with the D. EDIT: I also am not assuming Kubina plays well. He has seen better days. -

You know, secretly Tatar is hoping he is traded so he can play with St Louis. Secretly I am hoping we trade for St Louis. I would take him and Kubina if it was possible without destroying our farm system. Likely, it would not be. -

Kindl is young, Ericson was in the same boat, as is every young defenseman. Kindl plays better than Commodore, and is growing. All I am saying is you get rid of Kindl, be prepared for him to be a solid player. I forgot who said it, but this could be Kyle Quincey all over again. In order for you to get me, I will say this straight. I would rather have a 25 year old than a 34 year old right now on this team. I would rather have Kindl than Ericson. Not only because I think he will be a better player in the long run, but because his contract is garbage. Jonathan might end up being a solid defenseman, and people don't give him credit for how much he has improved. I just think his ceiling is drawing near, and Kindl hasn't had enough time to show his full potential. In the modern era, you just don't give up on players early. I think it is too soon to give up on E as well, but if you are going to give up on someone it would be him. I don't want to give up Quine for him. I would offer Ericson and Conklin with a mid round pick for Kubina and a late round pick. -

Because if anyone thinks he could turn it around, it would be Yzerman. Also low risk, and their goaltending has been pretty poor as well. -

I haven't read the entire thread, but I just thought... could Conklin be a part of the deal? -

Only way I would take Kubina is an Ericsson for Kubina+ trade. Just to free up money in the future. If Kindl or any other defensive player is involved, I am pissed. He is a temporary upgrade over Kindl, and Commodore wouldn't clear waivers or return anything in trade... Getting Kubina means losing one or both of them... then it should be a pass. The simple fact is, even if we only trade draft picks (WHICH I WOULD HATE IN THIS TRADE) Then we lose a roster player to add him anyways. I wouldn't want to lose a single player from this roster without it being a clear upgrade. I believe that E on the back end is the only player where it would be a clear upgrade and a straight deal doesn't seem likely, nor would us getting equal value. Would Yzerman want his awful contract? I doubt it. I will be upset if we lose any of our forwards, and all but two of our defensemen to pull this off. It doesn't seem like a smart move. -

I hope Hank doesn't play, get the rest and maybe Tatar can use pylon Gill to get his first trick hahaha.
-
I would love if Gill plays tonight. Mursak, Helm, and even Bertuzzi can use their speed to go around him!!!

If you remember, about 10 years ago or so when Sports Illustrated turned fifty they had an issue looking at all fifty states and their poll numbers as it comes to all sports, athletes, coaches, etc. Pretty much every State that had a Sports team would have that sports team ranked a higher percentage than any other team in terms of favourite team, as you would expect. Almost every single state without a team had the Wings as the most liked NHL team, and most states had them in second place if they had a team. The other leagues had similar numbers with the Cowboys, Yankees, and Lakers. I think it is clear we are in that spot, at least back then. I doubt that it changed much. Although where Yzerman was the most liked athelete then in the NHL, it might be Crosby now. I really made myself sick with all these statements. Obviously those teams disgust me. For the record none of them run their team as well as the Wings. They are different sports with different issues but the Wings actually scout.
-
Yeah, I suppose. I think it would be a ONLY a little bit like if we traded Stuart because he is UFA and we could plug in someone else like Smith. It doesn't show confidence that they can win it.
-
Yeah, but Geoffrion still has upside, and Gill... well you get a role player out of Gill. I have always thought he was over rated. Considering this does NOTHING to help Nashville's real problem now... There will have to be another deal to make this not a stupid move in my book.

Same thing I said for forwards, the team is doing very well. Why mess with it? Even worse is the Defense is already super deep. We have 9 guys I would trust in the playoffs. -

I am getting sick of talking about this. Selanne will stay or be traded based ONLY ON WHAT HE WANTS! They don't want to trade him, but he came back to win. He says he wants a trade and he gets traded. They owe him that, and all parties know this. The Wings are going to wait and see if he passes the word to them for a trade. It might not happen, but I hope it does. -
Obviously this is a sign that the Stars are giving up.
-
I always thought Mursak would end up taking his spot. I would like to see him get a bit more time now that Zetter and Cleary are taking a break.
-
Yeah, but the Wings never rush guys and like rewarding hard work. I am sure you will see all the depth guys getting some time.
