No offense either, but those bi-yearly reminders were also covering Commodore and Babs as well... It might have opened the door for anyone at this point. I didn't think they would sign him though, older and the type of player we already have.

Here is an idea. Since he basically owns the Yotes, he should give his salary directly to the payroll so they can actually sign players up to the cap, get better, and stay there like he keeps harping on about!

Trolololol. I get sick of that. I also get sick of realizing in life you are going to end up missing people. Draper is one of those guys... He brought as much to this team as any member of the Red Wings, because he brought a ton to the team off the Ice. I will miss him.

His numbers do put him as the best of the best. His play does too, he was clutch which is worth a hell of a lot more. I watched the games before Osgood, during his hay day, and after and still don't think there is a glove hand as good as his. There definitely is not a stronger mental Constitution among goaltenders. He isn't the number one goaltender of all time, but he without a doubt is in the top twenty, and as you said there are thirty or so tenders in the hall so I don't see why you would leave him out just because he was on a good team. I seem to remember there being a HoF defenseman on the Devils... should we leave Marty out? Oh s***, Yzerman played with tons of hall of famers, better leave him out as well. If these statements seem absurd, it is because they are. Osgood shouldn't get that treatment.

Then a single goal keeps him out of the HoF? That is weak, especially considering all the bogus calls that lead to goals in the series...

Sawchuk was the greatest goaltender of all time. Just saying.

Crap if you compare everyone to those players... there would be 10 players in the Hall of Fame. Compare Osgood to the HoF goaltenders and he fits right in... I also look at Ed Belfour being inducted... I think Osgood was a far greater goaltender than Belfour. The numbers don't support that, but I think he was a better athlete.

I agree with you, but I also think I'd be less disappointed if there wasn't such a strong campaign against him.

That is my belief as well. Though I personally think the organization will retire his number provided he is in the hall of fame because he was a good solider for them. That is his X factor, but it still is dependent on being in the HoF. Also apologies if I sounded like a prick in the last post.

Sometimes I wonder why I even post... In three threads I have suggested already that the two of these questions are linked. I believe that the only way they hang his number is if he is inducted into the HoF.

The only thing that can help that franchise is for them to be sold to a better owner. I really think they need to be moved. I would prefer them to be the team that goes to Quebec before the Yotes. I can think of five spots that deserve a hockey team before The Panthers.

I was always wondering when a team would try to get in on the Military theme. Nothing makes you more popular in America than suggesting you care about the troops. Nothing. Bettman should make sure then next team in America has a military theme, then it might not actually fail.

I need to look into this... but I don't think they own the rights to the old merch or logo... I am 95% sure that the rights to that belongs to Coyotes, which belongs to the NHL... I never heard of them making a deal to acquire the rights to the old name or logo... which perplexes me. Wouldn't it be funny if all the money they make selling old Jets stuff, or a portion of new Jets money (because they are using the name...,) end up going to the yotes? I would laugh... but does anyone know how this meshes up legally?

Like I said in the other thread. I like it. Vintage military-esk, honors the Royal Canadian Air Force, and looks like it is a 1950's style which plays into the whole Old Time hockey motif. I like it... I just want to see how it looks on their uniforms before I pass final judgement. Maybe they will go with a silver instead of White as the base color. It also looks like a target to shoot the puck at in hockey practice, the goaltenders SV% must go up now...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if both of them are making six next season... I also wouldn't be surprised if they are both making between 5-5.5 million. I assume the latter actually.

I think they work really well together... It looks like vintage miltary flyboy stuff. I bet the sweaters will look really clean and like old time hockey. Also, you know the Goalies will do a great job because they have a target on their chest. All the pucks will hit them right in the logo for sure!!!

Everyone seemed to skip over my comment about this. I think the only way he gets his number retired is if he makes the HoF. Then he gets his number retired for sure. I doubt anyone will use the number, at least during his tenure on the team office staff.

I know no one can send offer sheets. I don't know where you got that I was suggesting that... I also know he is going to be in arbitration, though that doesn't mean he will sign that deal as they could offer him something else. They have the cap for him no doubt, but if they think they won't be able to keep him for next year he might be dealt. Like Hossa was. I think we are on the same page for sure. The only thing that doesn't make your thoughts about Semin now, Suter later work in my mind is that I don't think Holland wants to pay that much for a rental anymore. I still think his number one target is Weber, and he will wait and see if he can get it done after the 2nd, or maybe even at the deadline. Here is a thought... Maybe he gets Semin now, and then uses him as a major part of a deal for Weber later... If Nashville wants to make the playoffs and thinks they will lose Weber to UFA, they might be convinced to make a hockey trade for him. In which case having an asset like Semin would be very important.
