Pay him that much to back up. Then trade him at the deadline for something. Call it an investment.
-
I agree with your Kronner comparison, with the exception of the term of the contract isn't long enough. If we didn't overpay, we will have to give him a raise in three years anyways. If we were going to pay him 3.75 I would have liked him on the team for 5 years. Then it would have at least been a deal at the end. I think the Wings should try and sign Vokoun to a one or two year deal with no NTC. Trade him at the deadline. The guy is solid and we do have 9 million to play with. That way we can at least turn that extra cap cash into draft picks. Maybe even a Dman at the deadline. Someone is going to want a goalie bad at the deadline.

Yeah, but four firsts might be the cost... Again, a cost I am willing to pay. Most everything we have on the team came without the use of first round picks. Again, Would it is a different story if Kronwall said he wanted out of town. His value falls too, and it isn't like these deals are McLeod and a pick. We are talking 6+ players that will play in the NHL. Most with upside that could make it a steal for them. COULD... but isn't that the point of trading for futures, you HOPE it ends up being better for you. I think the point here is what could it hurt to offer a big package like that. If they say no we are no worse for wear.

Miller signed. 825k a year.
-
Well, their shoes is the NHL, and I don't know if they are willing to spend. Secondly, how many times did I say I know the value isn't what the pick is, but all that together should be enough to equate to 4 firsts, which is what they would get via RFA. Ferraro is still ranked in our top twenty prospects, which should be top 10 for Phx. Just saying. I am speculating, if I were in their shoes I wouldn't even think of trading Yandle. I would pay the man.
-
I second this... However I could totally see him stashing a ton of cap with this UFA class. Besides the next three years we have players due big raises. It is going to take a ton of cap, and maybe he just figures this is how he makes it easier in the future.
-
As for Ferraro, I don't see why a 32nd overall pick would have no trade value... He should be worth a first... I know it doesn't work like that, but combining two first like players, Emmerton and Ferraro- should be like a first round pick for sure. Sheahan should be worth a first. Kindl should be worth a first. Failing that combining the two should be... Hudler and two firsts on top of that should definitely at least make 4 first rounders worth of RFA trade value.

Could you imagine... Lids Ericcson Yandle Kronner Smith Stuart Commodore... Sigh... I know it is just a dream and this won't likely happen... Yet it would make me feel so much better about the following year.
-
Agreed, which is why I was hoping Sheahan and Ferraro would be enough to satisfy the Prospect portion. Maybe even one of our D prospects like Marshall or Lashoff. Kindl would be a piece that would be okay to move for a Yandle, and should have enough upside that it would be tempting. In fact there is nothing to say Kindl couldn't become a Yandle like player, though it would be surprising. Did Yandle say that? I just have to say we have the ammo to make this deal, but how much do we use... I know they might be set on a certain player... I am hoping that we can give them more of our trash and they would be happy because it is still better than what they have. I would throw Emmerton in as well, because I would be fine using Draper another year in that role. He was a first, who is fully groomed and ready to go. They could use him as well.
-
Failing that, any of our picks from our current draft can be thrown in no problem.
-
Can we make it Sheahan and Ferro instead of Nyquivst? Lol.
-
The one thing that makes your case for it being a similar trade is we can never know what people actually want for their players. That might work unless they don't like a certain player. I would like to do it without Fil, because now I don't know if we can replace him... unless we want to rush Tatar along... Any ability to make the deal without Fil or Smith? Something like what I suggested can be enough if they like getting a ton of players back. Which they might... Hudler might work because they need some cap... Anyone think we could move some other Dman... like Stuart even to get Yandle, then add White to replace Stuart?
-
I hear we resigned Pyett as well... and the E deal has a modified NTC... sigh.
-
Don't tell me what I will do... You're insane. See, I didn't call you crazy!
-
I think Bogo has to be signed for a big amount for Peg to make the floor.
-
Might be our last shot for a cup for Lids, should try and make the team as good as it can be.
-
Yeah, I noticed that right away but was not surprised by it. That was sort of the story last year, and the money for E made it seem more so. This doesn't mean he won't try to improve the d further though. Ericsson will not be traded, trading someone you signed just a few moments earlier ruins your ability to convince players to come to your team.
-
Can't be both overpayment and not enough... Can it? I think for a shot at winning a cup this year and getting another piece in place it might be worth it... Any suggestions on how to make a deal based on those players?
-
That can be done... I wouldn't rush to offer them Smith though, I would try everything else first.
-
What do you think of Emmerton, Hudler, Sheahan, Kindl, Larsson, two firsts? Close?
-
What don't they need... I would even give them mccollum if they wanted.
-
More reports that they are entertaining offers from clubs... I am digging to see if the wings are one of the teams.
-
For a guy like that you don't think we couldn't make a strong package? What is the maximum you think we should trade for him, if available? Who is untouchable in that deal ?
-
If they did, it sure is a secret.

I really hope we do go with Ozzy. I mean, we aren't being serious about making the team better, so at least we can take care of our own.
