I think more and more every day that we should try to get Richards. Honestly, the people who want UFA more than anything might be the only ones left. I would love so much to say eff you to Toronto and the other teams trying for him by signing him. Hopefully get an NTC that expires next season so when UFA sucks next year as well, we could trade him for a high draft pick.

How is that overpayment? He has numbers and the cap just inflated by 5% this year. If you are comparing it to Franzen... Who had a long term deal that brought the number down and was a hometown discount, the cap number is comparable given a few years inflation. Plus supply and demand is a big factor as well. He is the number two PLAYER available in UFA. Center is also the thinnest. It is a high number, but this is the market value for him. Not overpayment. This is why the CBA is still broke, or at least needs some serious tweeking. If I were the Caps, I would pay him that in a heart beat because they could always trade it later, someone will be desperate for a center and this is a steal two years from now.

This situation is going to get ugly again. I know it all has been said, but it just seems no one is interested in making hockey work in the desert. It really could work, but only if they run the team right. Bryz showed us with his effort that the team is not going to build towards any sort of success. Easy to do so, actually the fact that the cap went up so much makes it easy for people to retain UFAs this year. We might have no choice but to go forward not spending to the cap.

I don't know about you guys, but it worries me a little how everyone is getting signed. Saying that I still expect Wiz to be signed by us. I just don't know how much UFA is going to help us if this keeps up, because we need more than one easy signing to help.

He is the clear choice. He has all the experience you need, a history with the team, a desire to stay in the area, a winning record, a grittiness, and can put himself in the position of leading the Defense. Even Lids would have to listen to him, as he could always pull out that he was drafted before him in the same draft!!! Honestly I looked at all the names being thrown around, and I cannot find a better fit. Offensive coach is much more up in the air, and honestly should be someone that can blend our 90s winning with our 2000s winning styles. Igor would be the perfect fit, but I don't think there is a snowballs chance of that happening. Oh and Emma, his tween girl has on her facebook her favourite team is the Wings... Clearly he is going to sign!

Every player is different. If they do better by getting called up earlier, they would be. Some need more time, and some lose interest if they dominate too much at a lower level. We really haven't had anyone like that in a while. Tatar could be that, maybe Smith if he isn't up this year.

I say try to sign him until he is 37 at a Zetterberg like level. If he shows no interest go get Laich. The way we talk about wanting skill, it makes me think we will go after Richards. I don't get why we would do something so drastic for Columbus. We put in decades in the West, let them do their time. My major concern is the talk that there might be more unorthodox playoff and scheduling decisions made. Watch us go east and still have to play in California a ton.
