We should just play the Leafs the entire preseason. It is a great deal for Toronto Fans and the Wings organization. They get much cheaper tickets and a chance to see their awful team, we get to sell out preseason games that hardly any Detroit fan wants to pay to see. Win-Win.

The Hockey News is a better source than ESPN for this stuff. Oh well, I would think it would have been a one year stop for him anyways. Boughner and Gallant please.

I would point out that American money inflates at about 2.2% a year. There is another way he is making less real purchasing power for his efforts. For him to have the same value that he was making with 7.6 million in 2005, he would need roughly... $8,850,541.91 to make the same money. Or... let us just say we talk about his 6.2 contract.... $6,336,400 would be an estimate of how much his contract should have been worth given a COLA or cost of living adjustment. His money in 2011-2012 will be worth $6,066,536.20 in last years money... Just shows you that the NHL is greatly outpacing normal inflation... much like Gas. Don't feel bad for Lids though, he could easily be making 8% on his money if he is well invested. Which means when he was making 10 million back in the day he should be making at least league minimum of 750k just in capital gains... and the tax rate for that is even lower than his original earnings. You can take two viewpoints from that, either he should have taken less because enough is enough, or he is taking less for certain and we should be quite happy. The truth is at this point it doesn't hurt the team as much as it hurts the fans who pay for the seats. If you don't mind then who cares. I am happy Lidstrom will be back. I believe I will go put this up on my blog.

Burns is available. However, he is an inconstant player. He might turn that around or we might overpay to get someone who never turns into a top tier guy. I never have been sold on Burns, but if Holland wants him he can get him and when Holland wants someone I am usually sold on him.
-
Good news, LeBrun says Holland also says he'll explore trade route this week at draft as another measure to improve defense. Other teams may need to shed $$$ Cotsinka says: Holland: Yeah, we're looking to be active, and we have money to spend. But we're not going to spend just to spend. I hope we go hard after someone that helps our team an extreme amount, either long term or short term. Since the Draft is involved, I will restate that I hope Holland goes to trade up for Larsson. If not we could trade for someone like Burns instead of developing a defenseman.
-
If this is his last year.... I would have been happier if he said I will come sign after Holland is satisfied with his roster, no matter how much is left for me. However, I never expected that to be the case. It would have been something I would have done because I love this team. However we often forget that Lidstrom loves his family. That has to be a bigger love, and would most likely lead to me wanting to build the biggest nest egg ever. I am not going to get into a class warfare mode here, but either way we should be happy. One last shot for Lids, whom we owe as much to him as anyone. With the cap going up and Lids in place, I want us to get the best players in the world. I don't care if people scoff. Bieska, Wiz, and Brad Richards. I will take that in a heart beat. Sign people now and trade them next year for all I care, let us go at the cup. Stanley or Bust.
-
NOW LET US GET AGGRESSIVE!!! Fixed that for you.
-
I would love both actually. I thought Bieska was their best defenseman. They might have won if they didn't have the injuries, or if the Sedins played well, or if Rome didn't make the biggest mistake ever and destroy Horton...
-
I think it makes it more likely. Weber might not feel as loyal now that they made this move. It ensures that he will be in Nashville at least one more contract, but it still could be a one year contract. UFA next year perhaps.

I cannot find many facts upon the 1984 riot. It doesn't even have a wikipedia page or is listed in their riot list. The only fact I can find of note is AP. That isn't as bad as what happened in Vancouver, with the exception of one death. At least in the perception of what is available. I can't find any evidence of anything happening in 1990. The only references are from Time and SI articles talking about it in the past. Cannot find original sources.

It just feels like there is better use of our money, but then again who knows. I just think that the cap will keep going up, so I feel we should sign some big names for long term contracts. Saving money in the long run like we did with Pavel. One year contracts on old players doesn't seem smart.

I am a fan of Greene. I could link you where I get all those numbers from, as they are not mine. However I don't really care to, especially because I don't think it will happen. Just as I said in my posts this is based off of other peoples numbers. That would be my best case scenario of just UFA's.
-
Why bother, no matter what you wish for others will just look down their noses at you. I don't think people get the idea of what a wish list is... Oh well. I know I have three right handers on my wish list. I will leave it at that.
-
This is my wild dream based on some flimsy contract proposals floating around the web. Don't think it would happen, but it would make me the most happy, and three right handers added is a good thing. CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Brad Richards ($6.000m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.000m) Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Drew Miller ($0.650m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.000m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.500m) Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / James Wisniewski ($3.750m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Chris Osgood ($0.750m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $62,500,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,667,044; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $832,956

Some basic logic. Not all rioters were Canucks fans= True All rioters were not Canucks fans does not equal Not all rioters were Canucks fans. Some rioters were Canucks fans, some where not. Anything else is a cop out.
-
Personally, I would be really upset with Nashville for doing this to me and I would make sure that I got my UFA now. Not saying I wouldn't resign, but I would try to make them pay.
-
Two points. First off, they are wearing Canucks gear. You don't spend 200 bucks on a jersey without being a fan. Secondly, why do they have to be black???
-
I am with you 100%
-
Does this hurt Osgood's HOF prospects? I am thinking yes as a hall of famer usually gets to call it a career for themselves...
-
My link BTW if anyone can help ID. It would be appreciated.

Carolina seems to have lost two players. Oh and Franzen being traded would only be a good idea if it was the right return.
-
Boughner is the guy. Windsor guy so he will stick around forever. Tough guy and former enforcer, so the players will get rougher. Defensive guy, which we need. Oh and TWO Memorial Cups, back to back which is very hard to do and the kind of passion we need to keep winning cups! I not only could see him as an assistant, but a possible future head coach.

I buy my stuff there! I wonder if I can be a late bloomer in the NHL!! (not serious folks)

I never said they weren't upgrades over Draper. However, Drapes still won faceoffs, still was a grinder, still played excellent defense, still acted as a leader, and still worked harder than most of the players on and off the ice. He contributed to the team, and as a 13th forward he had a ton of value. Mursak, Emmerton, Miller, Eaves, Helm, Abs, none of these guys would lose a spot to Draper or significant ice time for development when we lose Modano and most likely Hudler. There also is no one in GR outside of Tatar that would be a realistic long term call up in case of injury. The truth is he still has value as a depth role player, and he would easily accept a minimum contract. He is worth that much if all he did was come to the rink everyday and led the workouts as he is known to do. He should be resigned, unless they fill out the roster in some other way. Which could be the case. I just prefer they use the cap space on the top end guys and fill out the roster now with cheap guys such as Draper. Osgood is a different story, one that depends on what the Doctors think his conditioning is at. The surgery he had is supposed to have made him stronger than he was for the last two years and if his body holds up I have no problem giving him 20-25 starts. I would expect him to get no less than 12 wins with that load. He also would be a min contract, and that seems like a better deal for the team than spending 1.5 million on a guy to do the same. Howard is the guy, and Osgood is a perfect backup because I still think he could win in the Playoffs if Howard went down. I would want to bring Joey back to be the third guy though, no matter what we choose to do. For both players, I would just let them know that their status with the team would be determined near the end of free agency, not the beginning. Making any decisions before we round out other important issues, such as the defense and coaching, is just plain folly.
