Latest Rumor: NHL Team Expected to Announce Rebranding in 2012
Majsheppard replied to Hockey13Playa's topic in General
Here are some I think they could go with... Calgary Charred Logs- as the Flame isn't there (at least not in their players) The Washington Ovechkins The New Jersey Cap Devils- Dancing with the devil- at least with the devils cap. The Buffalo Slugs or Maybe the re branding will be removing the slug.... The Long Island Iced Teas- as the only way you can watch them is if you had a few. The Columbus Tressels- So they can finally win a championship, if only to have it removed thanks to tattoos and cars later... The St Louis Avalanche and the Colorado Blues. They are basically headed that way if they keep trading their players... The Gerber Baby Penguins The Nashville Bar-gunshot-victims, or maybe the Nashville annoying fans. The Philly Goaltenders (Maybe the only way they ever get a goaltender...) And the Canucks will be rebranded, the Canucks of the city that used to be Vancouver, until it was burned to the ground while celebrating our Stanley Cup victory. -
This would be another great year to trade down. It would also be a good year to trade up. Great talent at the top, and it is pretty deep for the first couple of rounds. If they think they can get a good defenseman that can step into the NHL soon in the next few years, I think they will take that guy. Whether they have to trade up for him or not. The Wings are a team that drafts the best player available, but this year I think they are scared about their cupboard being emptied of Defense for the first time in a while. With all our great offensive prospects, they will take defense, and I think they want someone in the first two rounds that will step up sooner rather than later. I also think this player will be a defensive first Dman. Brodin is the one I would bet on. Addendum, if we took Rocco I would expect him to play like Patrick Kane.

I don't like the idea of Fischer. He really wasn't great at "Red Wings Hockey" when he was here. That is to say he wasn't a hockey genius. He was a hard worker and a great guy, but I like our coaches to be encyclopedias of hockey knowledge and success. I would like them to only pick former players when they have already proven themselves with significant coaching experience. Remember, even Gretzky sucked as a coach. Gallant and Boughner would be my first choice, but then again I don't know what they really are looking for...
-
I actually think hiring the right coaches is far more important than signing players as of right now... and it just got harder losing MacLean. The last thing I want is Babcock-esk coaches coming in, we need coaches that can coach the players how to play Red Wings hockey so Babs can continue doing his thing well.
-
I would love to have our hires be Gallant and Boughner. I think that would be a good duo to coach.

The thing about goaltenders... They can be worth that much one year and not the other. Consistency is key with a backstopper. I really think Bryz made a fatal mistake here, because he clearly was worth that much. There was no doubt that he was a top tier goalie. In fact he was better than everyone you listed there at one point not so long ago. This year however was bad for him as so many goaltenders, led by Timmy Tom, put on clinics in both the regular and post seasons. Then you could tell that he just wanted out of Phoenix in the playoffs and looked like the worst goalie in the league. I still would rather have him than Lou and Brodeur at this point in their careers, even with his bad performance. Honestly, I think the best goaltenders in the league consist of Pekka, Lou, Tim, Miller, Bryz, and Henrik. Because they have a sting of really great seasons and a ton of skill. Bryz just looks like he doesn't deserve it because he had a couple of horrible games. When you think about it, most of the other guys have as well. Make no mistake, if he looked like the third best goalie in the league and lost that first round he would have gotten what he wanted. I just might be surprised and find out he still does, Philly is desperate.

On the hotstove they said it was down to three final candidates, but they didn't say who were the final three. Personally I want Boughner to be our new D coach and MacLean to give us at least two more years before taking a head coach job. I would rather Maclean go if we got Boughner, because I think Gallant could take his place. Not saying that Gallant would be better than MacLean, but overall I think that is a better scenario.

I disagree. It depends only on how the player turns out. If anything it seems more attractive when you can bounce the player to the AHL. Look at what even a six year deal has done for Pavel. Made him a steal at his current salary due to inflation. Same goes for Zetter. I remember the same being said for Kronners contract. Franzen might be the illustration of how it didn't work if he remains inconsistent, but it is still a good deal as of right now. Rafalski himself looked like a bad signing in terms of being expensive, but good in terms of talent. In a few years it was a friggin steal. If he signed a deal and became UFA when Campbell did... Could you imagine us signing him back for 8 million?!?! It has worked out for many teams, and there are just as many teams where it was a huge bust. Most of them have circumvented this problem or dealt with it. It comes down to how the player turns out, which is how any contract really works. It seems pretty clear that overpaying is a problem that becomes less noticeable over time. I would like to see more of the clear cut bluechips signed to age 37. I know if Helm wants that term for somewhere around 2-2.75 Million, I would take it in a heartbeat. It will eventually be a steal.

The word is he is seeking a five year+ deal in the range of 6.5-7.0 Million.

I think many of the trade offers are really underwhelming here.... What about something like this. Landon Ferraro Cory Emmerton Riley Sheahan Hudler Draft pick(s) (which is basically like a good winger and three first rounders) For Jeff Carter and Colburn. Our team would look like this. CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Jeff Carter ($5.272m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.750m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Drew Miller ($1.000m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.000m) / James Wisniewski ($4.000m) Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / Braydon Coburn ($3.200m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m) Doug Janik ($0.512m) / Brendan Smith ($0.875m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Chris Osgood ($0.800m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $62,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,893,938; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $506,062 That is how it would look on our end.

I think many of the trade offers are really underwhelming here.... What about something like this. Landon Ferraro Cory Emmerton Riley Sheahan Hudler Draft pick(s) (which is basically like a good winger and three first rounders) For Jeff Carter and Colburn... That would be adding 8 million in salary and dropping nearly 3 million for about 5 million of additional salary. We would still have upwards of 7mill+ to do with if Lids came back at the same price. add Wiz and the defense is better and the offense is better. It would cost us forwards, but nothing too our farm can't absorb right now. Here is what they would have if they paid Bryz the six million. CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS James Van Riemsdyk ($1.654m) / Mike Richards ($5.750m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) Kris Versteeg ($3.083m) / Daniel Briere ($6.500m) / Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) Jody Shelley ($1.100m) / Ian Laperriere ($1.166m) / Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) Blair Betts ($0.700m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Daniel Carcillo ($1.075m) Ville Leino ($1.250m) DEFENSEMEN Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Chris Pronger ($4.921m) Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m) / Matt Carle ($3.437m) Sean O'Donnell ($1.300m) / Oskars Bartulis ($0.600m) GOALTENDERS Ilya Bryzgalov ($6.000m) / Sergei Bobrovsky ($1.750m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $62,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,979,761; BONUSES: $1,700,000 CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $420,239 A pretty young team that could win the thing.

I get the feeling that it would be either a perfect fit or a disaster with no in between. That is why I would hope it is on major discount that we bring him in. Give us the opportunity to make other moves. I also wish we would hire our defensive coach already so we can figure out exactly what type of players would help our our long term system. Maybe see who that coach has ties to...

I still don't get why anyone wants a new arena. When that happens ticket prices skyrocket. We have pretty decent ticket prices and there are no bad seats in the place. I wouldn't trade that for some new corporate seating and some aesthetics. I like history.

The best shot we had was trading picks, not players. Emmerton is the guy I would peg to be the basis for a trade with Philly. Then we would need to put Filpulla in there, because I doubt they would want Hudler. Now I would consider trading Hudler, Filpulla, Emmerton, and two firsts for Carle and Carter. I would even offer Bertuzzi if he would waive his NTC, which he won't... If they want the rights to E, go ahead and throw that in lol. Here is a cap number. Not saying we do go after Bieksa, but just showing that the cap money is there. CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) / Jeff Carter ($5.272m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Patrick Eaves ($1.750m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m) Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Drew Miller ($1.000m) / Kris Draper ($0.750m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Matt Carle ($3.437m) / Brendan Smith ($0.875m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.500m) / Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Chris Osgood ($0.750m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $62,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $60,018,938; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $2,381,062

Word has it that they are close to getting a deal with Columbus for a top-six forward and the eighth overall pick in this year’s entry draft. If that is the case... you can forget about us getting him. BTW, horrible guy to put with Nash. IMO. They have been looking for a top center forever. Boy would I be pissed if I was Carter and traded to the Jackets. His lifetime contract would be like a sentence then.
-
EDITED It is a horrible contract. Maybe they can buy him out.
-
If they move Carter, I want to be their partner. I don't mind Richards either... but something tells me Carter would be the best addition to a team overall. He would look good in a Wings uniform even if he was expensive. My gut says Pronger is the one to end up being traded.
-
I somehow think Pronger is the one on the move...

Interest in richards

Interesting possibilities in trading with Philly... It is possible that Richards or Carter could be moved this summer out of philly... I know it wouldn't fix the defensive problems, but perhaps I would make a run at Richards or Carter. Both are ideal fits for our team. I believe Carter has more upside and his right handed shot helps. Both are two-way players that could contribute to the team and help us improve our top lines, which I believe are worse then our overall offense due to incredible depth. I propose using up some of that depth to improve. Any thoughts on what it would take to get Jeff Carter? I am wondering if they would take Hudler, Bertuzzi, and draft picks. Bertuzzi and Hudler are Flyers type of players, and taking both of them would help their cap situation now and later. Plus it would be trading two potential 20 goal scorers for one 30 goal scorer, which is good imo. It would also allow us to keep Draper, Miller, and Eaves for another year and still bring in Mursak and Emmerton while improving. Plus it would keep Zetter and Pav together forever, maybe even freeing up Filpulla for top line duty, or a trade for a dman... It also would help take some of the sting out of losing Raffy on the back end offensively. We could still sign one or two defensemen.
-
We burned our bridge with Meech. Janik actually is a NHL cailber dman, he does nothing but play defense but he does that well.

Reminder, the tweets have made an impact on some of the sports writers. It would make a bigger impact if more people did the same. #MoveDetroitEast Tweet at anyone who cares about hockey if you want the team to go East!
