Are the Wings going to keep the Hawks out of the playoffs?
Majsheppard replied to cupforwings's topic in General
I don't think it is going to happen, which makes me hate to say it but... We have to let them win. If we let the Hawks line up with Vancouver, they will do nothing but allow the Nucks to destroy them and give them the confidence to win the cup. I don't want the best team in the League getting stronger by beating a crippled Stanley Cup defender. I really wish there was a rule against finishing against an opponent with so many games in short order. It ruins the idea of a first round match up with Chicago. -
I am not surprised, but I am mad. I wanted to watch any of the 15 million games tonight that has a big impact in the playoff picture. Instead Versus insists on a meaningless game. Grrr. Anyone know the links to a good streaming site? I really would like to watch Chicago get thumped by Montreal...

Oh I know, and I am excited for him as well. I just don't want to rush anyone based on excitement, I want him to end up being a big part of our team. I just feel that Kindl could be a quality top four defenseman and he might not get there if we just bring Smith up next year for the hell of it.

The black aces will be the perfect choices. Who are those? Only the Wings know for sure.

I am super happy that the song Detroit 67' by Sam Roberts is being played. I would KILL to hear that sung in unison by the Joe over a cup. That would be fantastic to hear everyone cheer. Oh Oh oh-uh-ooo-o-oh-oh Oh Oh oh-uh-ooo-o-oh-oh I know not enough people know this song, but it is really great. The music video will choke up any real Detroiter. In fact, check the lyrics. I went walking at street level Feeling strange and disheveled Past the abattoir and the glory holes Like a film noire, in the starring role To the side streets, kept my nose clean Tasted beautiful, tasted obscene Singing, Oh Oh oh-uh-ooo-o-oh-oh Oh Oh oh-uh-ooo-o-oh-oh This is Detroit, see the skyline A commotion on the assembly line Raise a glass to the Ambassador As she's moving you to the dance floor Does anyone here tonight remember those times? Can anyone here tonight just tell me what they felt like? So many years, so many lives These are the streets where they collide From Jimmy Hoffa to Cadillac Some look ahead, I'm going back Cause I'm just looking for some sounds To ease the vice that squeezes us every day This was Motown, this was New France Where the Chippewa did the firedance That was long ago This is here and now But the memory still remains somehow Singing, Oh Oh oh-uh-ooo-o-oh-oh Oh Oh oh-uh-ooo-o-oh-oh I can't tell you how this old story ends I can't touch you now, like they did back then Past the child's play with the jump rope Hear the gun play, it's a tightrope Does anyone here tonight remember those times? Can anyone here tonight just tell me what they felt like? Does anyone here tonight remember those times? Somebody call the riot police, there's trouble down on 12th Street

If there was one F/D/G you could add to the team, who would it be?
Majsheppard replied to a topic in General
Stamkos Doughty and I could care less about the goalie. Maybe Timmy Tom. -
I disagree. He shouldn't come up until we have a definite spot for him. He is far too good to be fighting for ice time, and Kindl and Ericsson need it because they could be good themselves if they get the right experience. Another year in the AHL would get him to be more prepared mentally and physically. He should also have a shot at an AHL MVP if he could get the griffins into the playoffs. He needs defensive work, and it wouldn't hurt for him to help McCollum get back on his feet.

Love the little blurb on sportscenter about Detroit
Majsheppard replied to luvpucks's topic in General
What really sucks is TSN is really, really good. Not only in how they pay attention to hockey, but in how they actually have transparency in how they track down stories, interact with each other, and have people who know the games, instead of just big name former athletes and catch phrase jack-offs. If only they would give us the choice of which to have... it would be a no brainer. -
Also, who would he replace? Kindl and Ericsson are getting better. Salei is the only true stay at home defenseman we have...

Crosby's family trying to convice him to retire?
Majsheppard replied to Rick Zombos Ghost's topic in General
I wouldn't rush it if I were him. Yet if I were him, I would have such a huge head from everyone telling me I am the greatest that I would most likely think I was invincible. Because if he is back before hand, he might have to retire. Savard is pretty screwed up. Now Savard, he doesn't deserve that... -
Agree with all of your picks and honorables as well. Though I would much rather have Anze than Pal. If I was to pick a Shark to have, it would be Couture. He is a beast. I would also through Skinner into the mix before Joe. Heck why don't we throw in wingers. I would love to have a Dustin Brown. Or how about... Oh I could go on forever.

BTW, would love to see Atlanta move. Good team on the rise in a market that doesn't care. Moves Detroit east, and maybe the Panthers move to Atlanta a few years after that and strengthen Tampa Bay. Still want Arizona to carry a team, all those people there are redneck cold weather transplants, so they SHOULD be able to support a team. They just need to actually have a shot at a cup. Yandle is moving them in that direction, but losing Brys would be the end of that franchise. I continue to think that Seattle should have a team. It would be a good foe for Vancouver and can definitely draw better with the loss of their basketball team. The Key Arena would be a good home for a team from a bad market.

I was under the impression that there was a housing boom in the area over the last 10 years. Is this not true?

Could care less about this game, provided we stay healthy. It is days like today I wish we could call up all of our prospects to play.
-
Sure seemed like the answered the bell, at least for half of the game. Honestly I hope they lose the rest of the games, while playing well and staying healthy, until the Chicago games. Then I hope we blow them out of the water, and help Dallas take their playoff spot.

The panic button has been pressed. It has been pressed most definitely by the fans and some of the media. Again the players haven't seemed to hit the panic button, but instead hit the self-assurance button. We all know Babcock has hit the only button he has, the grumpy button. But will anyone in the organization hit the launch button and get this team flying towards the ultimate goal? There are many threads throughout the year talking about what the problems are and how to fix them, but we need to recognize now the regular season doesn't mean anything except for three final games. Nashville, Chicago, Chicago. Three games. Both Nashville and the Hawks are 2 wins behind us, four and six points behind respectively. Assuming they can run the table in any game not against Detroit then we have work to do. If all three games are won Detroit gets the divison title and can finish on a winning upswing in the last five games. This can jumpstart them and get them ready to go. It would also shake the demons that are Nashville and Chicago, who both have our number. Honestly would it surprise anyone if we run up against these teams in the early rounds? If we can beat Nashville (in regulation time) and split with Chicago even if it is an overtime win, we get the division. That is the most simple way of saying that we need to get back to winning, and the only games that matter, the only ones that can prove we are capable of making a run, and the only chance we have of setting our awful March right are these three games. We must stay healthy first and foremost, then we actually have to win at least two games, and today is one of them. Today is a rare "must-win" game for a team that is backing its way into a sure playoff spot. Because when a team isn't in must-win mode as it backs its way into the playoffs, it surely is ripe for the first round knockout blow. You better believe Yzerman is letting Tampa in on that.

He might be better than our bottom three of 7 D, but it isn't always who is the best who is on the team, but who can clear waviers so others can gain experience. Ericsson and Kindl could improve a lot still with regular playing time. What if you brought Smith in, and Kindl rides the pine? He could end up leaving and being a great dman for someone else. Lest we not forget Quincey. Another year in GR would not hurt Smith, and it would most likely help Kindl. Sometimes that is better in the long run for the team. Of course if Lids goes away, I don't see Smith being left off the roster.

All I have to say is, the Penguins have had bigger injury concerns than us and are playing better than we are. Sure they haven't had as many injuries, but the quality of their injuries are better than ours, and we pretty much have the same amount of points. Byls has impressed me more than Babs this year. I look at how the Wings have been playing, and how the rest of the league has been playing and I think that we are the worst in terms of drive and direction amongst the playoff teams. Even 8th seeded Chicago and 9th seeded Carolina seem to be more mentally prepared for a run at the cup than us. I had a ton of hope that we would be winning a cup this year, and now I wonder if we make it out of the first round. I never am this panicked about the Wings. Something just isn't right about them and the omen of Lidstrom being a negative player is quite foreboding to our immediate future.

When he retires, I hope that they put a DVD out that has all of his off ice moments.

Why I don't want to play LA in the first round
Majsheppard replied to CrimsonFlame's topic in General
I totally want to play them now, with Anze out. No Anze and no Williams is like taking 6 goals minimum out of the first round of the playoffs. I want them to be our first rounder. Especially if we make it a short trip. -
I hate this, because the Kings are my second favourite team in the West. Anze might be my favourite non Red wearing player, and it really stinks because the NHL is better off with a good team in LA. However, they are now definitely the team I want to play in the first round. Give me the Kings without Anze as my poison pick.

I honestly think this deal goes down in the Off-season. I really think it will, because Holland just thought will this help us now... and the answer was no.
-
After seeing the trade for Penner... I say we move Jiri next deadline. We could get two high picks easy for him. Based on that trade, I would imagine that Hudler straight up for Bogo could happen.
-
Agreed, good deal. Consistency? One can only hope.
