I am more interested to what the plus/minus shift will be. Remember Buff screened goalies, Madden and others did a great grinding job playing defensive forward. I think people forget too often that players, even if they are putting points up also have to make sure the other team isn't... cough cough, not like we have any of THOSE players cough cough. This could hurt Chicago even more than the points, but that Playoff point count is disgusting. Love the legwork! These are the posts that make me come to these sites. I apprecate the hell out of it! One thing you can give them some credit for is that they didn't lose but one player without getting something back... I mean that is somewhat impressive with their cap problems that they get back a bunch of prospects. They have to have a strong farm system right now, because they had so many bad years and now they have so many prospects from Atlanta and Toronto... who has had so many bad years!

Who do you think will pick him up off waivers? I would like to see it be a contender.

In all seriousness, someone in the business made a great quote about trades not happening and I think it applies here. The teams with money have no cap space, the teams with cap space have no money.

I bet this slows down FA signings because some teams might want to see if they can pick him up before they sign anyone. Not many teams, but just enough to make midlevel signings take an extra day.

Wow. His contract wasn't that horrible for his good years, but it was terrible for his bad years. This is a good year scheduled for him this year... I wonder who is going to pick him up. I bet he could make someone alot more dangerous.

This is very true, though they are not built top to bottom like Chicago was last year they would have some firepower on both ends of the ice. Not enough to be called favourites. Yet I would not count them out.

They sure did, but Chicago definately got the most hype. Chicago was the team to beat last year in the West. So then who do you think is the team to beat in the West? Chicago is not going to be it... then who will it be? Vancouver and San Jose seem to be the choices...

What if he is the 6th guy though... With Ericcson and Kindl being the fifth and Janik being the 8th, would his health scare you off then? Perfect time to offer him a one year go for broke cup run deal! lol. All of these points are fully true, and as people said he would most likely want way too much money. I still would like him on my team.

Yeah, I would gladly give Maltby a two-way deal. I find it odd that we might do to Maltby what Dallas did to Modano, in order to get Modano... Yeah Matls and Mike are two different animals, but he was a big part of alot of great squads for us. He has the right to come and compete for a job IMO. This is a big mistake for him, I think he would have gotten Osgood's job this year if he came back. Babs straight up hates Chris, I bet he would have gone through waivers and would have been Thomas' backup in GR or retired.

I think he is due more money, but I would love to have him and his super long stick in Detroit. He got a bad rap for the defense but lead the blueline in shots blocked and intercepted passes. He would be a better version of Lilja for sure. I put him at on a short list of players I would like to see brought in. I just still don't see how. We apparently have four roster spots and have given out 4 contract offers to RFA's as well as possibly kicking the tires on Lilja, Maltby, lebda, and Modano. Mitchell would be my first choice out of all of those guys (not including the RFAs) Unless he moves Kaberle, they only have 3.4 million in cap space and have to round out their team. He has a full blue line, so Mitchell would fill the same roll for them as he would for us, depth guy. Burke wants a top tier center. My wild guess would be him making an epic trade for Marleau because I can't see San Jose realistically paying him 5 million a season with all the other guys they have on the team. Maybe Kabrele will be a Shark?

I would have to imagine that they are on that bubble now. Though I could see his cap already done, because that four year deal combined with four years left on Malone makes 10 million tied up in Martin and Ryan alone. Stamkos is due a raise next year, and even though they clear a million of cap on buyouts and another in 2011, it just seems as if a team that doesn't like to spend alot maybe up against their self imposed cap number. He definately learned how to deal with goaltenders from Holland. His two goalies cost less than Huet does by himself! Seriously Dan will make that team at least 5 wins better.

I would be surprised if that was all it took for Souray, even with his well known faults, he fits the mold of a top paring defenseman. I would expect him to improve the blues over Brewer.

I just like the sense of community on days like these. It helps when there are a ton of people hungry for information on what is happening. For the record, I am well aware of the rift between those too. I like him as a player, I would like to have him on the team. Not too different than most of the threads on here. People like certain guys and would like to see them on the team. We wouldn't have much to talk about if we all just said hey that isn't going to happen and were done talking about it. I like everyone on our team, I like hearing what happens. Love to talk about it. BTW on the record, thought when we traded for him that it was a good move. Just don't like how his reputation gets him calls that he doesn't deserve and the turnovers. I can honestly say at these prices, I am not at all upset we did not sign anyone today. Not one of these players was someone I really would have wanted/thought would help the team/was at the right price. Holland does well at what he does. I am intrested to see what he does for a number 6-7 defenseman this year...

I didn't say hey I wonder if they will sign Prospal. I said I would rather have him. A statement of opinion. Matter closed. He signed for less than Bertuzzi did when we signed Bert last time, had better numbers across the board. Just saying.
