If you've never been to a carolina hurricanes playoffs game, don't say something that naive. i live in Raleigh. The STATE of north carolina, might care jack all about the canes, but i assure you the city of Raleigh cares a great deal.

lucky for me, this is the one time in my life when living in north carolina has been good for hockey. I get to watch it on FSN

well i'll be in the minority here,..lets go canes! i'm from Raleigh and would love to see some playoff games.

baring a dan cleary like recovery, his career is over.

There is no way, i mean no way, the league gives the hart to Malkin before it can give it to crosby.

here's my vote for best save i've ever seen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Muol4-oEFnc...feature=related As a goalie myself the amount of concentration required to do what cam ward does here against the oilers is amazing. His body is already moving one way and he's thinking about the save he's about to make, and in an 8th of a second he changes his save, his body postioning and puts his glove in the air to pluck out a goal. The Bulin one is breathtaking, but sheer luck. Now i'm not taking anything away from it, but i've seen that save several times with several different goalie,..including our own Chris Osgood as eva points out below me. That one however, was by far the prettiest save i've ever seen. Congrats to Bulin, he's had a tough year. Actually, to go with my example, here's cam ward doing basically the same save with his blocker instead of his glove.

lets not forget the sharks winning the pacific puts the ducks in a heckofa first round match up against the Stars. A team i think could surprise them.

the year Federov was drafted 89, the wings were not a dominate force, in fact they didn't get that way until after bure went to the finals in 94. You'll recall we got swept by the sharks that year and several other painful playoff losses before that. Also, Bure may have been great to watch, that doesn't make him great by default.
-
i think it's a given,..i saw that but i didn't even feel like brining it up. Lids is one of the top 10 players at his position all time,...maybe top 5 depending on what happens for the rest of his career.

cause right now he is a baby. He still does stupid things from time to time and doesn't always act like the leader he should. But he's young and beginning to show traits all great leaders have. Lets not forget before the 97 cup, people where questioning steve's leadership ability.

Well if you don't insult my hockey intellgence by saying something so sweeping and general as "offense is all you need" then i won't insult your's anymore by reminding you that you don't.

True, but in the same token of you can't discard Sergi's immense defensive skills that compliment his incredible offensive talents. Bure didn't play for a team anywhere close to the caps (at least later one, when they went to the 94 finals) and while he was probably the best pure goal scorer the NHL has ever seen, I think Sergi is the better player. Not only that, but the league as a whole seems to agree with me given Sergi's hard wear and Bure's lack there of (minus his three rocket richards). Now i'm not saying that hardwear makes the player, but the Hart trophy is a different matter. Sergi has one. Not only that but his Pearson award,....given by the players themselves speaks volumes too. Furthermore, Federov in his prime was a constant 30 goal scorer and his highest goals for total is 56 in 94. That same year, Bure scored his highest total for goals (tying the previous year) of 60. Bure hit 50 and above many more times than sergi who never did it again but then sergi has to play defense to go along with his 30 goals a season. So it's not like Federov is like comparing apples to oranges, both could score and score very well. It's not like one was a Defensive stalward and one was a great goal scorer. One was a great goal scorer and the other one was BOTH.

No, No it's not. There's a reason Bure's Nucks never won a cup. There's also a reason we never won a cup before Scotty Bowman brought a more defensive style to Detroit. Steve Yzerman was one of the best offensive Talents of the 80's i could show you video's of some highlight goals from him too. He didn't become the legend that he is however, until he also became one of the best two way players of the 90's and 2000's.

people have this really weird habit of seeing a player go a little past there prime and that instantly negates they're greatness. If Federov retires in 2003 instead of going to the ducks,...we're not having this argument, we're talking about his number in the rafters at the joe. Federov in his prime was the most complete player in the world, hence the hart trophy and numerous other awards. Just because he's a shell of his former self doesn't mean in 1994 he wasn't the best player in the NHL (who did he beat out for that hart? oh yeah, bure) i mean did you guys never see bure play in Florida?

man, can't wait to see the highlights on this one.

i play goalie and i agree with the post above talking about the width of goalie pads. It's not that the chest protector needs to be shrunk, it's that the pad itself that needs to come in from the sides. Also as a goalie,..your argument about legs pads doesn't add up. I've taken 100+ mph shots to my legs and felt nothing, they can easily be taken off a few inches left to right with no effect

okay,...i'll go there. If we're going to play "origins" i think the Canadians invented the modern variation of the game. But Field hockey goes back thousands of years. It's history is untraceable in the American Indian culture it's most known for, but there's clear descriptions of it being played in ancient egypt 5,000 years ago. Similarly games using curved sticks to hit an object have been played in Europe since the middle ages, in fact the word "hockey" is recorded in the Galway Statutes of 1527. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...tiek_hockey.JPG Here's that pick of ancient field hockey

Trevor Kidd did something very similar to this in the late 90s with the carolina hurricanes,...means nothing until he plays an entire season of good hockey.

you'll care when it happens to us,........and it will.

somethings got to give, either the nhl goes to a coaches challenge or this is going to get ugly. I would say something like,..maybe if a Cup is decided by a blow call then they'll change but that's already happened. How much more NHL?
