you are correct sir, as one has scored 20 goals for several seasons now and one has not.
-
dang if they colorado, then forskin,..suddenly i want no part of them in the first round
-
gonchar and his 6 million plus salary gets waived way before malkin gets traded.

1961, yeah i went there holler back youngin'.

i hate fighting with my girlfriend,.............i imagine it's how the avs have felt playing us this season. No matter what you do, chances are good you're not going to win and you're definatly not going to score.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp__vGs3fa8 Now i know what you're thinking,...okay that's pretty lame but work with me here I've had a lot of debates with my friends recently about why the NHL isn't popular in the sports media blah blah blah. But i turned this on last night and even though i HATE the NBA and basketball as a sport period, this entertained me. I found the character and atmosphere of this event, interesting and fun. Compare this, to that debacle of an event at the all star game where half the players, including the best stick handler in the world, had no idea what was going on (if you have to ask, go cheer for the blues). It just goes to show you how terrible the NHL is run, how awfully our product of hockey is put on. Could you imagine the back lash if during the all star game AO pulls off his caps Jersey and reveals a super man crest? It just seems like the league won't let the players be players. I'm having difficulty conveying my point, and i hope someone out there gets what i'm saying,.... but i guess it boils down to, the NHL is lacking characters. Entertaing and interesting Characters. Not Terrel Owens, or Shawn Avery type guys, i mean, just guys who make memories. Who stand out Where is this in todays NHL How about this?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdAxMEw59-c&NR=1 This? Or how about a few years back in 02, when Chelly got the star of the game against the nucks and hammed it up to the crowd as they booed him. We don't have characters in our game anymore, we don't have guys with personality at all, they're either retired or about to be.
-
Not my point at all and as someone who's older than chelly don't you miss some of the older character's? It has nothing to do with being a cocky snot. It's about raising the bar and getting people outside of people like us who've watched this sport for 15+ years to see things like a great game between PHX and LA. Sometimes the condescending tone on this board kills me. Basketball is not my sport, Hockey is my sport and i've been extremely faithful to it since i was very very young. No i don't want Dats to put on a super man cape, but i do want the NHL to allow their players to have a little personality without fear of a 25K fine. Remember those old ESPN commericals? Where's that?
-
that's exactly my point, that shootout challenge thingy was a joke. The players who we've seen do incredible things with the puck had no idea what to do, making AO step up and try something at least. It was just poorly run talent wise, just like the league as a whole.

FYI Sergi Federov is the all time Playoff Goal Score Leader for the Red wings. Why do i bring this up? Because that was the past and this is the present. Sammy was 5th in scoring for us, good for him. If he's 20th in scoring for us this year, he's just a worthless in the playoffs as he was in the regular season.

um, call me crazy but arn't ufa's normally traded? Sundin, Hossa, heck even Feds arn't they all trade bait because they're on the last year of their contracts as well?
-
I will be very tempted to boycott the stanley cup playoffs (i won't do it mind you, i love my wings to much) if in this "Cap era" that we lost an entire season of hockey for,.. the ducks can have a top 4 D of Neidaweiner-Pronger Schinder-Blake. Seriously, if they land blake for like huskins and some mid level prospect i'm going to vomit.
-
Sheesh, Mostly ESPN doesn't know their head from a whole in the ground but who knows. Most of the media outlets i frequent said that chance of Jagr being traded was slim. that said, i would be livid if after getting selanne to sign the contract they did, the ducks had the cap to absorb Jagr as well. If he's traded to the west things could get intresting. In my mind, i don't think holland is that stupid. Jagr wouldn't do well at all, we have very little Czechs on this team and the only linemate of his that could be his countryman would be hudler. I'm not saying euro's need their own countrymen to succeed but there is a reason we have half the swedish olympic team on our roster.

another awful awful trade for jim ruthford. The Jack Johnson deal was bad enough, tim gleason has sucked big time since coming to carolina. Cory Stillman in my mind was the heart and soul of this hockey club (him and brindamour) when Cory went down last season Carolina just wasn't the same. He's been a point per game player this year, but because Carolina doesn't have a good PP guy suddenly they throw the team at Joe FReaking Corvo? Don't get it,..really don't. Especially not considering Mike Commadore is one of the most popular canes players among the fans. In a city that's been heavily critized with the way the people interact with the hockey team, it doesn't strike me as good business to trade two very popular players. Although the general idea around Raleigh is that Commadore is just a rental. Stillman however, looks to be avaliable to the highest bidder next season, i would absoutly crap my pants if we got a hold of him in the offseason. Another reason this deal just flabbergast me is the fact that Carolina already has like 3 Eaves on the roster,...young, fast, skill players who have a lot of hype but haven't produced due to injures. Why not trade one of them? Andrew Ladd, 4th pick in the 04 draft,...hasn't done much of anything, why a playoff dynmo for a kid who has really not lived up to potential?

The NHL wants to know why hockey is a '2nd-tier sport'
theman19 replied to NHLrules?'s topic in General
spot on. I remember watching that finals series against the ducks and vomiting after the horribly double standard officiating. A goal like this was waived off before it even goes in the net, but Hasek was pushed in the net (with the puck very much underneath him) and it's a goal. Or my personal favorite, the refs call every hook, every interference they can find from oct. to the all star break. Then the playoffs hit and the whistles go away. That is unless you're the lady byng winner, they'll call you for a phantom holding call in overtime of a pivital game for the western conference championship. The NHL desperatly needs some sense of standard. -
agreed, after being in a battle with the sucks for two hours and finally getting that all important momentum changing goal, some prick with zebra stripes 20 feet away says i did something wrong. My stick would have gone up his a@#
-
mind blowing,.....that was the biggest load of crap i've ever seen in a hockey game. That's twice the refs have literally given the ducks the game in the final seconds. The phantom call on Dats in last years playoffs, crap. The no goal also complete crap. Funny,..same ref for both games, imagine that. i completely agree there needs to be a coaches challenge like in the nfl. Kudos to the fans at the joe for chanting Bullsh#$ for 30 seconds, hope gary bettman heard it.

in the long term i don't think we will. The more Gm's that get burned like Atlanta and Nashville did last season the less likley you are to see a team give up their future for a playoff rental that isn't goign to help them. For every Mark Recchi story like in Carolina in 06, there's a Forsberg with the predators last year, Tkchunky with the thrashers,..etc. etc.
-
Spectors hockey is reporting that it wasn't marleau but matt carle and a pick for redding. If i was sens fans i'd be super pissed.
-
you make some intresting points on here sometimes but i'm totally with you. I hate playoff rentals, i don't really hate them when they're playing for my team,...but it's so awkward when they leave the next season. No one on here likes the canes, but it's an example i can give since i never really like bert to begin with. When Carolina went out and got Mark Recchi in 06, i was super excited. Recchi was always one my favorite players to watch play. Well one Stanley cup later he signed with pittsburg and never looked back. Meanwhile, i look at my poster from that 2006 stanley cup team and there he is, him and doug weight,..proudly displayed as Carolina players. I don't know if any of that makes since but i would so much rather get a guy in a trade (like shanny) who came in, helped up win a cup,..then stuck around to help us win more. I just get attached to certain players and i hate seeing them leave.

Man,...seeing steve score that break-away goal put chills on my spine. At first i was like, is that matby breaking out? Then i saw the calm stride, the simple, but extremely effective move, and then the 19 and the C. I miss that man,....a lot.
-
jeez are you kidding me, if sergi comes back the joe would erupt.
-
you lucky butt Goblin!
-
i'd rather have scott,...don't know if that's his brother or not. But the winger from carolina CAN fight, and CAN score.
-
thank you toby91, that was my point. in 1998 Bondra scored 52 goals, So did Selanne just because Bondra scored a high % of his teams goals doesn't make him any better than selanne.
