2011 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 28th, 3:00 PM ET

in my opinion it'd be almost silly not to claim conklin if we could afford him. Obviously the brass saw a need for a goalie or there would be no nabby contract. So here's a guy that's played well for us in the past and he's free if we can afford the cap hit. It's a no brainer where i'm sitting. -
It's completely stupid. The players are the ones suffering for this, the owners and gm's who signed the stupid ass contract in the first place are the ones who should suffer. I'm so tired of seeing guys I know could help other teams have their careers end because gm's over pay. Yeah I know someone's going to come in here and say something silly like "it's the players own fault" but honestly if you know you're worth a million and a Gm offers three would YOU turn it down?
-
also on waivers are Craig Rivet (the sabers captain,..WTF) Marek Svatos (dick move by the preds imo for claiming a guy then rewaiving him) and on re-entry is Ales Kotalik.
-
In the playoffs he always brings it. It's not a red wings playoff game unless homer gets a big goal waived off for a good goal from any other forward in the league
-
Yes I'm aware of that, i'm also aware that adding a guy at the deadline isn't horrible either. Brad Stuart has worked out pretty well for us. Bertuzzi didn't impress to much when we picked him up, but it sowed the seeds for the player he is now. I'm not a fan of "stand pat" especially when our rivals are certainly not. Am I advocating that we go crazy and spend our young talent for a band-aid? No, I am however advocating that we got a solid 6th-7th D man and I certainly wouldn't be apposed to adding a vet backup either regardless of Ozzie's health.
-
So basically the same thing he does every year "our injuries (FA signings) will be our trade deadline this year."
-
The carolina hurricanes, provided the don't sell half their team at the deadline. Every game these teams have played have been extremely tight. If Ward shuts the door then they'll have trouble matching him save for save using who they've got in net.
-
you just made my life dude. Two things I love,..Darren Helm breakaway goal and Captain Picard. Add them together is almost more awesome than I can handle.
-
If messier's name gets thrown around for the whole two teams two cups thing, Lids gets a nod for being the ONLY european captain to ever win the cup. Just sayin'
-
Ah Frankie,..good memories. He managed to capture lighting in a bottle once for the 06 season and then dropped off the face of the earth, it was tough to watch.

Canucks Dman Andrew Alberts out indefinitely

Okay, I'll play. You've show evidence that the canuck's 1st line is one of the best in hockey. Do tell me what happens when that first line gets shut down? Oh wait I remember,...the 2008 stanley cup finals. Now before you're a smart ass and say that in 09 they beat us, you would be correct. But you'd also be ignoring that our team wasn't 100% and the penguins had scoring depth from guys like Talbot and Kennedy. Who else besides the twins and Kesler is going to score those hard goals when your top line is being shadowed by the other teams top forwards? Jeff Tambolini? Don't make me laugh. I'd worry about how y'all are going to replace that decimated D corps for the "cup run" before you go sprouting off at the mouth about how you're the chosen ones. It is entirely probable that you guys will win the cup. It's also just as probable for any other team out there to do the same thing if they make the playoffs. My problem is suddenly your fans are bragging about a cup that's "in the bag" when you've got some serious issues mentally from your goalie the past two playoffs and a team that has shown only one sustained line of offensive pressure. -
The islanders are a team he actually makes sense playing for. Grabner is lighting it up for them by basically chillin' at the blue line and waiting for a stretch pass so he can use his speed for a breakaway. Meanwhile guys like Skinner and Couter are helping their respective teams in all aspects and are now getting put on the calder back burner by the media. If you play for a suckie team who cares about D?
-
I think the problem is fans have short memories. When we had everyone healthy on this team at the beginning of this season,..including modano,..this team was unbeatable. When we get everyone back,..we'll still be unbeatable. Now i'm the one who typed all that up and all,..but even I know the rebuttal to this has merit, When we won the cup in 08 we brought in Stuart who was exactly what we needed then. It stands to reason something similar wouldn't suck either.

I'm not post fapping anything or trying to do anything else other than to say, it's one thing to criticize nashville for not knowing about hockey but doing it by using references to an entire block people (some of them being wings fans,...example...."southern wings fan has more posts than any of us combined") is a little silly.
-
That was just a touch unnecessary don't ya think? Anyways,...If Ozzie is done for the year we need a better back up,..stupid islanders.
-
I actually got into an argument a few years back with a blues fan about how that calder was totally deserved as Jackman was better at that time. Maybe, Maybe not, but hindsight being what it is, it's a joke.

a long article with lots of nuggets from around the league. Here's one that caught my eye though: "Cory Emmerton scored his first NHL goal on Saturday. When the Red Wings were acquiring Todd Bertuzzi from Florida, the Panthers initially asked for Emmerton. But Detroit wanted to keep him, so Shawn Matthias went instead." http://www.cbc.ca/sports/blogs/elliottefriedman/2011/01/the-nabokov-mess-and-30-thoughts.html Interesting stuff, does anyone give them emmerton instead?

07, 06 was our lackluster preformance that handed the canes the oilers as their stanley cup match up.
-
okay, we've reached critical mass with this guardians thing Stan Lee plagiarized himself with the flordia panthers it's the black panther with different colors.
-
oh wow, no s***e,..Just saw the pittsboro next to your name, I'm in north Raleigh myself.
-
Living in Carolina I watch Gleason all the time. I have wet dreams about him playing for the winged wheel, he's tough as a two dollar steak and consistently puts his body on the line to block a shot or to stick up for teammates. Uber-respect for him
-
well for what it's worth (and that's not much) The islander fans (all 3 of them) on HF boards are lighting him up, saying they hope he never plays again.
-
It's not fair, It wasn't fair when the blues (A team I can't stand) lost two players to waivers back to back. It made even less sense given that he was a free agent. Like if he was contracted to a euro team I'd get that, but he played not even half a season, then had his contract terminated.
-
bottom line, Ken Holland is to smart to sign a guy just to see another team claim him. This is either greasing the wheels for a trade later on, or he plays for the islanders for a while and at the deadline gets waived back to Detroit.
