We were supposed to be terrible after the lockout, we wern't We were supposed to get tossed aside by Calgary and SJ, We didn't We came within scratching distance of beating the ducks, everyone said they'd thump us Same song, different year, but a bit more bright at least this time around. Why is it, that everyone seems to ignore that the Hurricanes won the stanley cup in 06 without so much as a shadow of an enforcer? (boulrice didn't play in the playoffs) It's like the NHL erased that from memory, and when they talk about stanley cup teams they skip that year. Well it happened, a Defensivly sound, Offensivly explosive, forward corps, with a WEAK defense won it all. They won it, over a more aggressive, more confrontational team to boot. Now, you can say they did it for this reason (Rollie getting injured certainly didn't hurt) or that one,(don't forget cole was injured too until game 6) but, point blank A team without an enforcer did in fact win the cup in 2006 and could win it in 2008.

Frankly i can't recall but one prospect we've ever given up in a trade since 96 that has amounted to much. Sean Avery being the only one, and he has his supporters, but at the time wasn't going to do much for the club.

let me clear the air in this one. As someone who lives in North Carolina i can tell you Jack Johnson basically pulled an Eric Lindros but he did it alot smoother. He made it very clear to Carolina that he was never going to play for there team. To the media however he was like "oh i'm going to finish school blah blah, i won't play for four years,..blah blah" The whole time he's telling Carolina managment i'm not playing for your team, as he rejects contract after contract by Carolina. His Dad also told the Carolina media that no matter where he plays he's going to be the highest paid player. So, after saying he's going to finish school for two years,...he's traded and immediately signs a contract. Now i'm not saying he's evil, or anything else, it was probably a good business move on his part and Yes Carolina got totally hosed on this trade. But, it wasn't a case of Carolina just being dumb for dumb sake,...Johnson orchistrated this whole thing behind the scenes.

What are you talking about? A hockey fight is more than just about how many punches a guy takes to his head. Downey got rocked,..a bunch,..but at the end of the fight he still thrown roy to the ground and ends the fight. Did he "win" the fight in the sense that he's going to run around doing the tie domi belt hand signal? No,.....but he didn't die either, and as i said at the end of the fight after taking all that abuse he manhandles roy to the ice, no small feet.

how did downey win that one,....wow,..he got his butt kicked for a good 15 seconds and still managed to throw roy to the ice. Nice job.

this is why i'm scared to death of ESPN getting the NHL again. While i agree it will be the best thing for the sport as whatever ESPN hypes, sells. I'm scared of the NHL becoming "The Sidney Crosby Penguins are the best team ever!1!!!"

it'll be extremely easy to see if they're still rabid after they tank. This team almost went bankrupt after going to the stanley cup finals in 99. a two season revival doesn't impress me. riddle me this,...if we're having an outdoor game to pay tribute to the history of our great sport why is it Pittsburg and Buffalo? I know alot of people complain that original six teams get to much. But why an outdoor game between these two teams? I loved the heritage classic, i thought it was amazing. Here i was getting to see people play i'd have never gotten a chance to see play other wise. Could you imagine a Red wings Vs. Leafs/Blackhawks classic? I'd fly up there just to see steve yzerman play just one more time.

lilja showed much improvement towards the end of the season. It's a shame that after all that hard work, everyones going to remember him gift wrapping a series altering goal to one of the best snipers in NHL history. I'm rooting for the guy, but i think they're better options out there.

Jeff Oneil is a guy i've always rooted for and i'm kinda surprised he's not a guy we're intrested in. Granted he's got a walk in closet full of skeletons and that fear of flying thing would suck if he was a wing. Still he's big, will protect his team mates, has a wicked shot, and when he's playing his best hockey is a goal scorer. hope he does very well in ottawa.
