most people would have said the same thing about daniel cleary before he signed here. Granted he always had the tools,...point is you never know who's going to be a productive player and who's not.

this isn't a sergi federov thread, but you know what? i had to respond to this. You are aware that federov still holds records on the wings for playoff scoring? If you don't think he'd be a great addition if it didn't cost us a terrible amount you havn't been a red wings fan for long. I don't care if he's played terrible since leaving our team, he's bored. Sergi's a rock star and always has been. He wants to be the man so badly, he can't do it in columbus. Not with that support. But, if he realizes that comming back to Detroit allows him the opportunity to add to his legend you're going to see what a focused, MOTIVATED sergi federov can do.

sheesh,...can fillpula step up and be effective so i never have to read a lang is lazy and sucks thread?

Balsillie group accuses Bettman of forcing Preds to break off talks
theman19 replied to edicius's topic in General
Certain people think that blaming the NHL's problems on Gary Bettman is a silly thing to do. It's the owners who are greedy that's ruining the game, Bettmans just a puppet. etc. etc. It's a funny thing to me, because before the lockout people were saying it was the players. Saying the scope and depth of the crap the NHL has become is Gary's fault, paints you as a conspirator, looking for a "roswell" in the NHL. I hope this opens some peoples eyes. I really truly hope this blows up huge in Gary's face. I hope this forever stains him and at best lays the framework for his departure. It won't, but a guy can dream. Now i'm sure someone's going to come on here and tell me, i should blame bill wirtz or something. You're entitled to your opinion. The owners are not Bettmans boss, Bettman doesn't have a boss, at least not one that will do anything about what he does. That's the problem. Absoutle power corrupts absolutely. -
yatze! Vertical striping looks horrible on a fashion jersey. Especially that one, where the piss does that yellow striping come from? it's just moves up out of the undercut of the jersey like a modern art masterpiece. Have you seen the hurricanes one? same deal. Random stripes for stripes sake. They don't look like hockey jersey's anymore.

Elkund says these players are on the Detroit radar.

peter forsberg is an elite player, even still. If he's even 85% healthy in the playoffs he's our third best forward (maybe second depending if either one of the twins is having a bad series) Anyone who wouldn't want him on our team if he's healthy and cheap for a player of his caliber, is really ignorant. Most of our super stars are swedish, Forsberg is a national hero in sweden, So is lidstrom, Z and Holmstrom. The chemistry of a Zetterberg-forsberg-holmtrom-lidstrom-kronwall (if healthy) would be unbelievable. Russian Five my tail, 1997 was along time ago. We get forsberg and the swedish 5 runs rough shot over everyone. -
and if we have the same white piping on our beloved winged wheel these jokers have on their's,....we just might come and smoke you.
-
i'll reseve my opinion for when i see the front. I was always a big fan of the diagonal Pittsburgh across there 93 style jersey. I was never a big fan of the cartoon penguin of death they got on there now.
-
except for that yellow piping. Makes them look like their wearing a shoulder harness.
-
i like the away ones, but to me the predator on the front of the home jersey is just to large. Plus i'm not a huge fan of that blue with that jersey.
-
plus, that vanek signing didn't help buffalo with the money problems they're going ot have when some of those other young guys on there roster come of age.
-
russian 5 my butt,...if he can play 90% of what he was, all we'll need next year is the russian two.

great, don't let the door hit you on the way out squirt. Go beat your chest and do your king of the internet jungle act elsewhere.

...sure 1980 was a cinderella story, and yeah, it was America's Team. But that was the past, just like everyone on here ******* about others living in the 90's with the Wings, we cannot, as Olympic fans, live in 1980 forever... That's a ridiculous thing to say. Just like the 72 summit series to Canadians, the 1980 Olympic team transcends the sport entirely. It's not about the game, it never was. It was about a group of college kids going out and beating the greatest team to ever lace up the skates. Remember this is a team that destroyed an NHL team with a hall of fame roster. It's a metaphor for everything that is right in sports. To dramatic? tough, it's true. I love my team alot, but lets face it. In a hundered years no one will talk about our 1998 cup win, (maybe the 97 one). In 50 years provided there is still ice hockey, this will still be relevant.

PS- Southern Wings fan, I have forgotten more about this team and hockey in general then you will ever know so pipe down smallfry and go back to the "Why wont Babs play Hudler more" threads. go away, Southern wings fan is the longest posting member still active on this board. If you're so fond of hf boards go post there.

and will you please stay away from The real red wings forum, you're making us look bad. Norton was a goon, a role player is someone who can check, play Defense (a novel idea considering he's a Defensemen) score, what ever the situations requires. Brad Norton was the absolute Definition of the word "one dimensional". All he could do was fight for this team. When he did that he lost, badly. So he fought better fighters, stick to your weight class then. No one on this forum wants a guy who can'd do a darn thing but fight, take away playing time from a promising young player, just to watch him get his butt handed to him over and over again. Now i'm sure you'll get all bent out of shape and repost to this. Beat your chest in some 3rd grade fashion, all the while chanting "i'm the smartest!". But seriously you lost all credibility when you posted something like that about a player who's not going to make a bit of difference on a team loaded with guys who do his job, a lot better.

i completely agree with that, if there's a home for JR is Chicago.

Eklund says Wings are interested in Josef Melichar
theman19 replied to SwedeLundin77's topic in General
we'd have said the same thing a couple years ago when lilja was signed as a relatively unknown off florida. If we sign him i've got no qualms with it. Worst he does is suck and go back to minor league hockey. -
Eklund says Wings are interested in Josef Melichar
theman19 replied to SwedeLundin77's topic in General
this is one of the only things that Eklund has said about our team that makes sense. Melichar doesn't do anything terribly well but he also doesn't suck as a purly Defensive D man. If we sign him for cheap it's a good signing. -
it helps them now, Cullen was a vital part of there cup run in 06, they struggled hard to fill his third line center spot. AS far as the future, hutchinson was a good young Defensive prospect for them. Since they have an ancient D and not alot of young D in the pipes. I don't quite understand this.

yet another GR signing it looks like, Tsn has him listed with us as well. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?i...e=nhl-red_wings i guess we're going to have a killer GR team this year.
-
true, but if it's a choice between don't make 450,000 and make it, i'm pretty sure he takes it. Besides i bet we're the only team in the league who'd even do that.
-
he hasn't been the same since his brother died as well. Honestly i think he's done. He requested a trade to Toronto to be near family and to play infront fo home town fans. That didn't help the guy, i don't know what would.
-
why not sign him to play in GR? it's not like he couldn't get called up and down and not clear waivers.
