anyone who says carolina should be contracted has never been to Raleigh to see them play. The state of North Carolina does in fact not care a bit about the hurricanes, but why does that matter? Is someone from a city 4 hours away going to come see the canes? Do people from the upper island of michigan routinly come to see the red wings? The people of Raleigh are in love with the canes. Granted it's all roses now, they've had a bad season and we'll have to see what they do from here but as someone who lives in Raleigh i can tell you the fanbase is absolutely rabid about their team.

not to add fuel to this fire,...but reports out of columbus is that one of the things the new GM could have to do is buy out federov's contract. If that happens,...i'm afraid there's no way he doesn't come running back here.

Kris draper leftover, larry murphy leftover, Dan cleary leftover, samuelson leftover, are we sensing a trend here? most of our team is made up of guys that other teams thought couldn't make it. Granted yashin has had more chances than alot of players but looking down our roster its not like we've never done it before.

i can say with utmost confidence that 99% of the people on this board would vomit if we signed him. I however am not one of them. If he can be had for under a million it wouldn't be a bad move. Granted he would be our highest profile "cast-off" but we've done this kinda thing with Kris Draper. larry muprhy, dan cleary, samuelson, etc. etc. We seem to breed winners who other teams give away

backstrom is far from proven, he played one good year. So did jim carey in 96'. will see if this bites them in the butt.

I really should have put drafting a goalie in the first round would be silly. I'm very aware of the above thanks. What i was responding to there was the fact that some people would like it if Dom retired, we draft another goalie in the first round, start ozzie, bring up howard (he's not ready) and then put our newly drafted goalie in the ahl. This is why we have free agency, it would be prospect sucide to bring jimmy up now, and shove kid right out of college directly into a starters role in the ahl.
