    Wings Negotiating w/ Nabokov

Unfortunately thanks to our goofy CBA he'll have to pass through waivers and will never make it to Detroit if he gets signed. I can see a few teams claiming him because they need goal tending help, and I can see more than a few claiming him so we don't win the cup.

    "The Red Wing"

as has been said, Stan Lee created basically the entire universe. But it was the people after him who expanded on these characters and made them make sense. He's been riding the coattails of his creations for years and now comes across as a incoherent old codger. If the nhl wanted this done right (and it never needed to be done at all,...) they should have got a guy like geoff johns (who wouldn't touch this with a ten foot poll)

After several games of watching the young'ens

As a part time carolina hurricanes fan, you want absolutely no part of Joni Pitkanen.

Stuart out 6-8 weeks with broken jaw

okay, i'll ask, who replaces him on the backend? Obviously salei gets more minutes,...Janik? Kindl?

    Florida screwed by officials

the fact that there's no a replay/challenge system like the nfl's in the nhl is a total joke. The only way the league will ever move to action is when this costs a team a cup,......oh wait,....it did,...more than ten years ago.

THN's Ross McLean "Scouting Blog" - Teemu Pulkkinen

Between the Pulkkinen and Jamrock the future's looking damn bright for us. One thing that's always puzzled me...how come our superstars are 4th and 5th round picks but guys drafted in the first round for us rarely make the same impact? I guess drafting a Canadian or American in the 1st round is a safe bet and some guy no one's heard of on this side of the atlantic with a 4th is just what we do.

    Espn us pretty slighted

TSN or LGW for my hockey info. Havn't looked at ESPN for hockey news since high school. That was ten years ago folks.

    WJC Bronze Medal Game

I'm an American but i'd love to see Ironhook take it to the next level here and wake a few people up. Like Mindfly said, If it ain't gold, I don't care. The history of U.S hockey is littered with Bronze and Silver medals.

Commodore requests trade out of Columbus

A cautionary tale for guys who do one thing really well. Commadore was a fan favorite in Carolina. Back when he played here it wasn't uncommon to see guys running around the RBC center in bathrobes and red wigs. He parlayed that rep into a very nice payday from the BJ's and now seems unhappy with his situation. Didn't foote have problems with playing in CBJ as well?

    Heritage game Pens vs. Caps

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=344954 Apologies if this has already been posted. So as usual there is an alumni game between ex-pens and ex-caps. The press release lists some of the guys suiting up for the pens and i'm like,...WTF? Mario I expected, Francis i'm a little miffed about living in Raleigh, but can't complain as he won two cups there,... But Trottier and Coffey? Quick, think Brian Trottier,..what uniform is he wearing,...I mean these days who'd want to be associated with the islanders but sheesh. Coffey's already played a hertiage game as an oiler hasn't he? Bill Guerin is listed as one of the ex-pens playing as well. I mean sure they all played for the pens and all won cups with the pens but Washington is screwed. Seriously though, who plays for the caps? Bondra is already coming, I expect Kolzig to play goal. Oates, joe juneau? Who else? Can't imagine steven's playing in anything but a devils sweater

    Subban's huge hit

someone's going to kill this kid. If you have a rep for being cocky and do this other teams scum buckets take notice. Course i've said that for years about avery and to my knowledge no one has given him the business. Course p.k. plays on the smallest team in the league

    Heritage game Pens vs. Caps

so the rosters were announced today,.....Jebus, I agree with puckdaddy, why play the game if you already know the outcome,..the pens have like five hall of famers on this mockery of a roster (Gary Roberts? Really Pittsburgh?), The caps have,...Peter Bondra,.. literally thats the only good player there (scott walker and sylvan cote do not count). http://penguins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=546556 If I was a caps fan i'd be sending good ol' Ted some emails, this is a mockery of what that game is supposed to be and looks like total penguins propaganda to whip the home team fans into a frenzy. Where the hell are oates, Kolzig, ECT?

    12/14 GDT

ask and you shall receive on that one. Powe goes in, gets bumped hits fleury obvious goalie interference. He could have not hit him if he wanted. However AFTER the whistle orpik comes over and destroys powe,....no call. This compounded by an awful no call after a pen cross checks timmonen to the ice minutes before the powe hit. Regardless pens lose 3-2.

Datsyuk, Crosby. On a level of their own.

They corralled him in 09 too, Malkin and talbot not so much.

Does he have a goofy LGW nickname yet? My vote goes to Dirty Harry if he doesn't. (Dirty Harry is Detective Harry Callahan)

are you related to him or something? sheesh,....

12/4 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Kings 3 (OT)

you don't know how the half of it. A few minutes ago they made a comment on how they're didn't used to be a thousand wings jerseys in la back in the day and then said at that time they where called the dead wings. Dude,...that comment hasn't had any weight since the early 90's,....the last time the kings had weight in the NHL btw.

Someone knocked out Mike Commadore in the same game, so it was a fun night for fight fans.

    Wings ALWAYS impose their will

living in raleigh, I watch lots of canes games. I've always kinda of thought of Carolina as Detroit's annoying kid brother (given the illich Karmanos connection) That said carolina plays the game about as opposite as you can get from Detroit. They carry the puck in the zone, normally on staals stick and score their goals off crashing the net over and over again until they get lucky. Guys like Staal, Skinner and some others normally deke a few guys out of their socks but they're very much a shoot shoot shoot kinda team, no cycle unless it's a pp. It's got a lot to do I think with how your D interacts with forwards. We've got some great puck moving D and they set up the plays for our own end. In carolina's case,......Pitkanen is about all they got for offensive D (although they've got some good rookies coming up) so they're forward corps is used to having to carry the play. We're the team everyone wants to duplicate, but very few can.

    Teams of the Decade?

I didn't count 01 as that wasn't in the 90's. From the penguins own wikipedia page:1997 saw the franchise's playoff success continue but with a five-game first round exit to their cross-state rivals the Philadelphia Flyers and Mario Lemieux's announced retirement. Because of Lemieux's achievements over the course of his career, the Hockey Hall of Fame waived its three-year waiting period and inducted him as an Honored Member in the same year he retired. The captaincy was passed to Jagr and for the next 4 seasons, Jagr won 4 consecutive Art Ross Trophies. However, the Penguins were unable to match Jagr's individual success with a sustained playoff appearance, with a first round exit in 1998 despite being the second seeded team in the East followed by a second round exit in 1999 this time from eighth seed. In 2000 the Penguins stunned the highly touted Washington Capitals 4–1 in the first round only to fall to Philadelphia 4–2 in the second round. Even in the midst of this success, the Penguins were in the midst of a battle for their survival. Their free-spending ways in the early 1990s came with a price; at one point they owed over $90 million to various creditors. Owners Howard Baldwin and Morris Belzberg (who bought the Penguins after their first Cup win) asked the players to defer their salaries to help pay the bills. When the deferred salaries finally came due, combined with other financial pressures, the Penguins were forced to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 1998. For much of the 1998-99 season, it looked like the Penguins would either move or fold. I would consider the team post 1996 to be much leaner then the dominate NHL franchise that they where at the start of 1990. Also, while making the playoffs is cool and all, no NHL team would "kill" to come that close to moving across the country. I stand by my point, but I see yours as well.
