Should we risk our future for an elite defenseman?
theman19 replied to dropkickshanahans's topic in General
You know people said the same thing a couple years ago about chara. Let lidstrom walk, throw money at chara. People also said in 05 we should have signed bulin to a stupid contract out of the lockout gate. Point being,...hindsight is 20/20 But,......the past can teach us the value of not thinking like were playing an EA hockey game. We won't replace lidstrom, even with doughty,...doughty doesn't have six norris trophys and four stanley cup rings (yet) When lids retires, this team will have to go in an entirely different direction. -
Get ready folks, hitting is about to exit our game
theman19 replied to jollymania's topic in General
not to add fuel to the fire, but TJ oshie was involved in another perfectly legal, clean hit that i'm sure is going to warrant a suspension. I don't have the video, but it's him hitting krejec (or however you spell that) from boston, he nails him as the bruin comes in for the puck. -
thanks butthole, leave it on the game yahoo.
-
guys it's not just the adthe feed, the yahoo sports feed is doing this weird dance around the channels

I'm not jealous in the least. I'm not bashing him for any other reason right now, then to say he picks his fights and runs around like he's superman cause he's gotten in a few fights. Here i'll use a guy who's not very well liked around here to prove my point. He's no Jerome Iginla. Iggy is a guy I respect, because even though he has fought with a visor and even though he's often a trapshooting prick, he'll answer the bell when it's rung and he won't pick the smallest guy on the ice either.
-
thank you so much for pointing that out Carman. This proves my point Crosby jumps the wrong guy in ballard and gets his ass kicked, but still finds time to do the ***** thing and hit the guy after he's got the take down.
-
as other have said Crosby loves to jump and fight guys who have about two fighting majors under their belts so he can feel like the second coming of Gordie Howe or something. I also hate that his team got it's ass kicked and yet his fight is all that was highlighted from that game. One magical day, he's going to run up against someone who knows how to fight and they're going to beat him within an inch of his life. My heart of hearts hopes it's someone like when he fought zidliky (although not zidliky obviously) Just some random european D man who isn't going to take an ass beating from the NHL's poster boy. Paging Jonathan Ericsson,.......

what have they done? The hypocrisy is reaching stupid levels So lets gets this straight, scott stevens has his number retired for doing this nearly every game and is "among the all time great D men in nhl history" if you ask most hockey pundits. But if he played now, under these rules,....he's what exactly?
-
youre a sarcastic ass you know that? I've seen and played many hockey games,..thanks. Blind side hits to the head while leading with the elbow don't normally happen to teams who can return in due kind.

The op asks the question does our enforcer suck,...not specifically our power play. I understand our power play is our enforcer, I also understand that our powerplay is the reason we won tonite. However, back to the question, is our power play doing the job an enforcer by all accounts should be doing? No,... no it's not. In the first four games i've seen elbows, slashes and more than a few dirty hits not one of the teams that did that is afraid of our power play. What i've always hated about the pp argument is that if a team is down three goals they don't care about losing, so they don't care that our power play is our enforcer (see ducks) it sickens me that the only guy i've seen stand up for other guys is our goalie and our D.

as both a rabid hockey and comic book fan, i've gotta say, this is going to get lame,..quick,..like prostars with Wayne Gretzky lame (remember that, with jordan and bo too?) Stan the man is a comics legend, but quite frankly i've wondered about his sanity the last ten years or so. First there was stripperlla with pam anderson And there's about a 100 awful B movies you can pick up at your local blockbuster made from his ideas. All of it is a very very far cry from the X-men, FF, Avengers ect. I think the important thing about Stan is, Yes he built the Marvel universe. But no he didn't do it single handedly. Jack Kirby had a lot to do with it as well.

As a life long hockey fan and native of Raleigh North Carolina, I've always been rather jaded at my fellow North Carolinians apparent lack of intrest in the only professional team in the area that's ever won a championship. Now the hurricanes themselves have a very loyal following but it's a very intense, very minor portion of the general population of North Carolina. To the point. I'm standing outside the RBC center waiting for a Michale Buble concernt (A. it's for my wife, B. the man put on a hell of a show) and low and behold out steps the entire prospects camp for the canes, they didn't use a hidden door or anything, they just walked past about a thousand people waiting in line. The only person in the whole place that knew who they were was me, who smiled and said "see you soon" to first round pick jeff skinner and the youngest of the staal brothers as they passed me. Only in carolina.
-
can't say I didn't mind it. My personal musical taste range from Cash and Elvis to Nas and Jay Z. Good music is Good music I guess. He got made fun of himself that Carolina won a cup before the nucks did.
-
I was waiting for someone to post that. To a degree you're correct. That's why I hate that they're called the "carolina" hurricanes, most if not all of north carolina could give a spit about the canes. Now the city of Raleigh is a differnt story, there are some very die hard fans in the city, which makes sense. It'd be like if the preds went by the tenn. predators instead of the nashville preds, no one in tenn. cares about the preds except the people of nashville. To wit, i've been to a game and misguided as they are, they love there team.
-
Taint me, But my wife is. That said after seeing him play he made me a fan. He put on like a ten min. comedy act in which he made fun of the RBC faithful at length. He's a huge canucks fan from what i've been told.

Here's what I don't understand. The blackhawks are STILL in cap trouble,..yet they sign this guy: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?code=&name=Scott, John&hubname=nhl to a one year, one million dollar deal?

Maple leafs fans were doing the same thing when Larry Murphy left town too,.... -
Revisionist history is always fun. If he did sign in 01, do we win the cup in 02? Who knows, regardless he made his bed and he'll have to sleep in it. I never hated the guy, found him kind of intresting, but he tied his horse to a team that never seemed to understand no goalie, no cup.

The problem with Kabanov isn't Kabanov, it's his father. The more I here about this, the more I think Eric Lindros.
-
To wit; I was the kid who cried in 94,94,96. Thank God for Steve Yzerman.
-
It's so funny to me. Last year other teams fans (including those same canucks fans) couldn't stop calling sour grapes on a rather large amount of fans saying that the NHL absolutely puts things in teams favors that would benefit the league if that team wins. Now that it's happening to a Canadian team, suddenly it's gaining steam. How long before it happens to enough teams where people start going wait,..this isn't right

2010 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - March 3rd, 3:00 PM ET

so,..chicago's biggest problem is goaltending but they trade arguably their Best D man? -
yeah well, that didn't happen now did it? I mean no offense but i hate these arguements. It doesn't matter if you adjust anything, speaking theoretically i can make numbers do whatever I want them too. Speaking in absoutles. I.E. Gretzky's 92 goals is likely never to be broken, is much harder to deal with. Fact, adjustments be damned, unless OVie scores 70+ one season he'll never break it end of argument.
