The sharks made an intresting move that i'm sure won't get a lot of press but is huge for their team. they gave carolina a 2nd today for Veteran Nic Wallin Now most wings fans are already rolling their eyes by associating him with former wings prospect Jesse Wallin. The thing with wallin is that here in carolina he's called "the secret weapon" as he has a profound knack for scoring game winning overtime goals in the post season. Biggest knock against the sharks, they never show up in the postseason, so they went out and got a guy who only shows up in the post season. It's not like this move puts them over the top or anything, they still have a playoff seive of a goalie, I just found it intresting that they're making subtle moves instead of the big flashy chemistry killing ones they normally make (see Guerin, Bill)

No. It amazes me how little people think of Gretzky's records and how unbelievably difficult they are to break. Gretzky had a 92 goal season and a 87 goal season. This coming from a guy most people think of as more playmaker than pure goal scorer. In order for AO to break Gretz records AO is going to have to shatter his best totals by 30 or so goals,...ain't happening,..not in this era.

alright,..an part time canes fan here is going to check in and take away the cool-aid. A. Jack Johnson is a locker room Cancer. He is an absolute prima donna who got run out of Raleigh for using his Dad as a mouth piece to bash the front office. Sound familiar? Cough Cough Lindros B. He has a very high physical ability. That said, he might be one of the dumber hockey players In the NHL. Seriously, his hockey smarts are like negative 3. He really does play like a rover, a position which became defunct 80+ years ago. C. A big knock against Johnson is his bone head turn overs and offensive instincts that rarely lead to points. Sound familiar again? Oh wait,...he's the defensive version of lenio.

Before someone comes in here and says that you're a conspiracy theorist and a part of the tin foil community, I can think in my head every instance you've just listed. Is it likley that it's all a considence. Probably. Isn't it also just as likley that it isn't?

As someone who lives in Raleigh i've always looked at the hurricanes as sort of a "aww isn't that cute,.." type of thing. Don't get me started on weither hockey belongs in the south,...(i was born and raised here, but have played my entire life) Still, when the team started in 97 i NEVER expected them to win the cup, so when this happened it was a moment in time i'll never forget. The image I and most Raleians associate that nite with isn't this one, it's the one about a second or two before, where Rod gets the cup and throws his head back. The shot is from behind him, all you see is Brindy looking up at the rafters with the cup in probably one of the coolest images i've seen in sports. Anyway, for the canes this is my vote.

can i get an update on how our boy tartar is doing?
-
He has been brutal for them this year, but hell,...who hasn't? Are they going to waive brindy next?

Living in Raleigh i see a lot of Eric STaal. He's a perfect example of a player that desperatly needs help. He's not an AO he can't put a team on his shoulders and go with it. But if you give him the right cast he's clutch beyond words,...ask marty broduer.

I could respond to this,....or as an American myself I can quote the great Abe Lincoln "it is better to stay silent and have people think you are a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt." Mr. Bettman step away from the computer.

here's what killed me, the other day the canes were playing the wild on a sunday. Yahoo was carrying the game for free on the their site so I gleefully tune in,...only to be told since i'm in North Carolina,...it's blacked out. So what do i Do? Turn to free streams where i watch the canes win their first in 14. The crazy thing is,....Yahoo shows free games at high quality on the regular. You have to watch an AD when you see it, but that's it,....Free hockey. Why Bettman? Why isn't their an NHL service like this?

The point the guy was trying to make is a valid one. I don't think i've ever seen a single stanley cup presentation where we wasn't booed in the last nine or ten years.

Chicago chants "Detroit Sucks" when Hawks play other teams?
theman19 replied to Miller Brew's topic in General
they're far from the only team to do that. I can think of instances where the stars and that avs have done it over the years as well. -
On his twitter page. To lazy to post the link, but it's on tsn.ca Not a bad move by carolina, i'm sure they didn't want to give up assets to get Biron. As a lukewarm canes fan (give me a break i live in Raleigh) i really wish they'd just tank ala 93' sens or the 84' pens and draft Taylor Hall.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_dadd...1&success=1 anyone who follows puckdaddy knows he's a bit of a homer and that's okay. But i found his logic in this post flawed. His first two teams on the list are the canes and lightning champ teams, which he comments that for this or that reason shouldn't have won the cup. Then goes on a few teams down to say the pens of last season were a "monster" Now as someone who's always had a shine for the canes (i am afterall born and raised North Carolinian) It's always irked me for people to say the 06 canes shouldn't have won the cup. My point is, people could and probably should say that about the pens, but arn't. If people are still talking about the flames got jobbed out of the cup, how come only a few bitter wings fans are talking about the pens?

This. If hurricanes fans have thrown him under the bus you know in you're bad shape.
-
If we make a trade at the deadline it's cause we're in a better position than we are in now. If we start to slip again i can totally see holland trading for some help on D or a better back up Biron's name has been batted around quite a bit.

I was watching that game last night thinking, "He's back." Truth is he never left, we would do well to remember players get injured especially with what homer does. Last night he turned probably the best goalie in the NHL into a tantrum inducing three year old.

only issue i have is how low ward is, but he's incosistant on a season by season basis. So i understand that.

I wonder what effect this has on hudler and the wings,...maybe a return a year sooner? -

Griffins Select a Pair of Fan Submitted 3rd Jerseys

i actually think my favorite is the far right one, second to last row from the bottom. -
With the signing of bert, our forward corps appear to be established. Good or bad, this is going to be a season that i doubt very few people can predict with any kind of conviction in their voices. The hockey news has us anywhere from 1-7th and i think that's spot on,...you really can't predict. This offseason reminds me of the off season heading out of the lockout. Coincedently it was my first season here at LGW as well. Back then, there was a flurry of what-ifs and speculation FA came and went, with LGW clamoring for either the bulin wall or Mark Bell (or both). In the end the fans were disappointed, we signed three guys who for the life of us all we couldn't figure out why they were wings now That season, Lilja, Samuelsson and Cleary joined us. Hindsight being what it is, those were fantastic deals for us. This season we face a slew of signings that again appear to be baffalling moves given our needs, after all we did lose several outstanding players only to replace them with C and D rated replacements. Still, i don't feel any negativity towards this years squad. I'm hopeful, just like i was in 06 that we are fans and they are managers for a reason. No, this isn't a blind "in Holland we trust" thread but lets let the dust settle on the first part of the season before we throw everyone under the bus. What do you guys think? Here's my incredibly biases opinion, Eaves is going to resurrect his career here, his comparison to cleary is premature, but it could be spot on in a bout six months. Bertuzzi is going to give us what he gave the flames, a productive injury shorted season. Hopefully without the stupid penalties Williams is going to show that he learned something and not suck Lenio is going to dazzle this season

oh i agree on all points. I'm already hearing "doom and gloom" reports from some mags. about the wings this year. Ideal situation for me? Pens/wings rematch,....totally healthy wings squad
