That's something else I never thought of. It takes literally less than 1 second to raise the whistle to your mouith and blow in it. Now, unless the referee had just slipped and fallen or was somehow tied up by another player when the play happens, I can understand the "intent to blow" call. That, so far as I know, has NEVER been the case.
-
Not the fact that Pittsburgh escaped penalty for having a sixth man on the ice for over 20 seconds?
-
At least in basketball, you absolutely know that the star players get the calls, and the jailed official admitted that NBA referees fix the games. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the same kind of stuff happens in the NHL.
-
He came out and basically said that he screwed up the call.
-
I remember that one, that was horrible. Thank God McGeugh is out of the league now.
-
Only problem with the "refs are simply incompetent" argument is that I don't think I've ever seen a team recieve as many non-goals as Detroit has. This would be happening league wide on a consistent basis. Now I'm sure teams have had goals waived off on occasion due to the "intent to blow the whistle" rule (which by the way is total garbage), but the Red Wings seem to be the team that has this happen on a consistent basis.
-
The league needs to introduce a "red flag" type rule where calls can be challenged. This is getting ridiculous. That's like saying that a goal should be waived off because the goalie had the intent to stop the shot.
-
I'm getting tired of that. He absolutely needed to have a bit more of reaction than he did. I'm not saying throw a fit like the minor coach did, but geez, show a little emotion.

Good job Mickey, definately a circus out there.

Just for the sake of all the conspiracy theorists, is there another team that we know of that has this kind of s*** pulled on them as CONSISTENTLY as Detroit?
-
How in the hell could that not count? Does Toronto not overrule on-ice officials? The NHL is a complete joke, but I can't seriously believe they weren't telling them that it was clearly a goal.

******* BULLs***

Toronto had damn well better be calling this.
