Maybe he can be a go-to guy in the shootouts. He also had a pretty nice spinorama move against Luongo that hit the post, would have been a highlighter had it gone in.
-
Well, thank God for Comcast, I guess.

I still always get a kick out of the differences between goalies of then and now. Give Sawchuk ginormous pads like those and he'd win MVP every year.

Going with players playing for the Wings when I've been alive - Forwards Brendan Shanahan (1997) - Steve Yzerman (2000) - Pavel Datsyuk (2009) Bob Probert (1989) - Sergei Fedorov (1994) - Brett Hull (2002) Gerard Gallant (1989) - Henrik Zetterberg (2008) - Johan Franzen (2008) Darren McCarty (1997) - Igor Larionov (1997) - Martin Lapointe (2001, without the dumb penalties) Defense Paul Coffey (1996) - Nicklas Lidstrom (2006) Vladdy Konstantinov (1997) - Niklas Kronwall (2008 playoffs) Chris Chelios (2002) - Slava Fetisov (1996) Goaltending Chris Osgood (2008 and 2009 playoffs) Dominik Hasek (2002)

I don't know about an exact line, but the defensive line would surely include Vladdy Konstantinov.

Honestly, it had always been my worst fear to see another team skate the Stanley Cup at the Joe. When it happened last June, it really wasn't the horrifying experience I thought it would be. Crosby and Co. are in for a tough awakening when the Flyers come to town. I'm hoping for a third consecutive playoff matchup between the two teams. As much a rival as Detroit has become for the Pens, I still think that Philly is their first and foremost foe. Adding Pronger to the lineup will help to give the Flyers that extra edge that they didn't seem to have. That, combined with the Pens losses of Scuderi and Gill will make it a bit easier to get to Fleury. If Emery is able to re-capture the form of 2007, I don't see the Pens beating Philly for a third straight year.

The standings could very well also be altered with whoever ultimately lands Heatley. If he doesn't get moved (and I don't think he will), I don't expect another potential 50 goal year, but rather for him to spend the season sulking that he didn't get to leave.

After scoring goals in both games 1 and 2, I think it was a mistake to pull him, even if it was in favor of a veteran forward in Draper.

That's too bad. One of the all time Red Wing fan favorites. Hopefully he gets a job in broadcasting around here.

#5 - BETTERTHANU
-
One of LGW's mainstays, along with goalie threads and "________ is lazy and sucks!"
-
Congrats to Aaron, he'll be missed around here.
-
If he stays healthy, it's not hard to picture him getting 40 plus.
-
If it was all about good weather, then Tampa, Phoenix, Anaheim, and Florida would be at the top of every free agent's list.
-
For whatever reason, I'm thinking that not every Sen would welcome him back so quickly.
-
Does having a Cup ring not make you a loser? Claude Lemieux has three.
-
I don't see him being exactly welcomed back after his time over there.
-
I wouldn't say that if you're referring to the Steve Moore hit on Naslund. It looked like a direct headshot, and Moore definately deserved a beatdown. A Vancouver player should have challenged him to a fight, done their business, and that would be it. Hopefully though, this nonsense of instigating fights after a CLEAN bodycheck needs to stop leagewide.
-
Right. He's playing for the Vikings because he's strapped for cash.
-
Dang. Just when Cheli wasn't resigned.

Sorry Danny, but you're really asking us to join the rest of Pittsburgh on the Penguins bandwagon? Also....really? You're still bitching about Hossa? If you think getting a brand new arena will do anything, go check out those Phoenix Coyotes. Also, you're kidding yourself if you think Max Talbot will all of a sudden blossom into a sniper after he was in the right place at the right time on two occasions in Game 7. The Lightning had Khabibulin, Lecavelier, St. Louis, and Richards. The Hurricanes had Ward, Eric Staal, Williams, and Brind'amour. The Senators had Alfredson, Heatley, Spezza, Phillips, and a good-when-on-his-game Emery. The Ducks had Getzlaf, Perry, Pronger, Selanne and Giguere. None of them except for a revamped Carolina team has made it even remotely close to the Finals since those one year-wonders.

I don't remember anyone on LGW threatening to kill an opposing player.

Trade him to the Island for Marty Biron. Above average goalie, very cheap at $1.4 million, free agent next summer, and the Isles can never get enough goaltending. I've (and others here) always thought that Biron would look good in a Red Wings uniform. He seemed disappointed to leave Philadelphia for the NHL's basement, and surely would welcome a trade to a contending team. It's only a matter of time before DiPietro gets hurt again, the guy is more fragile than glass. And while Roloson isn't the long term answer, maybe Howard would perform better in an environment where there isn't as much pressure on the goaltenders and the team to win. MacDonald and Danis are both gone, leaving them basically with Biron, Roloson, and DP. A Roloson-DP/Howard tandem could work nicely for them.

Sadly, the trend is becoming more and more about playing for the $$$$.
