I have the biggest soft spot for the Joe, and am going to be one sad individual when it closes. All I ask is that the new arena keeps the Joe's goal horn, the Hockeytown logo, and good lighting. (Yes, good lighting. Other NHL arena's look dark on the inside, I've always noticed the Joe to be very bright on the inside.)

Players I would like a possibility of coming to Detroit

Not that I'd want him here, but what is your take on Fedotenko? -
Apparently you weren't watching in 2007.

Heatley gives list of teams he'd accept trade to
Hockeytown0001 replied to crazy13's topic in General
I'd be curious to see how Heatley would do in a Red Wings uniform, but he's far too expensive. -
I think one could simply garner that from your avatar.

Holland waiting for 09-10 cap (update on contract offers)

I'd tend to be in agreement with this. Also, wasn't Coklin quoted as saying he wants to stay and would take less to do so? -
I'm lost

That was another good trait of Cheli; taking whatever the Wings would pay him in order to keep playing.
-
Why? It's Hank's defensive prowess that makes him perhaps the best two-way player in the league.

Probably been answered already, but how much salary does this free up?
-
I'd be open to getting rid of Kopecky. He's never going to get sufficient playing time here, he's far too injury prone, and I think he could do better elsewhere with more playing time. It can't be more than a million dollars that it would free up (right?), but every bit would help.

This.

I get the feeling that Sundin would immediately replace Samuelsson as the new LGW whipping boy.
-
So long, Cheli. Thanks for the memories.
-
I tend not to care about a different team's fans, the majority of whom couldn't name more than 3 players on their team.
-
Not that I wouldn't like it, but I'd be suprised to see Ian Laperierre in a Wings jersey next season.

No brainer here. Greatest captain and leader in modern hockey.

Longshot but is it possible Penguins could match what Oilers
Hockeytown0001 replied to thegreat66's topic in General
I'd tend to agree with something like that. Gonchar is one of the few players on Pittsburgh who I can respect, along with Fleury and, up until his comments at the parade, Dan Bylsma. It's often hard to respect, however, a perennial diver and whiner like Crosby; he wasn't voted the number one whiner in the league by the players for nothing. It's also hard to respect Malkin, Kunitz, Talbot, Gill, and others who start scrums after the whistle and resort to cheap-shotting when being badly outplayed and losing like in Game 5. And we're certainly never going to respect Penguins fans who take glee in the economic problems of Detroit (not posters like you and BewarethePenguin) and who have nothing to offer other than rubbing in the win and gushing over Crosby. -
Best. jersey. ever.

See my post in the first page of the thread about other Cup champion/finalists best four players and how they easily could have become dynasties because of them, but look what happened to them after. -
Hey, what can you expect from an overhyped, overexposed, and vastly overrated celebrity like Crosby? Pretty soon he'll get to meet another overhyped, overexposed, and vastly overrated celebrity - Barack Obama.

Another point - the greed of today's professional athletes is borderline insanity.
