Longshot but is it possible Penguins could match what Oilers
Hockeytown0001 replied to thegreat66's topic in General
Anything is possible. But is it likely? No. You could have made that argument about Tampa Bay's core of Lecalvalier, St. Louis, Richards and Boyle. Or Carolina's core of Brind'amour, Staal, Ward, and Williams. Or Anaheim's core of Getzlaf, Perry, Pronger, and Giguere. Or even Ottawa's core of Alfredsson, Heatly, Spezza, and Phillips. -
I hope I'm not the only one who think that Hudler wouldn't be as good somewhere else as he is here.
-
Or last season's playoffs, or the season before that, or the season before that. Three consecutive 2nd round losses.
-
For some reason I think that their idea of an elite offensive threat is re-signing Sundin.
-
How much would this deal affect their ability to re-sign Luongo next summer?

Best -Detroit -Chicago -Rangers -Canucks (great color scheme imo) -Flyers Worst -Penguins -Ducks

Hopefully the Wings can re-sign Hossa. Any time you can take a 40 goal scorer, you do it.

Don't be stooping down to Pen's fan troll level (not BewarethePenguin). -

If you come here simply to start s***, your stay here won't be very long. Take the examples of Duck Guy and BewarethePenguin as opposing fans who contribute nicely here and run with that. -

Not trying to start something here, but say that the NHL grew a pair and actually suspended Malkin for Game 3 as the rule states. He obviously doesn't get the 3 assists he had, and say Detroit beat the Pens to go up 3-0. Are you saying that the thought "Detroit won because we didn't have Malkin" would never have crossed your mind? Detroit's injuries definately were a factor in the series. No, Pittsburgh didn't beat Detroit because they were healthier, they beat Detroit because they outplayed them. However, injuries absolutely played a part in Detroit's lackluster play. By the way, does anyone have the numbers from the Pen's Cup parade? I read on NHL.com that "tens of thousands" came. Is that anywhere near the over one million that came for each of the 4 parades in Detroit? -
Ovechkin, Thornton, Kane, Lidstrom, Iginla, Luongo, Zetterberg, Nash, Brodeur, Datsyuk, Getzlaf, Lecavalier. 12 players who the NHL needs to be marketing.

Said the duck.

You very well may be the only one aside from Chicago fans who are still crying that Kronwall rocking Havlat was somehow a dirty play.

Everyone boooes Bettman. Remember either in Carolina or Anaheim during the Cup presentation, the booing was so bad that he said, "It's okay, I bring gifts!"

Pass.

And the Penguins are playing for the Stanley Cup!
Hockeytown0001 replied to BewareThePenguin's topic in General
Seriously, this bulls*** again? This was a fine post until that line. Perfect example of a real traitor? When Fedorov spurned the Red Wings - the team that arranged his defection from the Soviet Union, treated him like a rock star, matched Carolina's ridiculous offer-sheet to keep him around, and basically became his second home for over 10 years - for the Mighty Ducks because he wanted to be the man somewhere else instead of playing in Steve Yzerman's shadow. NOT a player who was traded to your team at the trade deadline and an upcoming free agent that summer. Marian Hossa has next to zero real history with Pittsburgh. That would be the same as us calling Wendel Clark and Todd Bertuzzi "traitors" because they didn't re-sign with Detroit after being traded here at the deadline. Simply put, Hossa was a rental. He wasn't part of your team for 10 plus years. Pittsburgh didn't even draft him. And as other posters have said, if Hossa had re-signed with the Pens, there's no telling where their cap situation would be right now. Enough crying over Hossa being a "traitor" for not re-signing with the team he played on for less than four months. -
Are you the same guy on Freep.com who said that "Sydney" was the best player of all time?

SCF GAME 6 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Penguins 2
Hockeytown0001 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
First post in a GDT (other than making it) this Finals, as last year I didn't post in a GDT and the Red Wings won the Cup. But it's time to speak after another loss like that. My thoughts from the game - First and absolutely foremost, the Red Wings lost because they simply did not show up to play this game, and that feeling is about 10 times more disappointing than if they had come play and lost in overtime. I don't think that it was a matter being outplayed by the Penguins, because we have all seen what the Red Wings can do when they want to. The passes were off, the forecheck was off, the shots were low quality, there was little hustle and passion, and far too much looking for a pretty play instead of simply crashing the net. I am extremely disappointed in Marian Hossa's play. There has to be an injury that we're not aware of, because I just don't buy that he's playing this lackluster in the Stanley Cup Finals with his reputation for his move last summer on the line. Second, regardless of the outcome on Friday night, the Conn Smythe Trophy goes to Chris Osgood. The man played perhaps the best game of the playoffs thus far in my opinion; the score is easily 4 or 5 to 1 without his play. In my mind, he was the only player for Detroit who played like he had his heart set on raising the Stanley Cup tonight. Third, I'm not one to complain about the officiating, but tonight was an absolute disgrace. Nobody in their right mind can say that it wasn't slanted towards Pittsburgh tonight. I defy any of the knowledgeable Penguins posters on this board to challenge that statement. It's no wonder why the NHL's ratings are lower with this bush league officiating. (And yes, the Red Wings have gotten away with a lot this series.) And I was a bit suprised, since I've always viewed Bill McCreary as one of the better referees in the league. Game Seven can go either way. Hopefully, the home ice and the last change will work to the advantage of Detroit. Congrats to the Penguins for stretching this series up with a great game tonight. The Fleury saves on Zetterberg early and on Cleary at the end were the difference in my mind. -
I'd say he deserves a star of the game simply for the play at the end.
