    Ladies equivalent to playoff beard

Sorry, I just wear Red through the playoffs until they get knocked out. All these pathetic Blues fans around here know my Wings are still it because I'm still wearing red.

Games now equal, San Jose is closing in

Totally agree. Not only that, but hot streaks come to an end. I'm glad they are hitting that streak now, maybe they'll be on skid when the playoffs start.

    Fun topic. Share your thoughts.

I had a friend that worked at the Castle Pines golf course in Colorado and apparently Roy was a member and golfed there quite frequently. They actually had armed guards at the gate. Apparently one day Roy forgot his ID and was completely indignant that they wouldn't just let him in because he's "Patrick Roy". That guy had a huge entitlement complex.

Take your shots at the Pad

Try this: (those of you that don't own a hockey stick may need to borrow one) draw a line on the ground, place a puck on the line on its edge and try to get the puck to go straight down that line. Try it on your forehand first, then move to your backhand (Lilja was on his backhand). Now, ask your large-sized friend to run into you at full speed while you try to keep that puck on the line that you drew from your backhand side. Post your results so we can laugh at you and tell you how much you suck. The difference, I'm not getting paid to be a professional hockey player, Lilja is.

Of course he wasn't on the ice. He was in the box for a stupid penalty, putting his teammates in a position of defending 4 against 6. So, how does him not being on the ice at the time of the goal make him blameless?

    Wings among trade deadline losers

Agreed. Besides, isn't it better that we are racked with injuries now than a month from now as we are heading into the playoffs. Even considering all the injuries and that we are on a serious losing streak, we are still in first place in the league. Instead on constantly complaining maybe we should happy that the team played so well prior to the injuries to allow us to remain on top despite the loses.

I'm with you on pretty much everything you said. Meech - WOW - I hope they don't send him back down. I think he'll only get better the more time they give him to play. Ericksson - yes, he made some bad plays and one of them allowed Edmonton to score. However, he did come back and score to make up for his mistake. I think he has huge potential. I'm not sure he needs more time in the AHL. I think a part of it may be that he needs time with the team to build some chemistry. Of course I am willing to admit that I may be wrong and he may need another year in the AHL. Lilja - he made a good defensive play along with Datsyuk that covered one side on a breakaway, allowing Osgood to make the save on the other side, preventing an Edmonton goal. The problem is that he gave them a goal at the end of the game allowing them to eventually win and negating the good save he made. To take such a stupid penalty at the end of the game, a game we should have won, took away any momentum/confidence the team could have taken into the next game.

    Lilja

I guess it depends on your idea of objective. Or better yet, your idea of decent hockey. I don't think taking stupid penalties every third minute to allow the other team an almost constant man advantage is decent hockey. To be objective, yes he on occassion makes a decent play, but those occasions do not outweigh the damage he is capable of doing.

    Cup-bound Ducks?

I agree completely. Besides, what has Selanne been doing while he's been weighing his options. Is he in the right condition to just jump right back out on the ice? What about team chemistry? That will take a little time to get back after messing with the lines to fit him back in.

    Ovechkin signs 13-year/$124M extension

Say he did agree to take less so the organization could build a team around him - what guarantees management actually uses that money for that purpose. Not only that, but doesn't the management/owner of every team have some responsibility for writing these ridiculous contracts? Is someone were willing to pay you that kind of money would you tell them no?

Bettman: No NHLers at 2014 Olympics possible

I want to know how someone who is not a fan of hockey is suddenly going to be watching games after seeing our stars in the Olympics. I pay a good chunk of money each year for center ice to watch hockey because I love it, but I highly doubt someone with minimal interest after the Olympics will put out that kind of money. The only time it is readily available is if it is the local market team or some of the playoff games are broadcast on NBC. Not only that, if someone has no interest in hockey at all, why would they watch an Olympic hockey game. I have no interest in shooting and when that portion of the Olympics is on, I turn on something else. You could make the argument that some people will watch events they have no interest in if their country is competing, and that may be so, but how many of those big names you keep throwing out there are Americans? and are non-hockey fans going to be paying attention to the NHL stars on the Swedish Olympic team.

    Some thoughts on NHL quality

If all you want is goals, you could just pay one team to take a dive and let the other team score about 30 goals. I like goals (for my team) as much as the next guy, but to be honest the closer the score, the more competetive the game. That's why watching teams play Phoenix is so boring. There is no competition.

    Some thoughts on NHL quality

The problem with contracting the league so only superstars would be on the ice, is that when do the young guys get a chance to play and develop their talents so they may one day be superstars. We already have people complaining that it takes too long for young talent to actually get to play with the Wings because of the talent we have. Imagine how much more difficult it would be if all team had so much talent they couldn't afford to risk bringing in young players.

    Power Play vs. 5 - 5 Play

Yeah, clearly a weakness, that's why he is consistantly considered for the Norris and usually wins. As for Pronger, how much help is he when he's not on the ice, which is what happens when he gets suspended for cheapshots. Blake doesn't even belong in the same category as Lidstrom, which is why he wasn't nominated. As for Neidermayer, I have no problem with him. Your claim that Lidstrom hurts the Wings in the playoffs is just ridiculous. If he were available, there isn't a team out there that wouldn't jump at the chance to have him. How can the best defenseman in the league be a bad thing during the playoffs. It's called skill. Lidstrom can make the plays without being a goon like Pronger. Jealous are you?

    Hockeytown is DEAD

I agree with you completely. I can't believe a Wings fan can consider their play boring. They skate well, they pass well, they win. I thought the 3rd period of the opener was great. It was fast paced and had the look of a playoff game. You want to talk boring - go look at baseball or football, where the game takes hours because there is so much time where the game is not even being played. If you watch a baseball game half of your time is spent watching people scratch or spit. There is so much time between action you can run out and get beer and not miss anything. Football is the same way. You watch a play and then you wait while they stand around and decide what to do next. I know there are tv timeouts in hockey to allow for commercials, but with baseball and football you have commercial breaks in addition to regular breaks during the actual game time. The only way the wings play can be considered boring is if you are only watching for the brawls. Granted I enjoy it when the drop the gloves too, but there is so much more. I love the pace. I love watching the skill and the chemistry.

    Konstantinov case goes to court

The question comes to mind - did any of them complain to the limo company before they drove off. I mean if they were concerned enough to wear their seatbelts while partying, why did they drive off without being able to put them on. The answer ... they weren't going to wear them anyway.

    Sad state of affairs

Sorry, have to disagree with you there. If they don't like hockey, they have no idea who Sid is.

    Best foot forward

I don't think it has anything to do with race, but I do think the issue is socio-economic. There are a lot of football and basketball players that grew up seeing pro sports as their way out. Football and basketball are cheaper sports to get into. Hockey is a very expensive sport, so the people who make it to the NHL grew up with different lifestyles and different expectations.

Anaheim not exactly the new Hockeytown

I lived with someone who grew up in SoCal. The one thing I know for certain is they have thin blood. Think about it. These people are used to warm weather and shorts. It gets into the 60's and they turn on the heat. Do you really expect them to be lining up to go sit in an arena that has to be cold enough to keep the ice frozen?

    WCF Post-GAME 5 (5/20): Ducks 2, Red Wings 1 (OT)

Ok, someone needs to help me out here, because I must be seeing things. They only showed one replay of the one that Lidstrom shot that rang off the pipe, but I very clearly saw a shadow that bounced off the pipe at the back, then the pipe the Jiggy's left before being launched back out the net. Clearly if I'm the only one who saw it, it doesn't make any difference, but I think the Wings will be looking at tape and they will pick up on it and know that despite the goal with 47 seconds left, the win should have been theirs. They will come back and win. Seriously though, no one else saw it? I knew once I saw it that the game would go into overtime and we would lose by that one goal.

Funniest comment from a Ducks fan

Here are a couple from ducks fans on TSN: Maybe Holmstrom shouldn't play the way he does if he doesn't want to be a target. His non-stop cheap play just got cashed in on him. When games go this way the heavy hits of frustration soon follow. They should be the Winey Wings with all the complaining they do and then there is Hasek. It would be a disgrace to the cup to have this group of crybabies etched upon it. Theme of this years playoffs .... REFS and powerplays determine cup outcome. Whatever happened to the teams deciding the outcome??? I really hope the wings don't win the cup. They symbolize EVERYTHING that is wrong with the "new nhl". I guess they can't say we the Cup anymore, so now the refs are giving it to us. Obviously the idiot who wrote that didn't watch the game since only one of the goals was a pp goal. Maybe if the Duck don't want to give us powerplays they should stop playing goon hockey.

Pronger: "They can't handle us 5-on-5..."

I think you need to get a grip and realize that Beauchemin is not playing for the Wings and that part of the game is being able to bank shots off the opponents skates in front of the net and give credit where credit is due. Game two would not have gone into overtime if Hasek had not done his snow angel across the goal line with the puck tucked into his leg pad and we would be leading this series 2 to 1. Besides, I'm pretty sure I kept hearing how Beachemin was so great and we would underestimate his abilities, before the series began. It's amazing that now he is the scapegoat.

    Go Ducks

I have a friend, who is in no way a Wings fan. I asked him last night what he thought of the upcoming series. He really thought San Jose would beat the Wings, he doesn't think the Ducks can. He said the Ducks lack of depth and experience will cost them the series in the end. I'm going to take his opinion over a Ducks fan's opinion any day.
