Sounds to me like someone who is jealous of the history of our team. Good idea, lets put our guys from the rafters against yours. Oh, wait, you don't have any. Ok, lets put our hall of famers up against yours. Oh, wait, you don't have any of those either. If you want to look at history, look at the years since the San Jose Sharks began, 1991. Whose won the cup during that time frame? Not the Sharks. Whose had several 100+ point seasons. Not the Sharks. I'd suggest if you want to debate the issue, you leave history out of it, because you'll lose that battle every time. As for our guys on the ice, which one of your defensemen has won the Norris more times than Nick Lidstrom, please refresh my memory? Oh, and it just so happens that Lidstrom is on the list of the top 5 offensive leaders in the first round. Who is on that list from San Jose? No one. Oh, wait, Nick is on the list of top 5 players with assists too. Oh, sorry, no one from San Jose made that list either. Johan Franzen is on the list of top 5 players for plus/minus. Hmmm, no one from San Jose again. Goals against average, Hasek is on that list. Ooops, neither of your netminders made that list either. Oh, look, Nabakov made the list for wins, too bad Hasek is tied with him on that list.

Pre-GAME 1 (4/26): Sharks @ Red Wings - 7:30 PM ET

I just find the idea that the Sharks outclass the Flames a bit funny, since they owned you during the regular season. How do you explain that? Obviously your size and physicality didn't help you against them? Maybe it is that Kipper is the better goaltender. Wait, the Wings beat kipper. I'm just curious, did you notice Aflac's great stats at the beginning of this thread, the Wings have the advantage. -

Of course they do, they are watching tape until tonight when they can watch an actual game to see how to win a playoff series. -
And here's the excuse they will use when they lose: "Just a word of warning here, as the playoff go on, and as games mean more, as much as we would like to pretend otherwise, calls will become looser. Also, don't under-estimate the Bowman factor. Scotty is still a Red Wings employee, but he also still travels frequently with Mr. Bettman, including last week during the playoffs. Travel with the commissioner while doing advance scouting and consulting for a team still in the playoffs that is dependent on call levels and has not been happy with they officiating standard. It can have an influence. " From the San Jose message board.

Ok, maybe my memory is a little foggy, so correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't this the same sharks team that was on fire at the beginning of the season (when they had their way with us), but struggled a lot at the end of the regular season. So, they dispatched Nashville without too much trouble, look at our regular season record against Nashville. I don't think that proves anything. I keep hearing the same thing "if the Sharks play a physical game, they'll take the series", isn't that what everyone kept saying about Calgary?

The poor coverage in the US is why I have center ice. The problem is that the poor coverage in the US is only going to make the sport less popular here. Those people that are casual fans won't pay for center ice, so they just forget about hockey and move on to something else. The sport won't draw any new fans that way either. And there are new fans out there to be had. I had never seen a hockey game until about 10 years ago. Now my friends refer to me as a hockey junkie, because once hockey season starts it takes precedence over everything else and live comes to complete halt once the playoffs begin. I have a friend who has 2 young boys. My friend and her husband do not like hockey, but the grandparents take the boys to see UHL games. If they could watch hockey without their parents having to pay for it, they probably would and would probably grow into adult fans.

I am so pumped! Game Time. GO WINGS!!!

Unfortunately, I live in Blues territory. Missed the game last Sunday because the local NBC affiliate pre-empted the game with a Cardinals game and now this. At least last week I could hear it via radio broadcast, this storm may knock out everything. Hoping it's a fast moving storm and I'm clear of it by the time they drop the puck.

20 minutes to game time and thunderstorm just blew in. If I lose my directv feed when this game is on I'm just going to scream.

Coudn't agree more. One Flames fan went so far as to say he was just sorry McLennan hadn't broken Franzen's arm. Regardless of what you think of a team or a particular player, it is disgusting to wish an injury on another person. I love hockey and I love the Wings and I love to see the Wings win, but it is just a game and I would never wish someone harm just to get further in the standings. I always had a lot of respect for the Flames fans, probably most because of the atmosphere when the Flames play at home. I always thought that kind of team support was incredible and don't understand why we don't have that kind of atmosphere in Hockeytown. Unfortunately, after this whole mess I can honestly say any respect I had for Flames fans is gone. I hope the league suspends McLennan, Iginla, and Langkow. If the Flames come out with the same maliciious intent to injure in game 6 as they seem to be saying they will, I hope the league suspends every player that takes a cheap shot and they send a real message that the intent to injure has not place in the NHL and if you want to play that way, you won't be playing in the NHL. THANK YOu!!!

This is what is so ridiculous about this whole situation. People are acting as though Kipper is the only goalie this is happening to. I wish I'd recorded the games so I coud go back through each game and give you the exact minute of play when Hasek and our net when flying into the boards because someone ran into him. I agree that the refs are not protecting the goalies as they should, but seriously if you want to have a real discussion about it, admit that Kipper is not the gaolie getting run into and address it as such. Don't act like the Wings are the only team crashing into goalies and they are cheap shot team because of it. As for your question, I wouldn't care if it were Osgood as our back-up or Hasek as our starter and it cost us the cup, if someone on the Wings pulled that crap I'd want them suspended for a long time. As many have said, that kind of crap has no place in hockey. That is why non-hockey fans think it is a game for neadrethals.

one little, two little, three little goals four little, five little, six little goals sever little, eight little, nine little goals, TEN little RED WING goals!!
-
I only saw it, so maybe I didn't really see it and I dreamt it, but I swear, once, before the end of the season there was a commercial during one of the games with Maltby asking all Red Wing fans to wear red everyday throughout their playoff run to show that this country really is a RED WING nation. So, as difficult as it has been to find enough clothes to wear red everyday, I'm doing it. GO WINGS!!

I think a lot of it has to do with the history and tradition of the Wings.

Pre-GAME 4: (4/19) Red Wings @ Flames - 9:30 PM EDT
redwing711 replied to Must Kill's topic in General
I usually don't make game predictions, but I'm feeling inspired today. Wings net 2 in the first, Calgary zero, taking the crowd out of the equation. The Lang/Calder line was given a wake up call by Babs after the last game and they net a couple more before the end of the game. 4-2 Wings. -
I agree ... Filppula.
-
Sorry, they can't show the live feed to anyone outside of Canada. Still looking.

Normallly, I'd agree. However, I live about an hour outside of St. Louis and #&%!@ NBC affiliate in St. Louis has pre-empted the Wings game and is showing a $%#&* Cardinals baseball game!. So, I'm relying on all of you to keep me in the loop on what's happening. I'm so angry, there aren't even words. I've been waiting for this game since we played Thursday.
-
Ok homer. How do we rate an A- on the penalty kill when we gave up a PP goal and Calgary only rates a B+ for allowing 1 goal and killing of a full 2 minutes of 5 on 3. I think you need to flip those around.

Non-Michigan fans: How did you become a Wings fan?
redwing711 replied to Chaldean's topic in General
This is probably the dumbest reason of all. My family hails from Chicago. My parents aren't really into hockey, but did watch the blackhawks as kids. I had heard stories about hockey, but grew up in a small town and never even saw a hockey game until I was an adult and had ESPN. The first game I ever saw was Detroit against someone. Knowing nothing about hockey, I just picked a team to cheer for. I don't even remember why I picked them over the other team, but I've stuck with them ever since. Oh, and I do have friends who are devout Avs fans, so that rivalry solidified my love of the Wings. -
This may be in the GDT, but honestly didn't feel like reading through 50 pages of posts. This is the 2nd game against Nashville in Nashville that I've seen them throw fish out on the ice. They have no history, so no tradition, but putting that aside, what could possibly the reason for throwing catfish. At least the octopi have a reason behind them. Maybe they are throwing catfish because they can't get their hands on a whole tuna. Anyone know what it's about?
-
I agree. I had Dish Network until the whole fiasco with OLN last year and they offered both feeds. I get tired of listening to other announcers massacre our players names.

I hope Tootoo flips over head first into our bench after one of our guys sidesteps a check, and I hope one of our guys on the bench stands on his stick until we score. GOAL!!!
