5.5 - 3.9 = $1.6 million discount/year. His actual salary doesn't count, just the cap hit.
-
I was hoping an 11 year contract would drive the hit down to the 3 million range. Still, I can't complain about geting a player 3.9 when he could get 5-6 on the open market.

The Hart is supposed to go to the most valuable player, and on this team, with so much talent, it's difficult to say Datsyuk should win it. What he should win is the Pearson, which is awarded to the best player.

I used to see them at Meijer all the time.

f*** the all star game. Nick understands that playoff games in June are more important than exhibition games in February.
-
Why? Because they're harder to see at night?

I'd take Lidstrom from this year's team and Gordie Howe all time. Gordie Howe, in my opinion, is the only choice for an all time player. A lot of players were elite, but only one player was elite for 30 years. I don't really know too much about coaches, but Al Arbour would probably be my choice since I can't pick Scotty Bowman.

Arguing about the amount of training men and women receive is pointless. It's not a question of training. Women are physically inferior to men. I pulled that quote from here. I'm not sure how reputable this site or the information is, but the president of this organization is a former member of the Pentagon's Defense advisory Committee on Women in the Services, and the 1992 Presidential Commission on the assignment of Women in the armed Services.

Given all the same advantages that men have, the best female hockey player in the world would still only be a borderline AHLer/fourth line NHL player. And even then she probably couldn't stick in the league because no woman would ever be able to develop the strength needed to be an effective fourth line player.

Anybody else up to watch the race tonight? -
http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...ilppula_qu.html This will be his fourth straight start. With only 11 games left in the season, it looks like the starting job may be Osgood's to lose.

Remember this?

Looks like they got it. 17th pick of the second round this year. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=413511

This is the same thing Tampa did to Andreychuk a few years back. Classless organization.

I can't see the Wings going after Laperriere. He's not the kind of guy that would get too much ice time in the playoffs. Gary Roberts, on the other hand, could be this year's Dallas Drake.
-
I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, or if this was mentioned when he signed, but apparently Brian Rafalski turned down an $8 million/year offer from another team to sign with the Wings. George Malik mentions this in his blog on mlive. http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/ Every time I hear about Ken Holland pulling off these types of deals it never ceases to amaze me.

No.

I may be misreading, but I think he's saying we should have given Osgood a break back in December. That way Osgood could have had more time off to recover from his groin injury and retool his game, and we would already know what we have in Jimmy Howard.
-
The only reason Osgood was let go the first time was because we traded for arguably one of the three best goalies in the history of the NHL, and he didn't deserve to be a back-up when he was good enough to start on most of the other teams in the league. Apart from this season, Osgood has always been a solid number one goalie, and he always raises his game in the playoffs. I do agree, however, that he hasn't played well at all this season. I support the team's decision to give Osgood time off, and I hope he's able to raise his game back to the level we all know he's capable of playing at.
-
Ah, ok. Babcock's numbers are that much more impressive when you consider that the Red Wings were supposed to be the worst team in the history of anything coming out of the lockout. Give him a few more seasons and I think we can put Babcock on the same level as Jack Adams, Tommy Ivan, and Scotty Bowman.
-
Agreed. The Red Wings don't need another goalie with no confidence contemplating suicide.
-
Good move here by management. Ozzie hasn't been up to snuff this year, and hopefully this serves as a wake-up call. If Ozzie can't put it together, I hope Howard can play some Dryden-esque hockey because I'm not sure I completely trust Conklin in the playoffs.
-
I'd take Hedman. Presently, we already have enough offense, and I trust management to find us more offense by the time Datsyuk and Zetterberg start to decline. On the other hand, while Kronwall shows flashes of greatness, and Ericsson, Kindl, and Smith appear to be great prospects, we don't have a sure fire, elite level defenseman in our system after Lidstrom retires. An elite defenseman is the one thing every Red Wings Stanley Cup champion has had in common: Goodfellow, Stewart, Kelly, Konstantinov, and Lidstrom. Hedman has the potential to be elite.
-
Ah, the ol' the defense doesn't trust Osgood so in an attempt to play better defense they play worse defense argument. I don't buy this for one second. Osgood just hasn't played well. That's all there is to it. I've seen Osgood make a lot of great saves that make me think he's starting to turn it around, but then a minute or two later he'll let in a soft goal. That's been his season in a nutshell. Great saves and soft goals.
