my take was that we needed to hit up the ole' " offer sheet on evander kane, kyle turris, etc...) and lose the draft picks. that is a retool idea that carries water. we have lots of talent coming up from the griffins in the next 3-5 years. establishing the next core is important to do now! the trade front is drying up, our used parts are great, but not worth much out in trade. UFA and offer sheets are the next best thing. when was the last notable trade for the wings? Lang? seems like the other owners are done with us, so why worry about making them mad? hell, we had to go through yzerman to get quincey...i dont think the other 29 teams are going to help us until we have 20 year olds to sell. that will not happen unless we tank ala edmonton style.

RUMOR: Wings have made an offer to Carlo Colaiacovo
luvmnger replied to chances14's topic in General
just saw it on the bottom line of the coyotes/kings replay game 3 NHLnetwork. SIGNED if its not official come morning...their are some reporters that need some talkin to. -
i think it would work, he would bring the "Rafalski" equation back to the blue line. smart, mobile, passing, and some offense. he might even be good for 2-3 years. but lets start with one. if he wants out, Snow will be forced to move him. mursak, emmerton and pick should do it.

One Dumb move made by each team this offseason
luvmnger replied to Z Winged Dangler's topic in General
i think our dumb move was putting all our hopes on 2 guys, and then getting hooked up in their waiting game. monster and brunner had me excited, then the wheels fell off. sammy and tootoo? really? i dont know who i should be mad at, holland, for holding on to the suter/parise idea too long or suter/parise for playing the waiting game and severly altering the landscape of free agency. holland needed to step off his position of offer sheets, and start doing whats best for the team. the nice guy approach worked for a while, but teams have grown tired of us being on the winning side for too long. if he were to make 2 or 3 offers this off season, yes he would piss off some owners, but the commitment to success would speak volumes to the players and that just make detroit a potential hot spot again. right now i feel we are 2-3 players away from our rightful throne as champions. as of july 1st. these guys were available to offer sheets.... RFA evander kane still available RFA ekman larsson signed RFA del zotto still available RFA perron signed RFA oshie signed RFA erik johnson signed RFA ryan o'reilly still available RFA ennis still available RFA carlson still available RFA fayne signed RFA petry signed if holland would have used the "post lidstrom" event to change his approach, we could be looking at quite the different team right now. even waitng till now could land ennis, kane, del zotto, o'reilly or carlson free agency/offer sheets have become the only way the wings can improve, the trade market is jaded towards the wings. the days of acquiring shanahan, hasek, lang, and chelios caliber players in trades, are over. -
if the lock out kills the jan.1st game, will the alumni games still happen? since the ice will be up, and the players have RSVP'd why not. anyone have details?
-
apparantly, the NHL has an agreement to call it off the day before, and no punishment. they set this in motion along with the payoff from NBC so they couldnt be used against them in case of a lock out. the players union is trying to use the winter classic as leverage to not lock out past this date for the expected revenue is sppose to be the biggest yet. so, hypothetically, if the day grows near, the arenas are up, the hotels are sold out, and then, "like pricks" they call it off. would the other games go on as scheduled? i am pretty sure that the UM has to have the ability to use the arena to their discretion if the NHL backs out. someone is paying the crews to assemble, maintain and disassemble. if the NHL backs out, who pays?

Our Current Defense / What Holland Can Do *merged
luvmnger replied to datterberg1340's topic in General
nothing is going to happen until the CBA details come out. then holland will dig through the bin to offer the best one left a small contract, and invite a handful of D-men to camp for tryouts. during this he "might" call a few eastern teams to see if their overflow works with us without a player trade beyond kindl/emmerton/mursak and low picks. we WILL have another mid-level d-man in the lineup on day one...but our offense is set. (after a few subtractions) book it. and we will all scream and ***** about " coulda, shoulda, woulda" until they get bounced, or win the cup. its a business that the last 20 years have built up a lot of jealousy, and the league is seeing a chance to avoid helping us at all costs. no trade is going to bring us a top 20 defenseman this year. i am all for an offer sheet to evander kane, and matt gilroy on D. if the wings are going to try to stay "on top" they need to get bold & young. the next few years are going to be a lull in success until our prospects start popping up, or we get aggresive in contracts. -
what about drake? any word on him? drafted by us...return to us to motivate '08 cup.

put me in the matt gilroy boat...young, hobey baker winner '09 67 games 3 17 20 +2 -
we need a power forward to score/hit/fight not a one dimentional player. ott would sorta be ok...but he is not an option. i would call this off-deason a huge success if we snatched evander kane. but he, along with others, would cost us the farm, and the barn, and the saddles. (unless holland threw a nasty offer sheet) so, we are stuck.

Tobias Enstrom signs five-year contract extension with the Jets worth
luvmnger replied to Diluvian04's topic in General
bummer...i had hopes. bogo? kane? holland???? hello? anyone home? -
oh man....this kid reminds me of shanahan/iginla power forward, scores, moves, fights when needed. he would be a serious addition for the future. i would offer sheet him ahead of most others that have been discussed. a trade though would be a bad idea...winnipeg would want the rights to the great lakes, as well as the gordie statue.

Who is your favorite player from a team besides the Wings?
luvmnger replied to CaliforniaWingsFan's topic in General
evander kane is up there....i think i have one on every team except the avs, pens, blackhawks, canucks and sharks (sorry stu). lucic weiss ekman-larsson parise -
sorry got off topic a bit....we lost the nashville series due to lack of motivation player (helm) and lack of pure sniper. 1.8 goals do not win a f**king thing. sure.. a soft goal here and there happens.....a defensive lapse happens....but no one scores....that is unacceptable. this season...if the ga is expected to rise...then the gf better get addressed.
-
we have been missing a pure goal scorer since hossa. drake's enthusiasm drove the team to the cup in 08, hossa excitement drove to 09....since then...blah. the suter/parise would have drove them this year...but.... the cornerstone to this teams success is motivation. 97 40 year drought...macarty etc... 98 konstantinov 02 hull/hasek ..etc.. 08 drake 09 hossa 13 ????? this is the question holland needs to ask himself. (pssst. the answer is doan) but this alone wont do it....we need cohesive pieces ala rouse/murphy to drive the D and a pure scorer (semin) to hit the timely goal. my fix...sign doan & semin trade for enstrom or yandle lose emmerton/kindl/tatar/mursak and picks along with either franzen or fillipula ( those 2 hurt, but you have to give..eh?) trade macdonald for a pick sign brunnstrom for another 2 way. long shot wish...evander kane may not want to return to winnipeg (rfa)

bummer...i liked exelby. he would have been a solid call up, even better than commodore was. wolski just signed for 600K with washington. another good call up/ griffins player that could have been. ya gotta wonder what up with management. too many good kids...not enough space?

who's on the outs if we sign multiple forwards?
luvmnger replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
eaves has stated he is going to be ready, and he signed a 3 year last season. he is a scorer turned grinder...his value is more than we give him. abdelkader /bertuzzi / miller are more expendable.
