Should we risk our future for an elite defenseman?

i have one word for this post.... Ekman-Larsson the wings should go after this kid as soon as they can to mentor under lids. i know...he was a recent draft pick.....but... this kid oozes potential....reminds me of the good niedermeyer....not the retiree..duck niedermeyer mark this post. i will eat these words..if he busts. -
there he is ...in all his coolness....doing the voice of "ken" in the latest toy story 3. SPORTING A PENQUINS HAT! i am considering burning my copy of beetlejuice. damn it. i can handle mike myers in maple leaf gear...ok. i can handle belushi in blackhawk gear....ok i can even handle leary in bruins gear.... but not this. i am disappointed.
-
i personally think that ekman-larsson could be the CLOSEST to a replacement for lids. that kid looks stellar. check him out on the next phoenix game....PO-TEN-TIAL!

i am looking into making the move to New Zealand and was wondering if the NHL gets any coverage at all. i will suffer deep sorrow if the Wings via internet is my only source. please help. put my mind at ease.

he will get a warning about leaving the ice and elbow up towards face after impact. thats it. clean hit with ugly finish. legal. but definately ugly.

i don't know what possessed me to write these before each game....but i am. blame it on DEXTER and the episode with the comic "dark avenger" for those of you still wondering WTF? imagine a shadowy figure following the Wings across the season and keeping them out of "harms way" that's my reasoning and i am sticking to it. this is what i am talking about....

OUR MAD ASSASSIN, ON HIS LATEST QUEST GRUMBLY STEPS OFF THE PLANE...."WHY AM I HERE???" "DALLAS HUH? DOESNT SEEM SO BAD. WARM, SUNNY...JUST WHAT I NEED." AS HE APPROACHES THE BAR LOOKING FOR A RELAXANT...A TIGHT SHOULD CLIPS HIM AND CONTINUES ON. SHOCKED BY THIS RUDE GESTURE OUR "HERO" TAKES A QUICK CHECK BEHIND HIM TO REVEAL HIS ASSAILANT. A PORTLY FELLOW RUSHING THROUGH THE AIRPORT TERMINAL LOOKING FOR HIS "LIFE MATE" WEARING A BLACK AND GREEN SHIRT. "OTT" "NOW I REMEMBER." "GONNA NEED THE HEAVY ROUNDS TONIGHT" (i had to work late and missed putting in before the Colorado game, i am completely to blame for the loss.)

Wisniewski makes obscene gesture towards Avery

this just goes on to support my idea of uncensored NHL hockey on a "requested channel" that would rock! miked up benches....trash talking....unabashed interviews. yeah....sign me up. of course, i'm in dreamland about this. NEVER GONNA HAPPEN. -
AFTER WIPING UP THE ARTERIAL SPRAY FROM THE DUCKS OFF HIS CREST,....OUR "MAD ASSASSIN" CLIMBS UP TO THE TOP OF THE NEAREST BUILDING IN CHICAGO...AND TUNES IN HIS SCOPE TO ALLOW FOR WINDAGE..... "THIS ONE IS FOR NOT MEETING US IN THE PLAYOFFS LAST YEAR"...KA-CLICK.

COME ON BOYS!!!! DOUBLE TAP TO THE STERNUM .. ONE IN THE HEAD. TIME TO TAKE THIS SEASON LIKE A MAD ASSASSIN. GO WINGS!

i did the switch 5 years ago....i am in Albuquerque NM and dish had me missing all kinds of games. blackouts....and phoenix home games. ( they are 800 miles away...so of course, its my local team and i should go instead of watch) i missed approx. 20-25 games each year because of dish. then...if the wings played phoenix in the playoffs...i would have been playoff screwed. since direct tv came in....i have missed 1 game in 5 years. i recommend everyone that loves their team...do it. GO DIRECT TV

[this just in from PBS...Sidney Crosby has been reported to have pulled his pud and is expected to miss the next 3 minutes. doctors were baffled to the situation, not knowing he actually had one, but remain optimistic for a speedy recovery.]

ericsson drives me nuts.....has for 3 years. lilja, quincey, meech, lebda.....all better than ericsson in my book. he is my whipping boy until he earns his way out of it.

my take on a good fix.... 1. the first round pick goes to the first team not to make the playoffs. this ends the "tank" season that teams have been called out on....(you know who you are)this can also weed out bad management. 2. home grown talent cost 50% of actual. 1 mil. player cost 500k cap hit. 3. raise roster to 25. this allows teams to bring kids ready to experience NHL life on the road, bring injured players to game day practice and squeeze in a couple shifts. expand 4 more teams to the cities that show passion. winnipeg quebec hartford and torontoX2 this will lure more european stars over and allow the upcoming USA players places to find a home. ( the US is showing its training is pay off...we are drafting more american players than ever before.) imagine this.....zetty, dats, franzen, fil, I-fil, hudler, lids etc. all at half price. yeah....ok....they ( bettmans cronies) wont let that happen. never mind. my 2 cents.

step out of the box! Illitch #1 he is the one responsible for all this! i know...silly. right. right? well....hmmmm.

i stumbled on to this at the bottom of the page of mlive.com George Malik covering Ken Holland's take on the Olympics. http://www.michiganhumane.org/site/TR/Walk/MegaMarch2010?fr_id=1370&pg=personal&fr_id=1370&px=1943526 " Hi, I'm Patrick Eaves of the Detroit Red Wings. I came to Detroit to help win a championship – but I’m already a champion in the eyes of Rueben, my pet Newfoundland dog. At 130 pounds, he weighs as much as four Stanley Cups, but he’s nothing but a gentle giant. When he was a puppy, I used to bring him along to the Joe for practice, and my teammates soon got used to seeing this giant black dog in the halls and in the locker room. For me, he became the team’s unofficial mascot. But not all animals are as lucky as Rueben. Thousands of animals in the Detroit area every year go without a home, food, water or adequate shelter. They’re scared, hungry and alone and deserve a chance for a better life. That’s why I’m walking in the 5th annual Mega March for Animals at Hart Plaza in Detroit on Sunday, October 3. The Mega March for Animals is the largest walk for animals in Michigan and the funds raised help the Michigan Humane Society care for more than 100,000 animals each year. On average, it costs MHS $120 to transform the life of an animal in need, and they need your support today. With no state or federal funding, and no affiliation with any national humane organizations, it is solely the support of the community and people like you that keeps the organization going. Please take a moment and join this effort to help improve the lives of animals in need. With your support, we can help MHS find new, loving homes for animals that are hungry, abused, scared and neglected. Click the green button on the right hand side of the page to make a donation, or to join my Mega March team! If you know the Red Wings, you know that we don’t settle for anything less than first place – so let’s make sure that our team is the largest on Mega March day! Reuben and I thank you for your support!" Please continue to visit this page to check on my progress. Use the "Share" button below to bookmark this page or to share this page on your Facebook, MySpace, Twitter or other social media site. beyond being a red wings fan at heart...i am also a huge fan of animals and i applaud him on his efforts!

i guess i am on the fence with this....i grew up watching probert beat some wholesale ass for stevie and the gang....but chelios has given a decade and his loyalties to detroit. so if the #24 goes up in the rafters...who do you think should it be?

this year seems to have a plethora of skilled players available, yet no one is signing them....do you guys think that this is because of the higher rate of young, able players being drafted/inserted into lineups for basement contracts, or is it the imposed salary cap structures that the lower teams are keeping that prevents the mid line players from getting picked up? or are the top level players just grabbing too much cash and strapping the team to the bargain bin player for the bottom 2 lines? so, would the addition of 1-2 teams keep talent in the line ups across the league, or risk diluting the quality on ice product? i for one think that another team in an ESTABLISHED market would help keep the players from heading to Russia, or consider retiring/minor league play. for example...Stempniak and Afinogenov....both qualified players that could suit up for any team...but aren't signed yet. they don't want 6 mil. but they wont play for 750K. so where do they go? Hartford....Toronto x2...Quebec....Las Vegas...New Orleans...Hamilton? i used to think that expansion just dilutes the quality of the NHL....but i am now understanding that the US is putting out a lot more talent and will do so throughout the years. the NHL will lose the "high quality" standard that it is trying to keep if the next "ovechkin" says that the mid level quality has risen in Russia and has begun to balance the NHL product...why move across the pond. so, what does everyone else think...am i out in left field or is this a common feeling.

my personal fix for the league.... franchise bred players cost 50% of cap hit to salary...1 mil. player hits cap 500K #1 draft pick goes to first team NOT in playoffs. (this will drive the win every game theme and no one gets the "we suck" award of a prime time player. more across conference games... less inter division. shrink season to 70 games, spread out season ( non-hockey fans need time to digest the game before the next one) move Atlanta...Florida...Phoenix... open up shops in Vegas..Quebec/Toronto...Seattle....Winnipeg...Hartford divide the league north/south use the Bud Light advertising team to help market hockey faces in humorous commercials. latch on to Hollywood types that love hockey to help promote the sports passion. same for music, lots of musicians love the NHL but are quiet about it. lynch Bettman! Shanahan for commissioner! please get someone in the NHLPA that can keep the peace. fire mccrimmon and assign chelios to defensive coach. 1 mandatory mullet per team! (just checking if your still reading) that's my take on the world of hockey!

i agree 100% eva....i have always liked your insight. if the mid level players keep leaving...the NHL will loose its luster. 2 was the exact number i was thinking. but where oh where? hartford whalers las vegas gamblers ha!

if this went to "print" at 3 am today....where is the mention of ruslan salei and the probable departure of lilja? where is he coming up with us having money left to signing a scoring winger? confused....am i missing something?
-
if he still wants to play, enjoys a paycheck, and doesn't want to move, than why retire? he would be an idiot to just retire if he cant be "on" the wings. if i am still desired in my world....i keep going. take what you can get. f*** what the fans think. do what you need to do to be happy. go malts.... i enjoy the wings because of the loyalty, not despite it. the wings can't win the cup every year, but they can be considered the greatest franchise to play for every year, and that brings championships. loyalty is something our favorite team has nailed down...now why don't WE embrace that same mentality?
