I was at the game too. The third period was louder, more exciting, as pressure and fan supported as any game in recent memory. It was incredible (and it was my birthday!) The goal at the end of the second was huge. They came out in the third like an entirely new, driven team and I give them huge credit for the work they did to comeback. It reminded me just how good they can be. Thanks boys!

I really don't see Draper leaving after this year, he's been too good. Eaves is money and is the best of the lot. Mursak replaces Miller. Unfortunately Modano needs to go but probably wont. This.

No! It's my Bday present and my birthday! UK, fun and flightless bird embarrassment!

Whats your favorite "BAD" contract right now?
achildr1 replied to Rick Zombos Ghost's topic in General
DiPietro has to have the worst contract in the NHL. Honorary mention: Wade Redden Vincent Lecavalier Johan Franzen Brian Campbell Sheldon Souray Scott Gomez -
I know he got Brian Campell'ed, if there is such a thing. Seen that one live, Campbell probably still feels two inches taller from that hit.

Happy for you, JMac. Well done!

Agreed!

Helm is a beast. Think he's the second or third most exciting Wing? Datsyuk is #1 for sure, Kronwall when he hits is great, but Darren is most likely the fastest player on the ice at all time. And not Federov-like coasting fast, but working like he cares about his job, fast. Love it.

Why is Joey MacDonald not at least in the conversation to start more/in the playoffs? Ride the hot goalie, right? His numbers are better than Howard and Osgood's by a pretty respectable margin. He has quite a few huge saves and stellar games this year. I think Osgood should be essentially done for the year. With his numbers, injury, and lack of time to really get back into his much needed "groove", he really shouldn't be a serious playoff option. Howard is a crapshoot, although not bad, and almost certain to be the guy. That said, MacDonald has played quite a few games this year when we needed him and has played very well. He has at least earned the consideration, and shouldn't just be sent down as soon as Osgood is back. If Ozzy is done, I think JMac may have earned a long look as our backup for next year as well.

Unless its Osgood. Then were ok with near double the GAA and a career reputation for letting in weak goals...

Haha! I thought the same thing.

Bottom line: Leino was terrible with the Wings. Leino was lazy, small, and given nearly every opportunity to success here. He had the type of season Hudler had most of this year, but without the previous success and fierce comeback after 30 games. He was slow and wasn't physical. He looked out of place, disinterested, and brought practically nothing to the Wings. I'm surprised most of you guys are so vocally distrought, I'd like to see what Leino's reputation with most of LGW was at the time. With the intense Hudler bashing that went on this year, I can imagine Leino got ripped brutally and without remorse. Want to know who was better with the Wings, is about a 45-50 point player now, was homegrown, was released for nothing at all, and brings a better overall game to the table? Tomas Kopecky. Where's all the seething Kenny bashing for that? I would still rather have Kopecky than Leino, and I don't like either one of them. At least Kopecky will check, fight, and act like he cares here. Leino isn't good enough to play in our top six. If he was on our third line he probably wouldn't be a 60 point guy. He is essentially Hudler, but not as good, and probably has to play more minutes than Hudler to produce the same amount. Oh, Kenny and most other GM's in the league probably wouldn't trade Filpulla for Leino. For the 15 point drop, Fil brings a much better overall game to the table.

That was so rediculous, I can't believe those guys have jobs. Go do commentary for curling, I don't want to hear one more minute of that nonsense. That hit was clean, from directly in front of Letang, arms were chest level, and the hit was delivered within a second of him releasing the puck. Its near text-book. Sorry Pittsburgh, your 5'8" defenseman got buryed by a guy that isn't known for big hits on a clean check. Get over it.

Owners back Gary Bettman with 5-year contract extension
achildr1 replied to Barrie's topic in General
Reminds me of Matt Millen's extension. -
I will be celebrating my birthday, March 21st, at the game. Pretty stoked that we play the Pens, at home, on it. Go Wings! My question is, how many LGWer's will be attending also? Less importantly, yet to spark conversation that will make this thread worthwhile, what kind of game are you expecting? Edit: someone please change the date to 2011. I knew putting the year on there was dumb...
-
That's pretty intense man. We should tell the Wings so hopefully they'll show up for the game too.
-
Hahahaha! Hard to argue that logic. Well said.

I'm actually blown away by that whole opinion in itself. If anything, because we're Detroit, we don't get the calls (see SJ-DET rnd 2 last year). DMac and Osgood were very vocal about how terrible the officiating was when we played Pittsburgh in the finals. I love the Wings, but I know I will be honest about who's getting the calls. I even feel kind of lame for other teams when they get burned by bad officiating. But we get burned far more often (see Tomas Holmstrom) and I'm sure if we made a thread about certain situations where we got the short end of the stick, it would b quite a long one.

Seems like a pretty decent return for Klesla. Not that the BJ's should be trading defenseman tho... -

i'm going to guess if a guy like Conklin fell to the Wings spot in the waiver order and we didn't take that flier, we probably are sticking to what we have going into the playoffs. I'd be pretty suprised too, doesn't seem like a Kenny type thing to do. -

If thats true, we got hosed. @ two years it should have been less. Hopefully Osgood is gone next year and we somehow scam a backup for less or even to a mill. Edit: It's not terrible though, especially if Lidstrom is gone next year.... -

Slugs got a steal. Good for them. Gained a good player instead of losing one. They should be happy. -

So is it just me or isn't Boyes at least worth more than a 2nd rounder? Even marginally, like the 2nd and some underachieving 24 year old prospect? Boyes, with Ennis as his center, may really get back to putting some goals on the board. -

Just came to edit my post. BMac tweeted errbody but the children on the Oilers is available. I did read about the prices, but I'm going to imagine that one of them will be dealt tomorrow. My guess: Hemsky to LA. LA seems desperate for a top guy and are loaded with bait, even to overpay with. If your going to overpay, do it for a guy you get to have for a couple years. -

I'd say Hemsky, Penner, and Phillips are some bigger names.
