USA's blueline looks incredible. We could really compete with that team. I love the incredible diversity in player-types on that team. Lots of toughness to go song with all that skill.

I'm pretty he's been showing us that for 15 years, deadline deals or not. This is why you don't hand out 11 year contracts. Especially after you drafted that player when he was 24, had never consistantly scored at any level pre-nhl, and had only shown play worth his cap hit for a little over a season. I cringed when his contract was signed and I still don't like it. If Franzen is prone to be lazy, then its even worse. This guy KNOWS he has a job for the next 10 years, pretty much whether or not he lives up to the contract.

I'd say were deeper than the Nucks. Flyers got us beat though.

To quote the glowing wisdom of Garth Brooks..."Shameless! Shameless as a man can be...."

Ahahaha! Yes. Looking forward to incredibly biased officiating this spring! I'm kinda having a hard time wrapping my head around that we've started a Homlstrom hate thread already.

2011 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 28th, 3:00 PM ET

I hate seeing the Pens win a deal. Pens win this deal simply on the basis of trading from depth to get something they didn't have and desperately needed in a scoring winger.l -
You might be onto something... Explains the Nabby scenario a bit better too.
-
Yep, could of saved us a thread...
-
Sure, more than happy to share them. Who didn't see this coming? Holland tried for Nabby for a reason. Not only has Osgood been less than stellar for some time now, he's also got an injury that sounded (from when we first heard about it) like it may last longer than expected. Holland, all his Osgood man-love aside, isn't the type to go into the playoffs with a shaky sophomore and a career 3rd stringer as his goalies. I have said, ever since Osgood went down, that if we get anything in a trade this year it will probably be a goaltender. Osgood may be done with his career. (and if he is, that little video montage during the Bruins game will have served as a nice sendoff) That leaves us, at least, looking for a veteran backup. If Joey beats that guy out for the backup spot, so be it. But I don't see Kenny standing pat without creating some competition to raise the play of whatever goaltender we'll start in the playoffs.

Yea, I can't justify paying 2 mil for him. Until he uses his size to his advantage its seems he'll stay the bottom pairing guy that he is.
-
I'm pretty surprised by the Av's deals. I'm trying to wrap my had around a couple things: 1. How could/would you not get more (or at least something more useful) for Craig Anderson? 2. Besides getting the first round pick over your secound rounder, how is Erik Johnson worth more than Stewart and Shattenkirk? Unless Johnson became a legit #1 d-man, this trade is suspect at best. Why McClement?
-
ENORMOUS trade. MASSIVE. Will have a GIGANTIC influence on the Bolts. I apologize.
-
I'm pretty surprised myself. A sixth rounder is usually a way to basically give someone away. I mean, AHL'ers probably could get a sixth from teams. Ruutu is a veteran sandpaper guy with experiance. Seems lopsided.
-
My only problem is having Homer on that third line. Homer is obviously a player that needs high skill level guys around him to maximize his point potential, those guys aren't going provide that support. I'd put him on that first line move Bert to the 2nd and Hudler to wherever.
-
I'm aware. Thought that putting that in there would ruin the innocent fun but what do I know?
-
Steve? He's been gone for years...
-
The Isle's, Barnum & Josh Bailey's. The Laughs are a mess to be certain, but definetly not as messy. At least Burke has been a reletively compitant GM before. And I wonder how much ownership pushes him around too.
-
Wow. I really thought he'd last longer even if it wasn't going perfect. He plays well, then retires. Whatever though, happy trails!
-
This guy may be the hardest worker on the team. I am blown away by how well he's playing. He could be 27 years old and there wouldn't be a difference. Its a lot of fun to watch and my hats off to him. If I were Kenny, knowing how Kenny runs the Wings, Draper would be back next year and Emmerton would be traded at the deadline.
-
I would take Pronger in a heartbeat. I've grown up watching this guy being on of the only true 'franchise' defenseman whereever he goes. I mean seriously, he went to Edmonton for one year and they get a game from winning the Cup. I would be ecstatic if we traded for him today. One of the only real downsides is the contract length.
-
Lmbo, Agreed!
-
Anyone else going to the game? I know me and one other LGW'er so far will be...
-
There was some rampant craziness during this game but Martin's cheapshot was almost a mirror image of Bert's big mistake. Imagine being Bert and seeing this, just because the Pen didn't fall and essentially break his neck, Martin will live life like nothing happened while Bert is forever scarred by his situation. Gillies is a tool. That showing was disgraceful at best.

http://redwingscentral.com/stories/2011_02/09_MidSeasonRanking.php Pulkkinen and Jarnkrok make big leaps, which we figured. Pete Mrazek starting to climb up the ladder closer to McCullom. Overall, I'm super impressed with our prospects. I think its the deepest I've ever seen it. That said, why do we strike out so bad in the first round? Kindl, McCullom, essentially Ferraro, and Sheahan are unimpressive at best and easily outclassed by ouur later picks.

Can't understimate Forsberg, even at 70%. I'd take him on the Wings to replace Modano's spot in an instant.
