Look who's top in GR scoring

How about Callahan Glendening Miller. (I think Tootoo's traded)
  3. http://nypost.com/2014/01/06/sather-must-decide-is-dealing-girardi-best-for-rangers/ Larry Brooks seems to think the asking price for Girardi is TWO A-Level Prospects and a pick. Boston being first on the list of Sather's "to call list." Followed by Ducks, Kings, and Sharks. The rest of the article suggests that the Rangers may have problems signing both Girardi and Callahan (even going so far to suggest that they trade Callahan!!) this off-season and that losing one and gaining the picks and prospects would be better than standing pat with both of these players -- "which for years generally has been somewhere between sixth and ninth in the East." The bolded quote is seemingly is our future too, except where the Rangers may need prospects and picks to clean up the mess that is their roster, I think we need a couple of sure-fire, high end talents (at least one top end defenseman) to round out the roster so we're not a middling team for years to come. EDIT: Rangers only have 10 roster players signed for next year. Sather's got his work cut out for him. 6 RFAs. Along with Callahan and Girardi; Boyle and Pouliot are also UFA.

Kyle Quincey/Brendan Smith or Ian White/Carlo Colaiacovo

I think the question is posed more as: "While not without problems, isn't Quincey/Smith much easier to digest than the massive mess White/Cola would be?" I didn't necessarily take it as further criticism of Q or Smith, but rather which paring would you prefer on the team?

Another 'Would You Make This Trade?' Thread

If Miller is an older version of Howard why are we trading for him? I wouldn't trade for Miller. He'd be an upgrade in net but I think he's unnecessary. ...and if you want Moulson, you just wait until trade deadline when Buffalo realizes he isn't going to re-sign there and you get him for a steal. ...or you wait for the off-season and sign him for nothing.

It's time - to predict 2014 Team USA

I'm sure they're regretting it big time. From the get-go, Burnside was probably drooling at the prospects of uncovering and printing some controversial info. from these meetings while Poile and Co. were too busy patting themselves on the back for giving the nation a glimpse inside the selection process for the team to realize the possible consequences.

It's time - to predict 2014 Team USA

No surprise with the back-peddling/apologies by both camps. Injuries may lead to Team USA needing Ryan to be on the team... and well, Ryan wants to be on the team... so hugging it out is in order.

    USA vs Canada woman's fight

I'm not sure thisis going to help the discussion at all... But if there was less clothing involved most of these posts would've tuned to a different key. AMIRITE?! * winkwinknudgenudgesaynomoresaynomore* FFS! Let's recognize that with or without helmets, and skill of fighting be damned... There's a lot of bad blood between these two teams and THAT is what fights in hockey ARE ABOUT, no?

Shawn Thornton attacks Orpik (leaves game on stretcher)

Intentional knee to the head doesn't warrant five games? Repeat offender or not? It makes the league look like a joke. If the league REALLY wants to get the number of concussions down, they need to stop looking at injury or non-injury on a play as a factor in suspensions and take things like a knee to a head seriously.

Shawn Thornton attacks Orpik (leaves game on stretcher)

I hate the idea of this 18 month "Oh you've been a good boy, we'll clean your slate." nonsense. In my opinion, to say that it shouldn't factor is bologna. Yeah, I edited that post to ensure that no one thought I was hoping or wanting Marchand to be stretchered off. Neal's knee was just as reckless and disgusting as Thorton's actions. Also, love Neal's dodging of the question on hitting Marchand.

Shawn Thornton attacks Orpik (leaves game on stretcher)

“Though he is not a repeat offender under terms of the CBA (collective bargaining agreement), we cannot ignore the fact that Neal has previously been fined once and suspended twice in his six-year NHL career,” The CBA says he's not a repeat offender. Shanny doesn't ignore the fact that he's been suspended and fined before. Neal's last suspension was April 2012... he's cleared that 18 month window. National Hockey League Collective Bargaining Agreement Factors In Determining Supplementary DisciplineIn deciding on supplementary discipline, the following factorswill be taken into account: a) The type of conduct involved: conduct outside of NHLrules; excessive force in contact otherwise permitted by NHLrules; and careless or accidental conduct. Players areresponsible for the consequences of their actions. b) Injury to the opposing player(s) involved in theincident. c) The status of the offender, and specifically whether heis a first time or repeat offender. Players who repeatedlyviolate NHL rules will be more severely punished for eachviolation. d) The situation of the game in which the incidentoccurred: late in the game, lopsided score, prior events in thegame. e) Such other factors as may be appropriate in thecircumstances. As sick as it is.. if Marchand had been stretchered off, maybe Neal probably would have gotten more.

Shawn Thornton attacks Orpik (leaves game on stretcher)

This. The Eriksson hit is way early in the game 19:39 to be exact. First shift of the game! No time stamp, but later in the period Thorton tries to get Orpik to fight. Orpik declines. This is probably where Thorton should have just left it alone, but he's stewing not calming down. Neal's knee happens at 8:59. Which stirs the pot some more. Thorton then sees Campbell and Orpik jawing at each other. He decides he needs to help out his teammates and his punches follow. Don't know what he was thinking when he decided to knock Orpik down to the ice and follow up with some gloved punches. I'll disagree with you slightly Kip... I think he was too emotional, pissed off, and lost his cool... because he'd been thinking about it since the first shift of the game. Like you said, for 10 minutes! It doesn't justify his actions in anyway. It just makes his behavior all the more ridiculous. Furthermore, I don't buy his tearful "not my intention" apology. It was his intention to punch Orpik. Maybe he didn't want him to be carted off on a stretcher, but he wanted to punish him with his fists. DIsgusting. All around.

    Ugly Christmas Sweater.

Buffa-slug?! Yesteryear?! Have you seen the new atrocious thirds Buffalo just unveiled?!! YIKES!
  20. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have O'Reily or Ryan or both... but I still don't think those moves were realistic then and neither of those players are likely going anywhere this trade deadline or off-season.
  21. O'Reilly was never on the trading block. The Avs always wanted him back it just took a certain Flames GM to force some hands. Even if they were looking to trade him... we couldn't get Colorado to trade us Quincy without us resorting to a three-way deal with Tampa... need I expound on the idea of them trading us a 2nd line power-forward type? While Ryan certainly would have been nice, he cost the Senators; Stefan Noesen - a first round pick in 2011, Jakob Silferberg - a 2nd round pick in 2009 and a top prospect getting NHL minutes, and an additional first round pick. My guess is Ottawa wanted either Tatar, Nyquist, or both in a trade for Ryan and that's why those discussions went nowhere fast. Alfie and Weiss cost us nothing in the way of picks or prospects. SIx players for $18 million is 3 per. Two players for $10 million is 5 per. I think the jury is still out on our team and the lines... so... I'm not looking back on these non-moves by Holland as anything but things that were never meant to be.

True. I thought the roster expanded closer to the playoffs, but you are correct!
