Ha. This move is such a head-scratcher to me. Sure, Bryz can play out of his mind (literally) good hockey, but he can also play some pretty terrible hockey if he loses it. He'll have absolutely no defense in front of him and will probably have his first melt down 8-10 games played with the Oil.

I turned this game on just as Abs took the penalty in the third. I wish I hadn't even bothered because everything I saw from that point on was complete garbage play by the Wings. Time to read the GDT and see what other crap I missed.
-
I think you are being a bit negative... I mean, if you're talking never ever ever seeing him again. I think it highly unlikely he will be traded. He seems to be mired in the same situation that Tatar was in last year. (Only a couple games of waiver exemption left/Needs and deserves to be up with the Wings/No room at the inn) ...but I think to say that we're going to see him before the playoffs (barring the aforementioned season ending injury to a current roster player or unlikely trade of some spare parts) is quite optimistic. Patience grasshopper, the year of Nyquist is 2014. This would be great, but it's going to take some REAL WORK by Mr. Ken Holland for that to happen.

This is not surprising to me at all. GMs around the league are probably aware of our roster/cap crunch and aren't going to be willing to make a trade for a guy they might have before when they can probably just grab that player up off of waivers. Especially when it's still so early in the season and teams just aren't that desperate yet. RETAINED SALARY TRANSACTIONS Teams can retain a percentage of a contract’s remaining cap hit, salary and bonuses in trades. The following stipulations apply: No more than 50 per cent of the salary/cap hit can be retained Salary/cap hit cannot be retained on more than three contracts in one season The aggregate cap hits retained cannot exceed 15 per cent of the upper limit A contract can be traded only twice where salary/cap hit is retained I believe, but am not positive, that you can keep salary without keeping cap hit, but I'm not sure that such a case exists at this point. So cannot be sure. I thought that Vanek was an example of this but it looks as if Buffalo has kept a certain amount of his cap space on their books. Doing the math now to check. EDIT: After doing the math I find that there's a difference of +$684,877 when including both Pominville and Vanek's Retained Salary Transactions. Meaning their Cap Payroll really should be: 57,642,024. If you don't include those transactions you've got a number that's way off of CapGeek's number. So it looks as if both Salary and Cap Hit were retained on these transactions, but as I'm no Cap Expert... I can't for the life of me make up that difference. Maybe I goofed on some number somewhere, but I have to go to work so can't double check my addition.

I'd prefer to trade Mrazek, a 1st, and some expiring contracts to the Isle for Vanek if you could get an extension signed immediately. (Of course you probably can't make it work with cap-space)
-
Buffalo will probably try to swap him out for picks/prospects at the deadline and might be willing to take on a player with an expiring contract... but the original offer of 1st AND 2nd round picks, players and prospects seems quite steep for Moulson. Unless you can extend him immediately he's not worth it. Additionally, Stormy's right in that he's the type of player that can probably get up to $6 million on the open market, so you're talking about big money to keep Moulson. If I'm going after a player at the deadline that was involved in this deal between BUF and NYI... it's still Vanek. If the Islanders are out of the playoff picture and/or they know Vanek isn't going to resign then they may be looking to get something back.

The in-person hearing means it *could* be five or more. I believe if the suspension is going to be longer than 5 there HAS to be an in-person hearing, but it doesn't necessarily mean McLeod WILL get 5 or more. Shanny and crew may ultimately decide that the hit doesn't warrant that long of a suspension. I think he'll get 5.

Glad to hear that Kronner isn't hurt that badly. Still hope the DoPS throws the book at McLeod. If Kronner has to sit out a few games for precautionary reasons... I guess we'll see what Smith can do when asked to step up.
-
Awww man, that sucks.
-
Great to see the boys fight off the loss of Kronner, an all around horrible second period, and come away with a win. Admittedly, I feel they've beat a team tonight that -- while no doubt are talented -- have been punching above their weight class. Also nice to see Roy NOT get that record. Hopefully McLeod gets a nice sized suspension and Kronwall makes it back sooner than later. Kudos to Miller for standing up for himself, but MAN, he really shouldn't be fighting.

Scott's perception of the Tropp/Devane fight is a little off there... which isn't all that surprising given that Scott's role as a hockey player is little more than PUNCH, PUNCH, PUNCH. ...but even big dummies can tell the difference between someone falling and someone's head being "driven" into the ice, no? On the other side of the coin, if Kessel's gonna chirp... have at it John Boy.
-
He said he was putting them out to let Buffalo know that there wasn't going to be any more trouble after the Davane/Tropp fight. Carlyle's way of diffusing the situation? Anyway, Davane and Tropp looked like wiling combatants, just unfortunate that Tropp hit his head on the ice. No reason to send out Scott to "equalize."

I just spit my beer all over my computer screen!!

Is that different than what their usual fan base makes them look?

...and so when Shultz, Dubnyk, or Yak needs a contract, I'm guessing it's around $6million, huh? Better hope that salary cap goes up quickly there EDM. -
^^ Woot-WOOOOTTT!

Signed Cleary re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $1.75m deal
e_prime replied to wingedominance13's topic in General
I'm okay with the CAN line. -
If we didn't have such a problem with roster space as it is... I'd say Offer Sheet. (Not that Kenny Holland ever would)
-
Y'all realize that if asked Cleary would waive that NTC in a heartbeat to come back to Detroit, right? Scary jokes aside, I think I will miss Dan Cleary. He left everything out on the ice every night, and even it was time for him to move along, I'll miss him. I certainly don't know what Philly is thinking with this contract. Too much for too long.
