Good Lord Chairman, you're taking this so well.

I LoLed. (but certainly not at your expense Chairman)

The saga continues: In an interview with NHL Live!, Burke denied a CSNNE.com report which said Kaberle was headed to the Boston Bruins in a package that would involve Blake Wheeler and a draft pick. "If we found something that was attractive and went back to the agent, Tomas might be receptive to that, but that's far from clear or far from done," said Burke, who reiterated that he would honor Kaberle's no-trade clause. Burke also denied reports Boston is the only team to which Kaberle would accept a trade. "I wouldn't accept those terms, that's not fair to us," Burke said. "That's not true that the deal is done with Boston. ... We continue to talk to multiple teams and we'll see where it goes." Burke said he would go to Kaberle with a deal once he had a serious offer to consider, but that scenario hasn't happened yet. http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nhl/news/story?id=6132795

Um. I was certainly NOT talking about this year.
-
If Burke can pull off moving Lebda, I'd give the guy a lot more credit that I have in the past. (Still shake my head over the fact that he was signed in the first place.) That being said, I don't think VAN is *that* desperate.

Don't be sad... it might only be for a few months anyway. Kaberle is a free agent and depending on our Defensemen and their retirement plans... or not. You could still see him in a Wings uni.
-
Was just going to post that link! Makes sense. Wheeler and pick to Toronto for Kaberle. Stuart to Chi for a pick. Frees up the cap space needed. They upgrade their puck movement. That pick won't be to high going to TOR. Stuart is expendable and the pick they get probably makes up for the one they give away. EXCEPT: Blackhawks can't afford Stuart. Couple players will have to go back down.

Well, who knows, Brad was a healthy scratch last night...

Holland will talk with other GMs and see what's out there, but if I had to put money on it... I'd say: Nope. He won't.

The idea that Martin's hit was anything like Bert's is ridiculous. Not EVEN close. Pulled Talbot down by dumping him on his ass as he was turtling. Four games appropriate. Gilles hit was pretty nasty. Hit him up high then punching him as he is obviously stunned/hurt. Then continued to chirp him as he was laying on the ice. Nine games is pretty heavy, but it makes the point. Godard coming off the bench is an automatic suspension. Good to see the league hand this out. I understand the idea of protecting your goaltender, but Johnson is ready to go... The mugging by Johnson and Godard on Hillen... cripes, I'd love to have Hillen on my team.

Versteeg's gotta be a happy camper.

You know, say what you will about the fighting and what was classy or not, but the Isles have been walked on all season long. They stood up for the perception of Johnson and Fleury laughing at the DiPietro situation. (as laughable as it was...) They took exception to the hit on Comeau. Not to mention they scored 9 goals and their rook looked pretty good in net (2 goals given up on 5 minute majors) Three of their players went to 20+ goals last night. Right or wrong, this team stood up for themselves last night, put on a show, and made the Penguins look like the foolish ones.
-
He gets a goal, a roughing penalty, three fights, and two game misconducts. As far as Konopka goes, wasn't on the ice when most of the "action" took place, but at least he knows he needs to stay on the bench when things get scrappy.
-
I just can't believe Hailey. Fought Talbot. Took him down. Went straight after Johnson.
-
Well if he has, it ain't working. Might need to speak a little louder next time.

DiPietro Buyout Info: (IF he was to be bought out this year) Rick DiPietro is 29 years old on the buyout date of June 15, 2011, putting the total buyout cost at $30,000,000 spread over 20 years. His contract was originally valued at $67,500,000 with an annual cap hit of $4,500,000 beginning in 2006 and ending in 2021. The following is a season-by-season breakdown of the buyout. Through 20-21, the Isles save themselves $3 million in capspace from his original 4.5 million cap hit, spending $1.5 million in cap monies on DP. From 21-31, the continue to have a $1.5 million cap hit on the books RICK DIPIETRO BUYOUT FROM CAPGEEK.COM 2011-2012: $1,500,000 2012-2013: $1,500,000 2013-2014: $1,500,000 2014-2015: $1,500,000 2015-2016: $1,500,000 2016-2017: $1,500,000 2017-2018: $1,500,000 2018-2019: $1,500,000 2019-2020: $1,500,000 2020-2021: $1,500,000 2021-2022: $1,500,000 2022-2023: $1,500,000 2023-2024: $1,500,000 2024-2025: $1,500,000 2025-2026: $1,500,000 2026-2027: $1,500,000 2027-2028: $1,500,000 2028-2029: $1,500,000 2029-2030: $1,500,000 2030-2031: $1,500,000 -
Rick DiPietro out 4-6 weeks with broken face.

A couple of tidbits from TSN analysts. Barnaby doesn't think DP will finish out the contract, but he will still be in the NHL in s few years Meaning what? The Isles will buy him out too. I can't imagine the number on that. There is no way to restructure that contract is there? On That's Hockey they broke down the numbers. DP's started only 16% of games in the last three seasons. 34 of 215 games. He's been paid $11,790,000 or $346,765/start. Hell, if the Isle can get Nabby to start two games, he's already a better value than Ricky. -
I think the fan is just pissed because he didn't realize he'd be paying for seats with a partially obstructed view.

A couple things: When I first read this topic title, this popped into my head: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEzifwSzNDg Second, I think it was three years ago I made the suggestion, to no one in particular, that DiPietro should retire. The guy has been nothing but a nuisance to the Islanders. HE CANNOT STAY HEALTHY. And this injury was just stupid on DiPietro's part. The Isles need to waive him, put him in the minors, leave him there, and move on. Third, If Snow's serious about not subjecting Poulin to the pressures of carrying the team full-time, he's gotta do something in goal NOW. He's gonna be begging Nabokov to report. ...and finally, if only he knew yesterday what he knows today, he might have snapped up Smith. -
Nice hit by Ovie. Too bad Suban couldn't take it. Poor follow-up.
-
Sometimes it's necessary to point out the obvious because people miss it. Will he waive it for any team? No. Does he want to sit around, collect dust, and not get paid? No. It's obvious that Nabokov is going to waive his NMC if a good deal comes along... as he obviously doesn't want to play for the Islanders.
-
:rotflmao: No doubt he did. Kessel is the epitome of the truffle shuffle.
-
 To the sentiment, but to drive the point home even further... They did? Anyway... does it matter? The Pro-Bowl is like the "shoulda-been-there" rather than an ASG... so no matter that date, what difference does it make? Oh right, it's in Hawaii. Woo! Like any of those guys can't afford a trip to Hawaii?
-
You know, people can say how "awesome" or "ridiculous" this whole debacle was, but in the end you have to look at it this way: The NHL took a step outside of the box and this draft looks how a lot of people think about sports outside of their favorite teams. They allowed the players to pick in the way "we" might... a fantasy draft I think it's a great concept and we'll be looking at Staal's homerism over Nick's Defenseman/Center picking system for a while. It's a nice change of pace. I mean what did the NFL do this year? Move the Pro-Bowl to pre-superbowl weekend? What's the NBA doing? MLB?? Yeah. Not much. Certainly you can think it's grasping at straws if you want to, but everyone knows the ASG is nothing more than a show for half-assed friends (what?? I meant fans) and corporate sponsors... at least make it fun for the guys that have to show up... and for the guys that are picked last. (give tubby a goddamned car) EDIT: edits in bold. for clarity.

This. Either that, or as mentioned before, go down with a "mystery injury"
