...or "Favre time". I can deal with it no matter the decision. If he gets 7 million. I think it's worth it. We get back our superstar defenseman for a year and if he retires the following year we've got 7 million to work with to put pieces together to fill the void. If he takes less, it could be nice because we'll have some money to work with. Hopefully, Holland brings in a piece or two from outside of the organization rather than giving current roster players substantial raises. I'd like him to see what happens when you've got a little cap room and you use it, rather than just standing pat or claiming that a healthy player, or a returning player is our key summer acquisition. Respectfully, I think Kenny needs to be wise and figure out what the next step is for our defense after Lids is gone. Raffi too, is not far behind in being out the door. When your number one and number two d-men are going to be gone in two season's time, it's really time to think about what the next step is here. I think Stuart and Kronwall are key pieces and Ericsson has potential, but there are some very big holes to fill in our top four sooner than later. Sign a decent d-man for a couple year term with the cap space you've got or will get from a Lidstrom discount or the fact that Drapes will be off the books next year. If it doesn't work, trade the player. I don't think I'm telling Ken Holland anything that he doesn't already know, I just hope he steps outside of his little box this summer and moving forward in regards to this team.

Hmmm... I know a couple of bad contracts that Chicago would love to hand off to Florida. I wonder if Tallon will be a willing trade partner.

Despite the fact that the hit wasn't "that bad," and while I'm sure that if there were an impartial judge or judges, there wouldn't necessarily be a suspension handed down. (Maybe a light fine, at best.) It still takes guts to make a statement like this and take a stand against reckless play. Calling out the league for it's inability to be impartial or unbalanced in it's ruling is to be commended. It's one of the things that is plaguing the league and holding it back from reaching it's potential.

I would argue that he was "generally a liability," and state it: He had some very good games, but he was an unproven rookie on a team that was inconsistent defensively. An excellent start to build upon next year. EDIT: quote formatting

Latendresse has certainly come into his own since being traded to the Wild, but hasn't work ethic and consistency issues been one of his major issues. Who says that those problems won't return? Additionally, Holland & Co. pull miracles off of the discard pile (whether it be projects - eg. Cleary, Miller, Eaves or late round draft picks), not give up future draft picks for big question marks. IF Holland were to tender an offer sheet to anyone I doubt it'd be this guy.

Agreed. I think the other thing that's being missed is that we have another goaltender on the payroll. Chris Osgood. (In what could be his final year?) I think the Wings need to do themselves a favor and play him more next year. At least give him a chance, which I don't think Babcock really did... Hey, with the way that Jimmy played, he really didn't need to. If Osgood is done, call up Larsson. So, we don't need Price. On top of all that, we have to remember that Price is an RFA. Holland doesn't do offer sheets, right? EDIT: Clarity

Svatos: ASSETS: Has a wealth of goal-scoring talent, especially due to a hard, accurate shot and quality finishing skills. Is confident in his abilities when handling the puck. FLAWS: Lacks size and strength, which hurts him especially in the corners. Injuries are also a constant concern, mainly due to his smallish frame and history of shoulder problems. Sounds like what we've already got in Hudler.

I don't doubt that Price can be a good goalie. I think he's slightly overrated, but here's the question... did the Montreal fans get to him or did he get inside his own head and cause his inconsistencies? Moving forward, will he be effective?

Ha. Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down" just came on the iTunes. How appropriate.
