    Scorers and Grinders still available

I like Grier... he's from Detroit. (He's on my list of "need'em/want'em/get'em") Nichol is a bit small, but his energy is great. Their downside is their reckless style of play, which makes them oft injuried.

    Alex Tanguay

yes, i feel even more awesome responding to this.... it ups my post count. so i can someday lose my "rookie" status. look at me go! wooooooo! right, i forgot... only people who have been around for ages can ask a mod to merge a thread. thanks for pointing that out. who feels good about themselves now?? oh wait, i've been here longer than you... *sheesh*

Who do we try for next?

Manipulation or not... I like your positivity.

Who do we try for next?

Mike Grier? Born in Detroit. ASSETS: Possesses tremendous defensive instincts. Is extremely strong in the corners. Has excellent hockey sense. Is willing to play through pain and a good leader. FLAWS: Is rather mediocre on offense. Isn't great at beating defenders one-on-one. His gung-ho style of play has led to several injuries. CAREER POTENTIAL: Checking line right-winger.

Who do we try for next?

It is possible that Lang may not make a full recovery from his injury. A ton of the names that are being tossed around could be interesting, but they could also be big flops I think it all comes down to price when it comes to a signing in the off-season. I'm not afraid of starting the season with some of the youngsters up with team. I know it's not something we're used to... but I think we better be prepared for it. Patience is going to key. Kenny can make a bigger splash at the trade-deadline when teams are more desperate to shed salary.

would Hossa stayed if we would have won the cup?

YES! INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW???!!!! LOL!

Kenny should save our cap space until the trade deadline

I know it's not Kenny's style, but it wouldn't be all that horrible if he signed Hudler or Sammy and eventually traded one or both of them. ...obvs. without Hossa, Huds and Sammy would get more ice-time. Show what they're made of, not that most can't already see... but with more ice-time they may prove their worth to the team, or value to other teams in future trades. I know that signing players and keeping them and being loyal to them is a great way to be trust within a franchise, but sometimes methinks that this loyalty borders on being detrimental to the team. If you know you want to move on, but the pieces aren't necessarily there for you... why is it wrong to keep what you've got for a little while longer and then move it when the time is right. I'm not saying that KH never makes trades, but when was the last time he traded someone that was a key or essential 2nd or 3rd line player.

would Hossa stayed if we would have won the cup?

What if... what if... what if... What if we could all let it go? (Hossa not signing with us.) The hypothetical nature of the original post is maddening to me and further frustrates those that would just like to MOVE ON. ...and just so I don't sound like a complete bitchy asshat. Heatley. No. He does not fit our style, into our cap situation without giving up big key pieces, and he's a headache. Just look at all the sh!t he's brought upon himself for the handling of his trade request. Thank you and NO.

What kind or Shape for Next Years FA market?

I'm really interested in what is going to happen with Lilja and his health status. This is one of the biggest question marks for the Wings this off season. If he never fights again, I'm fine with that... (cuz we all know how well that works for him ) I just want him to back for his size, checking, solid defense, and to ability to lie down and block shots like a champ. (Something we're sorely missing.) Just my opinions: 1. Lids will take a paycut to open up some space, if he decides to return. 2. Malts and Holmstrom will be done after this upcoming season 3. Lebda will be traded after camp. 4. We will hold onto Meech. He will probably be dealt at the trade deadline or next years draft. 5. Helm and Abdelkader will re:up at reasonable numbers.

    Trade for Laraque!

...and how is that a problem?? If Laraque wants to be a role-player and not only a fighter, which he has said that he wishes to be... you put him on that line and see what he can do... if it doesn't work/he doesn't mesh you trade him at/by the deadline or cut ties when his contract expires. You then have a physical and enforcer type presence this team has not felt in years! Having that intimidation factor alone is a winning situation for the Wings... even if Laraque doesn't get to fight much.

Lets offer Draper and Maltby 5 year contracts!

    Oh the hilarity!!

Gaborik signs with Rangers, 5 years x $7.5

Gaborik: Sure hope he stays healthy. This signing does not make the Rangers significantly "better." Philly, Calgary, Chicago, (Washington??): Sure, they look better on paper. Their roster looks better for next year, but all have handcuffed themselves against the cap to varying degrees. Detroit, NJ, SJ, Boston, Pitts: The only similarities they have as a whole is that none of them made any big flashy moves during the first couple days of free-agency. Standing pat and letting the GMs who feel the need to sign these players and make moves immediately is not the worst thing in the world.
  17. e_prime

Don't expect the Wings to make move today

Indeed Abdelkader was spelled right, but Kopecky was spelled wrong. ...and, infact I've spelled it wrong too. I think it's: M-O-S-T-L-Y B-R-O-K-E-N C-A-P S-U-C-K. PS: I'm still not freaking out.

    Secondary targets disappearing fast

"Sometimes the best move is no move. The slaries teams are handing out today are crazy. Good news is we'll actually have cap room and can make trades without shedding salary when the time comes." Seconded. "The Wings have NO cap room and plenty of good under $1 mil. players in GR. What's the point of signing a slightly better (for now) veteran for $1 mil.? There's no cap space for anybody good who'll be more expensive." Agreed. Maybe some folks around here need to realize that the season and playoffs are not decided on the first day of free agency, nor on trade-deadline day. Do you know your club? How has the majority of our success come over the years? Sure. Holland landed Hossa last year on the SECOND day of free-agency. Big whoop. ...but typically, it's not big name players that get thrown around every trade-deadline/free agency. Maybe some of LGW needs to look at the free agency charts and some player stats and think about someone who isn't going to handcuff our GM when things do matter in this, the salary cap era. Finally, for every complaint about how Malts, Homer, and Drapes offer nothing... look at Lieno, Helm, and Abdelkader. (...and even Ericcson if you want to point fingers at our defensive corp.) I expect that they will be taking up a lot more minutes during the regular season than you might imagine in previous years. And I, for one, do not think that this is a bad thing. *steps away from the megaphone*

Does anyone know of a Red Wings bar in Manhattan...

Croxley Ales sounds great! Heading there after work!! I'm tired of wandering around Brooklyn looking for a place that has more than two TVs... That's willing to keep that game on. (Which ain't gonna happen tonight because of Mets v. Yankees and 14 other interleague baseball games.)
  21. e_prime

How can anyone blame the Refs for any of the Wings' losses?

Quoted for truth. While yet another officiating thread is complete unnecessary... this OP rings true. Despite any officiating gaffs in any of these previous six games, the winner was determined by excellent play and sheer determination. Either side can cry about how this penalty cost momentum or how that penalty was missed and this one was called... but I think we're pretty much evened up at this point. It's a winner take all situation. Done. Finished. Fret all you like about the officiating and Crosby/Malkin, etc. It won't matter after Friday night.

    Refs favor Crosby Malkin

I hate this nonsense. Leave it to a Rags fan to come in here and start ANOTHER thread about officials. Yes, we know... they're inconsistent. AND We know a lot better than you because the Wings, unlike the Rags are still ******* playing. ...but there's no goddamned conspiracy in the NHL to have Crosby win a ******* cup... this is not the NBA. Idiocy! AND while I'm at it... a big middle finger to the ******* Yankees fans too. You whiny ass ******* had the bar that I was hanging at change the channel so you all could watch your team continue to LOSE in the sixth inning. They were already losing, they continued to lose, and eventually lost. Meanwhile, there was a pretty good hockey game going on and I had to go home to watch the third. :ranting:

    Bench Rafalski

Everyone acts like Ericsson is the second coming of Christ or something. Give the kid a break. How many times has he played in a Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals? Frustrations boiling over everywhere... and it's not healthy.

    Class and Hockey.

I think everyone has their panties in a bunch... Oh, there I go with the girly insinuations...must be mommy issues. because they don't like the way that Flinstone made his original post. (It seems that reading comprehension might be an issue.) I don't think Flinstone necessarily is trying to bait the types of reactions that he's getting, although I don't think he minds it too much. (...and it's mind boggling that people still CANNOT infer sarcasm into posts on the interwebs. Is it your first day here or something??) Here, however, is another level of this argument and hypocrisy within most hockey fans. And I'll break it down all nice and simple-like: How many times have you said, "I hate Getzlaf. He sucks! ...but I'd love to see him in a Wings jersey." ???
