The "rental thing" gets brought up because nobody wants us to trade for Karlsson without certainty. Usually, "rental" is a term that gets thrown out around the trade deadline because teams are looking for a quick-fix to put them over the top. "Rental" isn't usually term associated with trades made in the offseason because teams are planning not quick fixing or looking to move assets just for picks. In hockey, I'd love an example of a trade that surprised the player. I'm sure they exist but I can't think of a recent one that caused any major ripples in the landscape of how trades get done or how players or management acts concerning trades. As far as Karlsson goes... the GM can be as cool and keep the player as marketable as he possibly can. Doesn't mean good ole Eugene is going to do so. I still think the Wings should go after someone other than Karlsson.

Exactly! Sure, was Tatar really worth the picks given up? No, but it's not as if they're in want of draft picks. They're still rather flush, missing only their own 2019 7th rounder and the 2021 third rounder. They've got two extra 3rds and 5th in 2019 and 2 additional 2nd round picks in 2020.

…and yet they still have all their own 2019 picks aside from the seventh round + a Preds AND Jets 3rd rounder, and a MTL 5th rounder. …They seem pretty okay with the picks. Tatar is on Montreal and destined to light the lamp whenever he faces the Wings. Because as @Bolgar said, "Great management (not)." Patches was gone from Montreal. That was obvious. It'll be interesting to see if LVG can re-sign him. Also, how bad is this for Montreal. PK gone. Pacioretty gone. Two faces of that franchise. Who's next Carey Price?

Nah. I'm not entertaining any deal for Karlsson/Ryan that straight up involves GIVING them 1st or second round picks in the deal. Maybe, just maybe if it's a sign and trade. I'd consider swapping some picks depending on who we're sending along in the deal. ...but that benefits us anyway cuz the Sens gonna suck. I'm also unloading an albatross contract like Helm or Abdelkader and even entertain sending Dekeyser. The Sens are gonna need players under contract because they're not gonna be able to sign anyone with their ownership and player personnel woes. I'm not giving them Cholo or Svech. I don't how we entertain anything that truly benefits the Sens. Not when Karlsson is destined to hit the market WITHOUT Bobby Ryan tied to his previously injured Achilles.

The "noise, noise, noise" is all I hear when Jonas talks. ...and to give up that much for Karlsson and Bobby Ryan is just dumb. Let Karlsson hit free agency and grab him up without that anchor of Ryan in tow.
