Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

...because Toronto (fans) likes players with name recognition?

    TANK IT! 2014-2015 Season

...but can I be disappointed with it? I guess, I could show my disappointment by giving this thread only 1-star. ...but I think I'll reserve judgement until it plays out furtherzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (or a mod edits the Thread Title.)

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Is this a multi-part series that goes something along the lines of: Him "fighting his father, losing his hand," then "mastering the force," and finally, "defeating the dark-side/father/emperor?"

Report: Red WIngs interested in Franson

Agreed. Word on the streets is that he could go for a second round pick. I think I think the only way that Franson gets moved for only a second round pick is if absolutely no one bites on trading for him at the deadline... and I think there will be buyers for him that will drive the price up. I, like you Rick, think it's going to be at least a prospect and a 2nd rounder. ...and for us, it'll definitely be more expensive.

Quick to reject, but still willing to say he wants to stay. Oh, Cody. Yr gonna get paid.

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

It was under $5 million... for an undisclosed term... but if you were Franson would you sign with the Leafs? He says he wants to stay with them, but players say that ALL OF THE TIME. He's saying the right things because he's supposed to and that's what guys like him say. I don't think there's a chance in hell he gets traded here for only a second rounder. I just hope that the info. I dug up earlier is bunk. Either that or someone ponys up that 2nd round pick (or more) and then he signs elsewhere in the off-season. (Here.)

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

krsmith... you make a strong case, but I still would love to see Holland make a smart move at the deadline and not wait until Free Agency/Off Season to make a move on D. No overpayments for Myers, or Yandle. ...but SOMETHING! Even if it's just a Kindl for Petry swap. Get a RH D-man on the back-end. With Franson turning down a long term deal with the Leafs (It was reported they couldn't come to terms for a multi-year deal at 4.6 per season) that certainly does make it possible for him to be available to us ...and 28 other teams. I think Toronto will try very very hard to move Phaneuf and keep Franson though, He's been shouldering the weight on the defensive side with Dion out with injury. If Shanny and Co. are blowing up the Leafs, Franson is a guy they should be keeping around. kip... I agree, I don't think Green is going to get moved at the deadline for anything less than a kings ransom. I don't think Washington will re-sign him in the offseason though... I think with Green coming off the books, they'll be looking to finally make another big splashy move at Forward.

...but he's injury prone, and can't defend (although that's not what we need anyway) and not a rough-and-tough former Bruin. Also, we're not contenders... so there's no reason to go after him.

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

At least the Sabres have been scouting GR lately and might possibly understand that they're not getting high-end roster pieces for Myers. After some of kipwinger's comments on Myers, I've forced myself to look past his handedness and his big frame and to watch some Buffalo games and see what the kid is doing and it's not pretty. Not much of what the Sabres are doing is... but he's really shaky. I do think he would benefit from a change in scenery, but I'm not so high on him as I used to be. With any trade, it all comes down to price. I desire a trade, but I'm not calling for a clearing of the house. Yandle for Smith, Pulks, and a pick. In a heartbeat, but I think it might be more costly than that.

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

I'd just like to remind everyone that's suggesting that we stand pat at the deadline and try to sign a big name D-man in the off-season You mean the same way we had a chance at landing Suter in 2012... ...or whomever we coveted in 2013 (I certainly can't recall looking at the sad UFA list -- we were probably all clamoring for a trade.) ...or Niskanen or Ehrhoff or Boyle or Strahlman last year. Look. Certainly. We have a chance at Franson in free agency. ...or Green... or Ehrhoff (AGAIN) or Boychuk... and it won't cost us a thing other than cap-space. ...but we enter into that situation AGAIN where someone has a REAL chance of outbidding us with either term or dollars.,, and THEN we'll still have 8 NHL defensemen (I'm including the re-signed Smith and Lashoff -- he cleared right?) PLUS this new signing, PLUS all of our prospects that some of you are unwilling to part with for THE FUTURE through one side of your mouth, while admitting that many of them may not pan out as NHL regulars from the other. I'm just a trade *****, okay? I'm willing to admit it. I want a nice big juicy trade that makes this team look like they want to win NOW. For the fans, for the guys that are getting long in the tooth, for Free Agents that might sign here if only it seemed like we were looking to go all in. Trading some of these "maybe/maybe not" guys now is not going to hurt us SO BADLY down the road, because Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan, Dekeyser, Mrazek will be our new Pav, Z, Franzen, Kronwall, Howard. In Yandle and other coveted and not-so coveted D-man news: EDIT: lmao at all these (crack) pipe dreams of Oliver Ekman Larsson somehow landing in Detroit.

Marchenko recalled from GR... Ouellet sent down

While some of the other offers on this thread are overpayments. There's no way we're getting OEL for Smith, Jurco, and a first... that's an extremely weak offer. ...and then you pony up Ericsson. That kind of offer is the kind that gets you hung up on. Doan is their franchise player. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I don't imagine anyone in that organization thinking that Doan is in any way, shape, or form Yzerman-like other than he is the face of their franchise and someone they want in the organization. Doan probably loves Arizona and doesn't want to end up like Iginla -- former face of the Flames franchise. Hmmm. Marchenko = young Ericsson. Keep Marchenko and let's jettison Big Rig,

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Gorges is nothing like what we need. Chris Neil is not what we need... but I get it...the mythical, the immortal. DALLAS DRAKE. Look, I'm not going to try to say that he wasn't helpful, but lets not pretend that adding one gritty veteran is what puts a team over the top. How many times, with how many teams is a depth, veteran grit type player added to a team and it does NOTHING for them? More often than the adding of such player does. Plain and simple. So let's wash away the pretense of this idea. HATE THE DRAKE.

    Franzen on IR

so... lazy mule is always lazy, but especially when he's sitting on IR nursing a fake injury. Let me amend that: "So... you're willing to defend a lazy mule*, but not when he's sitting on IR nursing a fake injury?" *just noticed that you claim to defend Franzen, not that I'm going to go back into other threads to check for legitimacy of such claim. Look, I'm not trying to get all up on your case about this... and certainly there are players that are willing to play through pain and injury, and Franzen isn't that guy... but do you honestly believe that trainers, doctors, and Ken Holland would allow Franzen to just sit on IR because he wants to nurse the injury? Sure, they might let him sit there because they want to keep him on IR -- whether it be cap or chemistry issues, but I can't imagine you're going to let a guy like that, if healthy, to nurse his fake wounds. Offensive struggles or not.

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Agreed. ...and I'm glad that the team is doing so well of late without any trades. Honestly, I really didn't think they had it in them and truly thought this roster needed a shake up. Still pining for that RH-Offensive D-man, though...

For the umpteenth million time: IT'S NOT THAT MUCH MONEY. What happens: Players faking injuries? ...or concussions? Tell us how you really feel, and please, feel free to drag Samuelsson and his weak IR stints into the conversation too. ...or how about Weiss and all of his faking?
