Pens aquire David Perron from Oilers

Even with Shero not at the helm, the Pens are not afraid to make trades to fill winger needs for Crosby and Malkin. Good trade for them.

    12/31 GDT : Devils 1 at Red Wings 3

Well... now that we're all clear in the knowledge that wingsfan1991 thinks that Weiss is hot garbage... the rest of us can go back to discussing why exactly it is that Weiss is not getting appropriate ice time... I just don't get it. Weiss was brought in to be a 2C. He's back in game shape, fought off minor injuries since returning from a couple major ones... and now, with limited ice time, he's putting up points... but he's not elevated in the lineup What gives? Jurco's a rookie... put him on the fourth. He shouldn't mind. Helm and Abby are energy/banger guys, rotate them onto the fourth. They'll still be effective players. Instead... No... let's let a guy who's a proven top-six winger languish on the fourth line with limited ice time. Makes sense to me... EDIT: removal of troll baiting

I still don't understand our "interest" in Vermette. Do we really need another two-way second line C? We're not injury depleted like last year when we traded Eaves, a prospect and a pick for Legwand. This year is it Helm, Pulks, and a pick for Vermette? (Plucking names from the roster. Not a realistic representation of what I think it would take to get Vermette) Anyway you make the trade... I would certainly hope not. I didn't lose my s*** about the Legwand trade because I thought it was a necessary evil. This year it would be absolute idiocy! We're healthy *knock on wood* and we have plenty of depth at center. Vermette is going to be a super expensive rental. It would be costly to re-sign him. Which would certainly mean cap woes for re-signing Nyquist, Jurco, Smith, etc. No thank you! We need a right handed offensive minded D-man and, at the right price, a top-six right handed "scoring" winger. Oh wait, don't we have one of those, -- the right handed scoring winger -- down in GR. Admittedly, we don't know that Pulks will have an immediate impact at the NHL level...but if we trade him to Arizona we'll certainly never know.

Scott Gomez Pt. 2, huh? You realize that guy didn't score a goal for over a year. Did you decide to make 2015 the year of the troll? I would point you in the direction of previous years stats, injury history, TOI differences, etc. but I doubt it would have any effect on your selective vision nor change your mind...

    Are the Wings a Contender?

Cap hit doesn't matter much when you're talking about grabbing up a guy at the deadline. Anyway that you look at it, we should be fine, but which d-man goes back to NJ? Kindl? God. Can you imagine Scott Stevens coaching him... he'd probably turn into the beast we always hoped he be... LOL. Yeah, right... ...and to my previous comment. OLD is exactly what Holland looks for... so, yeah, that's pretty much a slam-dunk.

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Of the multitude of Centers that we have, which one is the most likely to be traded? Which has the greatest return value? Which the least? Not counting Franzen, as he is typically not a center. Including Weiss, Helm, and Andersson -- as they are known as centers who happen to be playing wing. Not including Z or Dats -- as they're obviously the most valuable to the team; would garner the most return, but will never be traded. Sheahan: (Hopefully) not likely to be traded, highest trade value (Youth + Two-Way-Play + Future Potential. He's a keeper. Even if he ends up just being a 3C and not a 2C) Weiss: Not easily trade-able, and still questionable value -- too early to tell whether any other team values him, as his health remains a question mark. (I think he could be traded and get good return, but the fact he's not getting a lot of ice time in Detroit, despite his offensive capabilities is a head-scratcher. Is he getting protected minutes? Does Babcock not trust him? Does Weiss have a future with this team?) Helm: Most likely to be traded, not huge trade value, but he is a solid third line center with top-6 winger capabilities. (He's the C, I'd trade first.) Glendenning: Not likely to be traded, not a lot of trade value (wouldn't want him to be traded) Andersson: Most likely traded solely as an add on, not a lot of trade value (would rather he be traded than waived -- he's the current roster's Emdog)

So now we're getting Yandle and Vermette from the 'Yotes? For Sheahan and what else? That'd be bordering on the biggest "hockey trade" we've seen in ages... and by we I mean, the Detroit Red Wings. Is Holland even capable of making a trade like that? Lines: Z centering Franzen and Nyquist Datsyuk centering Helm and Weiss Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco Miller - Glendennninining - Abs Kronwall - Smith Dekeyser - Quincey Ericsson - XO

...a bit off topic, but from that same Friedman piece: He was not selected the first year he was eligible to be drafted. Detroit took him a year later, 121st overall in 2008. Nyquist said the Red Wings were the only team ever to request an interview with him. That process is why he’s not comfortable saying he’s landed in the NHL for good. “I’ve taken a spot, but I never want to say I feel safe for a spot.”That's some humility right there.

For as much as Babs changes up the lines... you'd think he'd have made it off the fourth line. Is Eva still floating around these parts? ...or an official Flames fan now? The blind Hudler love was mindboggling.

    Oilers schedule presser tomorrow

In that I meant, they wouldn't know how to productively use another overall #1 draft pick. UNLESS: Daryl Katz removes his head from his ass and fires Kevin Lowe and MacT. New President and GM are hired and they promptly turn over most of the roster including former "untouchables" and some of their most recent draft picks that they've already "ruined." From there, send anyone they can... ANY PLAYER that hasn't accumulated too many games in the NHL, back down to the minors and let them develop properly. It's begun! Fraser claimed! THEY'RE PLAYOFF BOUND BABY

They need to come out with a stronger start. Establish good play in their own zone and break out effectively. None of this mamby-pamby sluggish start/no jump bulls*** from last game. LETS GO WINGS 2 - 1

    Oilers schedule presser tomorrow

Here's your current UFA Rental List from CapGeek (they remove any players that are likely staying with their teams because they're going to be in the playoffs) 1. Zidlicky 2. Sekera 3. Petry ...so no, not really. You would think... but I guess they're not desperate enough to make any moves.

    Oilers schedule presser tomorrow

I get that trading Helm allows us to bring up Pulks and that trading Q allows us to keep XO up, but I think that's a tad bit of an overpayment. Although that 2nd round pick would be quite nice the way EDM is trending.

    Oilers schedule presser tomorrow

Why not? They continue to struggle... MacT doesn't have the balls to trade Hall, or Eberle, or RNH... He doesn't even have the balls to trade Yak. Petry and Perron have been on the block all season and yet here they are still on the team. If he's desperate to keep his job... He'll move guys that don't want to be there for guys he can keep there... if not by choice, but by current contract. They are that desperate. Nine losses in a row. Their last win was Dec 7th. They haven't strung together a winning streak of any sort this year. The last time they won back to back games was all the way back to Nov 7th. A month at a time for a win. (...or if they're lucky two.) They need an upgrade of any sort at C behind RNH. Boyd Gordon isn't a second line center. Draisaitl is a frigging child. They need better D. Schultz is the lone bright spot. He needs help. They need better goaltending. How Bachman hasn't gotten a chance is beyond me... Have I stated clearly enough how desperate they should be? So let me restate the case for Kindl to EDM for Petry: Does Petry for Kindl straight up happen? Sure. Why not? MacT knows that Petry is not going to re-sign in Edmonton next year... he trades him for Kindl who's signed for another two years for a reasonable price... He's doing something... ANYTHING. It shows the league, "Hey, MacT is ready to make some moves... EDM is open for business." To make things even more clear, because I know it's the stumbling block for all of you: Just because Kindl is our whipping boy doesn't mean he's completely worthless. There. I said it. He isn't. Is he great? No, but he's just one piece in a multitude of issues that exist on our defense.

    Oilers schedule presser tomorrow

Oil fell to the Flames last night 4 - 1. Nine games and counting. MacT needs to make a trade -- whether he gets fair value or not -- or he's going to be the next domino to fall. I'd still take Petry off of their hands. Petry for Kindl straight up. Oilers get a D-man signed for two more years at a reasonable price, we get a righty who's looking to get out of EDM. Cheaper than Green or Meyers or Yandle or anyone else for that matter.
