NJ fires DeBoer. Scott Stevens & Adam Oates named coaches

Larsson has potential, but honestly, he hasn't even been given the chance. Like Myers, Larsson's best year was his rookie year where he posted the following stats: 2011-12 New Jersey NHL GP: 65 G: 2 A: 16 PTS: 18 +/-: -7 PIM: 20 PPG: 0 SHG: 0 GWG: 0 TOI: 20:37 SHOTS: 68 PPG: 0.28 Since then, in the NHL, he's had fewer games played, goals, assists, shots, ZERO PP goals -- of which we'd need from ANY RH d-man -- that we'd immediately plug into the PP just because of his handedness. He's had less time on ice, but averaging just as many PIM while his +/- is just slightly better. If that's potential... I'll keep Kindl, at least he's "established" and cheaper than your (Frank) established young D-man or those otherwise "unavailable" prime/established Top 4 D-man. I'm sure if someone wants to Corsi/Advance/Fancy stats up Larsson, you can tell me why he's worth it... but like Playmaker said earlier, we've got youth with potential. (Maybe not 4th overall pick potential... but we all know how that goes...) Sure, a trade for Larsson might be impactful, but it might be a negative impact. Especially if we're giving up futures. Wait. FFS... What did I just say about Kindl? EDIT: Sorry, ugly formatting from a table cut and paste.

Agreed. I don't think Larsson is the answer for us. While he's a righty, he's going to be too costly for the big question mark that he is... and let's not kid ourselves. He's a question mark.

What are you reading right now?

Two books I'd recommend, both by Michigan authors. Full disclosure, I know both of the authors... so I may be biased but they're both excellent reads: Songs Only You Know by Sean Madigan Hoen http://www.amazon.com/Songs-Only-You-Know-Memoir/dp/1616953365/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419686742&sr=8-1&keywords=sean+madigan+hoen The Ford Wyoming Drive-In: Cars, Candy, and Candoodling in the Motor City by Karen Dybis http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/162619548X/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

First, to be nit-picky, it's Larsson. Second, BOULTON (who I'm assuming you're talking about -- knowing your type) plays for the Islanders. There's no one even close to that misspelling on the Devils roster or in their system that I can find. Third... no Cam Janssen love, bro? Finally, Jagr in all of the jerseys!! Git'r'dun Kenny! EDIT: For the record, I do not wish to help NJ 'restock their cabinets' by trying to obtain Larsson. He's slated to be a great talent. He's playing on a team where he hasn't been trusted to play his style of game, but it's really hard to judge whether he's going to pan out or not. DeBoer didn't give him a lot of leeway and if they bring in another defense-first type coach, it's going to amount to the same for Larsson. He's a RFA making peanuts at this point. Even if they're going to tank for McDavid, which is certainly reasonable given their record and their numerous injuries at this point... Either way, I think the asking price for him is going to be way too high.

Where were team-mates on the Smith headshot

You? ...or GMR and F. Michael? Look. Don't get me wrong. I like to play both sides of the fence when it comes to the fisticuffs. Love 'em and Hate 'em. The whole Franzen quote above just spells out exactly what goes on with our team and it's attitude towards fighting. Sure, if Ericsson is on the ice things are a little different. If Smith is on the ice... a little different. ...but there's not enough difference on the roster to change the overall "fighting attitude" on the team. Holland has tried in the past to rectify this situation: Downey, Tootoo. McCarty. et al. It's just not a team philosophy/priority or a philospohy/priority as dictated by the head coach and the roster he puts on the ice. /truth. Boston creme and I'm in no matter the state it's in. #doughnuttruth

    Are the Wings a Contender?

Yes, because Nill is so willing to trade Seguin and the "other" Smith will be as good as a forward as Reilly is... and Really... we should be trading for O'Reilly. Not Seguin. Really. [insert MY Media]

12/21 GDT : Avalanche 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

OH!! GEMS!!! Yes, that's it. Absolutely. At least SOMEONE would have been there to avenge the Smith hit and the Nyquist crosscheck. AMIRITE?! Certain situations lead to other situations. Those situational plays can be rectified by working hard or handedness. Depending on the situation. A stroke book, as some might say... ...hmmm. Point reinforced. ...or ENFORCED. Does Joe Thornton like fighting in the game?

Get rid of these "awesome" defensive defensemen we've got and trade for an offensive one. You know, a guy that'll flip the bird to jeering fans. Fart in microphones during post-game media scrums. ....at least it would be fun and interesting.

    Lines Thread

I think Franzen did last night after that cross-check to the back. At least that's what his screams translated to. "Ow, that space above the pants but below the shoulder pads."

12/21 GDT : Avalanche 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

I turned the channel as soon as that late call was made. Normally, I (w)couldn't turn away from the burning car wreck that is the Detroit Red Wings in third period pressure situations. Tonight I did. Knew where it was going. ...and it did. Frustrating. Win-less in 6. Only Calgary and Edmonton have longer win-less streaks going. Say what you will about at least getting a point from these games, but we're clinging to third in the Atlantic with what amounts to a .500 record. Contender? Need a trade? Lines? These threads are going to see a lot of action.

You have every right to complain about it... it's just been done ad naseum. I feel like I need to do some research on known "floaters" "streaky" around the league and get back to you on their cap hit vs. laziness levels/streakiness to give you something to *really* think about... Franzen vs Just some names off the top of my head in the meantime Franzen (3.955 million dollar cap hit -- let's go crazy and call it 4 miilion) 6 goals 13 assists in 25 games -- signed thru 19-20 Alexander Semin (7 million dollar cap hit) 1 goal. 5 assists in 21 games -- signed thru 17-18 Bobby Ryan (7.25 million dollar cap hit) 7 goals 12 assists in 28 games -- signed thru 21-22 Joffrey Lupul (5.25 million dollar cap hit) 7goals 5 assists in 20 games -- signed thru 17-18 ...and yes. Me, #9, and the Mule hang out all the time when the Wings play in NYC. ...and he totally laughs when we call him out for his laziness. He still pays for drinks too.

So we should have scratched Franzen in favor of everybody's other favorite... Danny Cleary. Totally would have won the game with Clears in. He's got no knees... BUT HE'S GOT HEART!! SOMETHING FRANZEN NEVER HAD!!
