Soooo... anyone not named Larkin or Z that's making over $3.5 million? Is that the common denominator?

...but you've still got to wrestle those players away from re-signing with their current team. Will the Blues be ready to move on from Pietrangelo? Would Pietrangelo want to sign here with our current situation? If you trade Green and/or Daley at the deadline this year, you're opening up yourself even more opportunities to snag a good player of Pietrangelo's calibre. The Tyler Myers', Anton Strahlman's (just examples) ...again... getting them to sign here will probably be a challenge which will cost both term and dollars. Something we KNOW Ken Holland is keen on doing. As long as he manages these things correctly and lets players go when they should go and trades them when they should be traded or have value. I'm pretty okay with that too.

I think BOTH Green and Daley should be traded. I don't think either of them are long term solutions to this team's defensive woes. If we can get an additional third rounder for Daley and a player/prospect/pick for Green. It should be done. Age catches up with players and I think both are headed in a downward trajectory. Not that they are there now. ...but by 20-21, I'm gonna go out there and say I'd rather have Trevor Daley (37) anchoring the third pairing with a youngster, than Mike Green (35) still pretending that it's 2015 and he's capable of putting up 45 points on the first or second pairing. ...and it IS a problem. None of those guys project to be high end top pairing defensemen. If they're going to be good, but not going to be that -- TOP GUYS, then we need to assess this quickly and make moves to make us better. Make a damn hockey trade. Trade picks/prospects/players for other picks/prospects/players. It needs to be done. We cannot afford to wait on a guy to possibly hit free agency. We cannot afford to wait for the next generational talent to maybe just maybe if we suck just enough to fall into our laps. Ken Holland needs to kick every tire available and then make some moves.

That should have read Ericsson, Daley, and Green are here right now and would need to be resigned in 20-21. If we're trading away Green at the deadline and we also are trading Jensen and Daley... and literally, I don't care if all three go, immediately... ...but if not them back there on the blueline, then whom? That was my not well fleshed out thought/statement. Should any of them be re-signed then for 20-21. No. Do I think one might? Yes, because Ken Holland is Ken Holland. Who do I think that player might be? Trevor Daley. 1 year extension. Over Mike Green -- because he will already be traded. As I said before, I SHURE HOPE SUM DEM ROOOKIES IS GUD. Because the above, while probably the reality we live in, sure does rely on a lot of luck. While already implied, included in your outlook @kick should have been, "Beyond making the cut we have to consider it very lucky all three of Hronek, Cholo, and Hicketts steal jobs, get those 20+ games and ALL end up living up to or surpassing their prospect projections." I don't like all of this luck that's involved. Certainly, we NEED to draft the best defensive prospects we can over the course of the next couple years and hopefully that shot or a shot at another top forward prospect that could make other prospects or current roster players expendable in trades. Because we NEED to trade for better/ a top defensemen. We NEED to sign better UFA defensemen (when and if available) and we NEED to discard that chaff instead of holding onto hopes that they might pan out or are good enough.

Green and Daley, along with Ericsson all need to be re-signed for 20-21. If both Daley and Green are not here... then whom?

I may have exaggerated the demise of Kronwall at the expense of other poster's passions for the player for s&g's. ...but much like Z, I think the writing is on the wall. Kronwall's time to mentor the kids is gone. In very short order our only defenseman with term will be Danny Dekeyser. Green trade deadline move either this year or next. Kronwall in the last year of his contract -- likely to retire. Jensen traded, re-signed, or moving on at the end of this year. Ericsson and Daley contracts are up next year. This is exactly why I think Daley gets an extension over anyone else in the 19-20 off season. Over Green if he doesn't get moved. Certainly over Ericsson. If he can stay healthy and has no considerable drop-off in games played and point production -- he's the vet I want. I do think Jensen stays too. I don't believe either of these guys are saving the team but they're not handicapping nor hurting the team either. If it's Jensen and Daley (or Daley plus prospect) as our second pairing, with say... Trouba on the first pairing with Dekeyser... I'm a much happier man. How do we get Trouba? Hell! Trade Mike Green to Winnipeg if he'll go. Green will have a better chance for a cup with th' Peg than here in Detroit. The Jets get out from under the pressure of re-signing disgruntled Trouba and they have an additional year of Green so their Cup window stays open just that much longer. Green gets paid slightly less than either Trouba or Meyers and maybe we retain some Green salary? The Jets can then figure out what to do with Tyler Meyers

BOY! I SHURE HOPE SUM DEM ROOKIES IS GUD. ALSO! Trade some forwards (plus defensive chaff) for defensemen, Ken. Do it. Retain some salary. Do not include draft picks. Just pieces for pieces. PLEASE. I DO NOT CARE JUST EFFN DO IT.

Yup. It's really all that can be said. I really don't see one single guy back there that I just have to keep. We could trade 'em all out and bring in six new guys and I don't think I'd look twice.

I don't have a great read on Jensen, but I agree that his youth and cost is what makes him an asset over Daley at this point. A playoff team would certainly take Daley off our hands in 2019-20 at the deadline. That's the earliest I see him being moved, but I predict a contract extension -- 2 years/ $3 million. 2019-20 Offseason -- Kronwall is already retired. Green will have been traded at the deadline. Ericcson will not be re-signed. Jensen is in the second year of his short, 2 or 3 year cap-friendly contract. Daley extended 2 years. This is my dream Ken Holland. Follow my dreams. ...and just to clarify @krsmith17 when you say "logjam" you really mean crapjam. Right?

Aren't you in NYC? If Holland doesn't make a hard push for Trouba to come to the D... well... he can't get F'd.
  13. Here's what's the definition of sustainable is, to me, when it comes to hockey: Enough population in a city that will pay for hockey games no matter whether the team is good or bad. Sure, Atlanta and Phoenix should be able to fill an area, but do people in these cities care enough about the game? Sure, if the team is decent they'll go support it, but they're not going to games if the team is on the rebuild or just plain sucks. Plainly. Simply. A franchise needs to have the ability to sustain itself despite sluggish ticket sales due to the team not being a current contender. Sure, corporate sponsorships and all of that stuff is great too if you can get it, but if you're a bajillionaire and you can't float a team through some lean years, gtfo. Yeah, I'm looking at you Eugene. You cheap, undeserving bastard.

Jags Jalen Ramsey Says He Could Make The NHL With 6 Months Training

This is not untrue. We can't. He's just mouthing off... which is stupid. Put up or shut up. The only way he's gonna do it is if somebody can throw money at his favorite charity and get a team to agree to let him on the ice for a practice. Then he'll be all, "Aww damn, this is harder than I thought"

Jag's Jalen Ramsey -- a Real Jag OFF. Amirite?! Seriously, someone give him a PTO and line him up against some minor league tough guy who's trying to make a name for himself/stay relevant. See how well he does...

Zetterberg's status in 2 years. MOD WARNING PAGE 6

From what I've gathered, Z isn't in a situation where he can't lift his kid or is suffering through life in the world of hurt, but rather that it's getting harder and harder/impossible for him to do the work to try to get into the best condition for the season. To me, it seems very much like the situation that Nick Lidstrom was in. Could the player still be an effective player in the NHL? Probably. Is it harder and harder for the player to get into condition to compete in the NHL? Yes. Does every player have, and please don't misconstrue my words here to equate that I think Z is lazy or doesn't have the ability ultimately do it, the drive and ability to do the conditioning it takes to get to that level? Therein lies the question. You can question if it's the right thing to do to play out the contract. ...but that's his decision and I'm sure a decision that's been established with the franchise. Hell, it's still up in the air anyway. Maybe he doesn't start the season, but joins after a player or two gets moved? You can question if it will ultimately help or hurt the team if he plays. Debatable for sure. Is it better that he plays and mentors the youngins -- even if he's only a part time player? Is it better for him to step away and let Larkin or whomever take the C and move into the New Era? Is it better for the rebuild? Whatever the decision and whatever the outcome -- nothing but respect to Z, from me.

    Rumors Thread

Peak off season stuff, from what I would deem a less than credible website, posting off air chatter from Detroit Sports Radio. We all know that most of these guys don't know squat about the Wings. From that site: Absolutely. Purposefully as well.
