injured Abby Out 2 Weeks with partially separated shoulder
e_prime replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
He went unclaimed at the beginning of the season when rosters were being trimmed, teams were figuring out what they had, etc. Now other teams know what they have, what they need and that Mitch Callahan is a realgud player -- with 7 goals 8 assists at the AHL level for a guy that's slated to have limited offensive upside at the pro-level, but is already a good grinder/agitator. Do wish Nestrasil had maybe cleared, of course. ...but the guy has 1 goal and 1 assist in 5GP with Carolina, averaging aprox. 3-4 minutes more ice time per game than he did here in DET, where he had an assist and no goals over 13GP. Not to knock his talent level, but even a blind dog finds a bone occasionally. ...but I really don't want to delve into what Holland thinks or how he values players, but in my estimation he's obviously doing something right. -

oh sarcasm, you silly fool... how you evade us so... i can't even spy you with my binoculars. So that'd be great for recalling XO, but if you want to bring up Callahan... it's a different story. It's that initial offering that I think we'd lose him. Unless of course we're all overvaluing our prospects as any fanboy/grrl tends to do. ...but of course most of us undervalued Nestrasil and he got claimed. So, there's that to chew on. -
Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Helm to start. -

Cally is exactly the type of 4th liner that we need. Can score. Can grind. Tenacious. Hard-working. Andersson can't score and it'd be nice to see more scoring from our 4th line. Jurco's been better on the 4th than Andersson. He shouldn't have to play there, but still made better use of that time than Andersson has. -

I'd love to see Callahan up with the team, but that's not going to happen unless there's a roster spot for him. Can't imagine that we'd want to expose him to waivers when he needed to go back down. Andersson and Cleary are definitely in the way for any other forward call-ups, and as much as I'd like to see Cally up... not any time soon unfortunately. -

Prepare for the Jurco Ascension. -
My words exactly.

Am I invited to this party? You can remind Bobby that he and I went to the same high school and church. (ok, so he was a senior when I was a freshman -- but his sister and I graduated the same year... also, I never really saw him at church, but I know his family went to the same Catholic church as my family did... it counts, no?)

Said it before, saying it again... we still need to make a move so that we can consistently rotate in a prospect on D. XO having to go back down because Smith is back and healthy, and there's no room on the roster, is an issue. Lash, Kindl, or KFQ need to get moved for this reason alone. Preferably Kindl. Then, KFQ. Especially if we make a trade and upgrade a D-man, preferably RH, I'm fine with that too.

It will take an injury or a trade.
-
Doubtful. I don't see a player of Ellis' calibre getting dealt as the Preds build from the net out. No way they're willing to part with a solid piece of their defensive core for something off our scrap heap. (Kindl)

GDT 11/26 GDT : Philadelphia Flyers 2 at Red Wings 5

Stat-boys ARE getting paid. ARE getting hired. ARE getting put into positions of "power and influence." ...and not to generate that ultimate stat or test that puts a team "over the top." It just doesn't work that way. Sorta like "equal measures of 'pugnacity, testosterone, truculence and belligerence.'" doesn't seem to put you "over the top" either. Moderation in all things, eh? -
Buffalo doesn't want that. What about Kindl, a quality defensive prospect, and a 3rd/conditional 2nd pick? EDIT: Quincey's gotta go in this trade too. So, ultimately; K+Q, a quality d-prospect, and a 3rd/conditional 2nd pick. Stocking their d-corps for this, next, and future years.

Right. ...because the stats guys aren't watching the games too. How do you think the stats get collected? Computer algorithms? ...and don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the "good ol' eyeball test" isn't good for anything... Analyzing the game in different ways gives different perspectives and just furthers the possibilities in the game. It works both ways. Don't know why that's so hard for some to grasp. -

Hilarious. Philly actually has an older team than us. Maybe Clement needs to be reminded he's doing a national broadcast... -

You guys are kidding, right? By far THE WORST. Clement is still stuck on how old our team is... "Oldest team in the league." Really, Bill. What about NJ where 95% of their forward core is 30+ ...and talking about how we over-ripen our prospects. No, duh Bill. This is how it works in Detroit. I mean, we could be Philly where we just trade everyone away before anyone gets any time at all. BLOCKBUSTER TRADES!!! As far as the game goes... we really need to figure out the third period. There was a hell of a lot of scrambling. First period, poor. Second period, good. Third period, poor. -
Which one? Currently got Jets v #lumbus on...

How much are you willing to pay? Lets hear your trade offer?

Doannn ssshhuuuuu telll meeee how mushhh I shud drnkkk.... I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM!!! Lol. Actually, I just wanted to jump into the conversation, but got to the party too late. You and krsmith keeping the conversation on defensive depth seriously on point. Kudos! As far as my overall posting of late... spent a week in Seattle training for a new job and then this week has been nothing but more training and whatnot so my hockey-life has been pretty "sparse." Just kinda jumping in where possible. Also, yes... especially during GTDs, I have been known to enjoy an adult beverage or two. So... yeah...

So... you guys are saying we have some options on the back-end? YAY!!! WE HAVE SO MANY OPTIONS!!!

With the constant looming of injuries when it comes to Datsyuk and Zetterberg, I don't see a future that doesn't involve the Wings giving Weiss a shot at the number two center position he was supposed to be and was signed to be. They need to EASE, not thrust, him back into the second line center position. Evaluate if he can be our second line center going forward, if NOT Evaluate if he can be a top line winger, if NOT Evaluate his worth to the team vs. his cap-hit/salary, then and only then can we explore trade options for Weiss. We're always clamoring for reclamation projects up in here... and well, we got one. We've had one. Last night could be the preview to the coming out party that we've been wanting so badly. (Even those who were against this signing from the get-go have to be happy about last night's play from Weiss.) Ideally at the center position: #1. Dats or Z (whichever is healthy -- if they're both healthy, great! Keep them together.) #2. Weiss #3. Sheahan #4. Glendeniinnginiginng Helm is your most expendable center with the most value. That being said, I don't see him being moved anytime soon especially when we still need to evaluate Weiss.
