Weiss sent down to GR- conditioning assignment

I can't imagine Weiss, his agent, nor the Detroit Red Wings would have allowed contracts to be signed if there wasn't confidence that he could make a comeback. Now all we can do is manage the situation as best as possible and for Weiss to either get back to work, or hang 'em up.

    TANK IT! 2014-2015 Season

Yes, there is a possibility, but not by much. As much as I want to think/hope/pray that Marchenko/Oullette/Sproul/etc. ultimately have a higher ceiling than Q or K. They're still highly unproven. I think the likelihood of more mistakes made by an all rookie third pairing... (That, let's be honest has been suggested by some here on LGW, but would probably nevereverneverneverevernevernever happen under Babcock) ...by either poorly pinching in, or through defensive zone turnovers could lead to costly goals that could decide games leading to us falling in the standings. ...but still probably not enough to garner us a top-five draft pick. I mean, that's what everybody wants when they say, "TANK IT." No? ...and just so that I'm not misunderstood. I don't think that having middling guys... what did I say before? "servicable" ...like K, Q, and Lash bogging down the third pairing is the way to go either. Jettison one or two of the three. Hell, jettison all three and get an upgrade. Either way you can then rotate in a kid or kids. Anyway you look at it, you're still NOT TANKING. It's just the difference between a realistic, and measured approach and an insane one. The previous of which, unbeknownst to some and contrary to the belief of many, is the way that the Red Wings Organization works. They're not going to have a rookie third pairing just like the plan has always been that they're not going to tank. #NEVERTANKING

    TANK IT! 2014-2015 Season

To consider tanking an option... yes, absolutely. That are doing so well thus-far, plus the fact that we have so many high quality D prospects chomping at the bit to get to the show... yeah, the results mean that we are going to finish too high in the standings to get a high draft pick. On top of that, if we trade away any of those three, plus another player, or prospect for even a slight upgrade in D... yeah, that's going to definitely going to result in a better record. Which I'm all for. Upgrade. Play to win. Forget tanking.

    10/29 GDT - Red Wings 4 @ Capitals 2

Yeah? How's that? You don't save yourself a single key-stroke in it's "shortened" form. One of two reasons why I use nicknames. If I spelled out everyone's name, my posts would get that much more lengthy. So it saves time. The other reason is that I'd hate to engage the wrath of the spelling police. I can barely spell Ericsson right. I can never remember if it's two Cs or two Ss or a k. Don't even get me started on Abracadbrakator.

    10/29 GDT - Red Wings 4 @ Capitals 2

Regarding last nights game: Looked pretty flat for most of the game. Glad to see that they overcame some horrible officiating and that Babs switched up that top line to get both Z and Dats going. Z didn't have his best game and honestly, I thought Dats looked invisible for most of it too. There's no denying that Abby has been great on that top line. If you're thinking otherwise, you're wrong. Two goals that Echolalia pointed out were not a result of shots being banked off of him by Dats. Moving Nyquist down to the second may get a spark going for them. Ideally having a top line of Z-D-A second line of Nyquist - Weiss - Mule, and third line centered by Sheahan or Helm would be spectacular. I don't see a Sheahan or Helm centered second line being all that formidable. And let's all be real boys and girls; Jurco, Tatar, and Nestrasil still have a lot to prove in this league. While so far they're off to a slow start in the 2014-15 campaign, you really shouldn't be all that surprised. They're young, unproven, and two of the three are really just seeing their first shot at making the dance. So let's let them play while we wait for Mule's return and Weiss' eventual coming out party. (being highly optimistic on that second one, but I'm not going to give up just yet.)

    TANK IT! 2014-2015 Season

I don't hate the contract either... It's just slightly above what I would say is a fair market price for Q. The only reason I don't like it is the fact that we've got one too many third pairing/serviceable as a second pairing defenseman. Q, K, and Lash -- say what you will about each player and their style of play/skill level, but all are serviceable on that third pairing. Problem is: We only need two of the three to allow us to bring up prospects and rotate them in and out no matter who their partner down on the third pairing is. This log-jam of decent defenseman is going to (dragging this post and this thread back, kicking and screaming to being back on topic) keep us from having a high draft pick this upcoming year.

    Lines Thread

I'm not high on Myers. If he could be had for the right players, sure... I'd take him off of Buffalo's hands. He has just as much upside as he has risk. I'm leery of trading any of our forward prospects that haven't been given a chance to mesh with the team just yet, but if you're going to get him someone like Juro, Pulks, and/or Nesty are going to be part of the package along with Kindl and a either a defensive prospect or lower line forward. Larkin and Mantha should be untouchables at this point. We just don't have enough of a sample size of their work to know if they're gonna make it. ...and if you are going to trade them, it's gotta be for a legit scorer or defenseman, not a reclamation project. Finally... yes, if Myers goes to somewhere like Anaheim, it's destined to work. Seriously. He will flourish on a true contender. He might struggle here for a bit, but certainly not as bad as he is doing in Buffalo where ALL THE PRESSURE is on him to perform as a #1 Defenseman.

    Franzen to 7-day IR

Well, if you don't get them in the lineup and you don't let them get ice time to actually score and figure out their game and/or see if they can stick in the NHL... How will you know if it's truly a problem? Do we just have bodies or do we truly have depth? I don't like that Franzen is out. I really don't. I'm not one to harp on his softness, streakiness, or how he's prone to injury. With his start, it's a shame he's not able to be in. That being said, we've got Jurco, Nesty, and Weiss all who need to figure out their NHL game and their roles on this team. This is their opportunity. Let them have it.

    Franzen to 7-day IR

Maybe not against MTL, probably not even against PIT. ...maybe for the Philly game? We know he's not in, but why not rotate him in? He's had a very small sample size this season to see where he's at, and if it's a sink or swim kind of situation (which I think we all think it is for Weiss) Then you've at least gotta get him out of the kiddie pool and throw him in the deep end.

Myers close to become a wing?

Very true. Belive that Holland was very much still of the "we don't need to pay people to come here, we're a destination team" mindset.

I don't want to wish injury on anyone, but if this somehow hurts the Lightning when it comes to winning games... I'll take it.

    Franzen to 7-day IR

...and sucks. Look at it this way. You're getting Datsyuk back. You get to mix some lines up. Maybe Weiss gets in. It's a shame that Franzen is hurt when he's been off to such a good start, but it happens. We know it happens. With this team it ALWAYS happens.

Myers close to become a wing?

Price on Wideman is probably reasonable now, but will definitely go up as the season progresses. The Flames will be smart to hold on to him and get as much as they can... any team that covets him should make the move sooner than later. The same goes for Green. Other names to consider: Brian Campbell (FLA) - Name that gets tossed around a lot. Unsure why we would touch his cap hit and the fact that he has yet another year remaining on his HUGE cap hit. Also, he's a lefty. Also, HIS HUGE GINORMOUS CAP HIT. Any of the Jets D-men that are still remnants of the Atlanta Thrashers days are intriguing to me: Zach Bogosian, Toby Enstrom, M. Stuart, maybe Byfuglien -- although he seemingly plays forward now. Can you imagine that big boy in front of the net ala Holmstrom on the PP. I mean, something has to give in the 'Peg, no? Especially if Cheveldayoff wants to keep his job. ...but that probably won't happen. They'll just *sigh* fire Maurice and hire someone like Bylsma or Carlyle (when he's fired) Petry. I know it's up on the front page, but... Trade Kindl and Lash to Edmonton for Petry. Oil get two defensemen for the price of one. Kindl is signed for a few years so and they can use him. Lash probably gets a chance at being a regular roster player and if he sticks, can sign for more money than he'd make in Detroit. Petry isn't going to re-sign there. If he doesn't re-sign here, no big whoop. We alleviate a log jam at D. Bring up some prospects and see what you've got. Kronwall, Ericsson, Dekesyer, Smith, Quincey, Petry, prospects rotate in. Not shabby at all. Win for us. Win for EDM. Winners all around. #winning

Myers close to become a wing?

I don't have much interest in Myers. His size is something to consider, but I think we've got some prospects I'd rather see up with the team before we start trading for a guy who hasn't had much success in the league, barring his rookie year. (I know, I know he plays for Buffalo.) While Carlson, Letang, or Burns would be fabulous additions to the blueline... those guys would cost WAYYYYY too much in a trade and are probably going NOWHERE. (Carlson is signed long-term at a great cap-hit. Letang is the Penguins d-corp. Only guy signed long-term. Burns has played both F and D for SJ, is very versatile. Have no idea why they'd ever ever ever trade him.) Green might be a nice deadline acquisition (RENTAL ONLY) if Washington is looking to free up some cap-space for a forward, but unless we're somehow getting rid of Kindl and Quincey in the process... I don't think we'd want to re-sign him anyway. Yandle probably isn't going anywhere unless he wants to get out of Arizona and I don't know what a realistic package for him would start at. He's not the type of player that you can just toss leftover/unwanted pieces at to obtain. You're also talking complete overhaul of the D-corps if you're bringing Yandle over. Malik mentioned him earlier today as a player to watch now, but I've had my eye out for him back when he was a pending FA in 2012 Dennis Wideman - Calgary - RIGHT HANDED. He has three years left at $5.25 million per season and his name is out there. There was early concern with him not being on the roster, but 6 games in he has a goal and two assists on a team that may be going in a different direction. Giodano, Smid, Engelland, Russell all signed through next year. T.J. Brodie is all but extended at this point. It's quite possible that the Flames may be looking to shed some of that salary that Wideman carries as they rebuild. Kindl could slot in there nicely, as he's a slightly "cheaper," (but also slightly less effective) version of Wideman. No, I'm not suggesting a straight up Kindl for Wideman trade. That's silly. It would definitely have to include a pick and prospect. ...and yes, I know, he has a no-trade. They can be waived.

    Devils Sign Tootoo

I've never been so disgusted by such antics in my entire life! Not really on topic, but I'll just leave this here as well -- Downie runs Nielson who unfortunately has his head down but, Hamonic takes exception to the vulnerable hit: Both of these videos are the type of toughness and fighting that I still appreciate within the game... and good for Tootoo for getting signed and keeping his spot.

Joe Louis Arena to be Demolished

I've only been to a handful of Wings games at the Joe and most of them were before I moved to New York City. I'm planning on going to a few Isles games as it's the last year in the Coliseum. So, I definitely need to make it back "home" to the D and see the Wings in the Joe before it goes.

    TANK IT! 2014-2015 Season

No tanking for the Detroit Red Wings. Let the season play itself out. If we end up being as horrible as some of you think we're going to be: Get some of the young d-men up, into the system, and showcase them on the ice. Figure out which ones we want to stick with and develop. Then, move up in the draft by packaging some defensive prospects. ...but even in the loosest of terms; in no way, shape, or form should this team "tank"
