According to the Russian paper Sport-Express, the drug cordiamine (banned central nervious system stimulant) was found to have been administered to Cherepanov 3 hours before his final game. The investigating commission still maintained that miocardytis was the cause of death. No mention of any steroids. The doctors of his team, Avangard, are suspended indefinitely.

I happened upon this photo and thought it worth sharing Flying Octopus Enjoy!

It's amazing, how spoiled we the Wings fans are. The current record, projected over 82 games, would end up being 56-16-10 or 56 W and 26 L, if you prefer. That is a better record than every President Trophy winner has had since at least 2000, except the one year when the Wings had 58 wins. Relax and enjoy the ride. Yes our team D is not performing as it had last year. But I would become concerned only if that continued into February. Before that, there's plenty of time to make corrections. And it's not like it is costing us too many points. EDIT - Heres an ESPN.com article on this topic that I agree with 100%.

Your point would be very valid, if you were talking about USSR circa 1975. In 1990, the situation was very different. Perestroika was at its peak, and Fedorov knew very well that neither he nor his family had much to worry about. If he waited 8 months or so, he could have left normally just like dozens of other Soviet hockey players. He was impatient, and he didn't want to go through complicated bureaucratic procedures and psychological pressures. I respect the heck out of Fetisov and Larionov for bulling through the Soviet sports bureaucracy and leaving honorably and legally, although it cost them a lot of money and nerves. They opened the gates for the younger players. Fedorov went along the path of least resistance. Just like Radulov, and now Valentenko. I may sympathise with their desire to "strike iron while its hot", but that doesn't make them heroes or villans. It's just a business decision.

If they are really concerned about future development of their game, they all should start learning Chinese.

So, on top of the 2.33 mil. a year, Radulov also gets some extra vacation? Those IIHF bastards!

I see where you are coming from. It's just that this topic is being discussed on then basis of almost no facts at all. Even less then with most internet discussions. But what the heck, here's my take, based on the almost nothing that we know: This property is obviously a vacation/investment property. The real estate market in Florida tanked, especially in the higher price segment. That means that a home in South Florida now may be worth 70% of what it was worth 1 year ago. If it was bought in late 1990s, any equity that Fedorov up built in it is now gone. Any investment adviser would recommend cutting your losses and letting the bank take the property over, so you wouldn't have to pay mortgage, upkeep, taxes, etc. on a property that you have no equity in and can't sell for anything close to the amount you owe on it. A lot of real estate investors do this as a routine matter when the market tanks. Why shouldn't the real estate investor by the name S. Fedorov do the same?

You must have missed the sarcasm emoticon But seriously, I doubt that out of 1000 randomly selected Americans 50 would have ever heard of a Sergei Fedorov. So I don't think he ranks in celebrity anywhere near MC Hammer or Barlley, or any actress/entertainer/pro athlete (non-hockey), as someone compared him to above.
-
And my point was that we don't know much at all. Ity could be fraud, it could be failure to pay on his debts, it could be an honest business dispute, it could be that someone else used him as a loan guarantor, it could be a straight business decision based on what the market value of the collateral is vs the outstanding loan, it could be a million of other things. It could be a newspaper fubrication. We don't know. And yet you jumped to an unflattering conclusion , when you could have gone either way. This is really almost a pure test of one's subjective attitude toward Fedorov. Give one a barest minimum data, that in itself is neutral, and see which way their judgement goes.

Since when are the hockey players, especially foreign born, are celebrities in the US?
-
I can not believe that this idiocy lasted for 2 pages already. We know virtually nothing about this. All we know is that a bank claims that a loan was taken out in the name of SergeI Fedorov and that payments on this loan were stopped. We don't know anything else. And in this thread, folks who don't like Fedorov took an opportunity to bash him once more, and the folks who like him wanted to defend him. One can constract an equally plausible case for or against Sergei. Either will fit the few facts that we do know. For example, do we know who lives/lived in the Florida house? How much was the price of it and is 2 mil. the initial loan or a residual? When did the payments stop? Why? What is the market value of the property vs. the outstanding loan amount? Are/were there any other parties to the deal? If I wanted to bash Sergei, I'd conclude that maybe the value of the property fell a lot and it is now worth much less than he owes on it. So it is cheaper to walk away. Maybe the collateral horse went lame? Alternatively, if i wanted to defend him, I'd think that maybe this is he Miami mansion of the certain Anna K. which she got in the divorce, when Feds got the mortgage. See, we simply don't know enough to make any kind of judgement based on more than whether we like or dislike him. Not to mention that this is really a personal matter and the media had no business sticking their noses in it. It's not like Sergei is running for office and the public needed to know.

According to the leading Russian sports paper "Sport-Express", Nashville forward Alexandr Radulov signed a lucrative 3-year contract with "Salavat Yulaev" of the Russian league. He had 1 year remaining on his rookie contract with Nashville. Radulov scored 62 pts last season. EDIT-spelling

Sport-Express This is the article in the Russian paper, use your own translator. The headline reads: Aleksandr Radulov: "Ufa is better."
-
I kind of don't fully believe it yet either. Life in Nashville really must suck for Radulov to do this. He made the NHL the hard way - through the minors. As to the "gentlemen agreement" between the leagues, Columbus just signed Filatov who has a year left on his contract with CSKA. Until they actually sign an official treaty with IIHF and the other European hockey countries, any handshake deal would be a non-starter.

Freezing? Colder than he is used to in Tampa, maybe. Its not like he was playing outdoors. The temp at the ice level should be in the low 50s. Flue is caused by a virus. Not any "unhealthy conditions". Diarreah, cholera, e-coli etc. are caused by unsanitary conditions. Which would be hard to find anyway, in the $1000/night hotels that he was staying at. Own toilet seat is just another "small" detail that the writer got wrong. To be sure, the story about the toilet paper (or lack thereof) is more plausible. But only if Vinny was using a free public restroom in a high traffic area, like a railroad station. If he used a paid one, there would have been an attendant there with all the supplies that may be needed. Hole in the floor type "Turkish" toilets do still exist in some places. It is embarassing. While they are uncomfortable for a 50-year old fat woman, they should not really be a problem for a fit young guy.
