    Pulkkinen claimed by Minnesota Wild

With the Las Vegas expansion draft coming, the value of the prospects who are not NHL ready in 1, max 2 years has probably fallen through the floor. This may be one of the reasons they were waiv ed and not traded

For all practical purposes, Canada DID have two teams (maybe 1 1/2). Only one is in the finals, though

I'm not sure what that insurance covers. It would have to cover medical expenses if an injury is suffered during WC play, and perhaps some living allowance. But since they have no salary coming in, that can't be insured, can it? So if they do get hurt during WC, insurance will run out as they heal from the injury, and then what will they do? No one would sign them to a contract if they are seriously injured.

    Ryspayev Should Be Banned.. Disgusting.

I realize that you are joking, just remember that as a result of Ryspaev's actions a Slovakian-born player had to go to the hospital with severe concussion, and that the team he beat up on was a Beijing-based team, which has Swedes, Finns, Russians, and Chinese players on it.

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

That's a bit strong, IMO. I still think Pavel was an outstanding player even compared to past Wings greats, and should be recognized as such. I just dislike his (or more likely his advisors) attempt to sugarcoat his decision to quit the NHL while still more or less on top. Just say it like it is: I can't play at a level I am used to, so I am moving to an easier league. Don't feed us bullcrap about "family" when it was clearly not the deciding factor at all.

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

Easier, yes, easy, no. And his hometown team and the team he will play for are in different conferences, so, he'll visit his hometown exactly once, unless both team make it to Gagarin Cup finals, which is extreeemly unlikely. He went for most money he could get in Russia, regardless where he will be in relation to his family. If Vladivostok paid him the most, he'd played there, 7 time zones away from his family, while still in Russia. As it is he is "mere" 2 time zones away. Family? What family?

Vasilevsky hadn't played nearly as many games, and his stats are not vastly superior to Mrazek. I don't think he is a good comparable.

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

I think you misunderstood my argument. Here's what I am trying to say: Let's stipulate that Pavel wants to 1. Play in his home country 2. keep playing hockey even if he can't/doesn't want to paly at NHL level 3. Be closer to his family He has 3 possible choices: A. Play one more year in Detroit B, Play in St Petersburg C. Play in Ekaterinburg for much less money Option A doesn't satisfy any of his desires Option B satisfies 1 and 2, but not so much 3, Option 3 satisfies all 3 of his goals. Pavel chooses Option B. That suggests to me that in his ranking of wants, want #3 is not very important, because he could have chosen Option C that meets all 3 requirements, but instead he chose option B that pays more but doesn't meet desire #3. Ergo, he prefers to make more money rather than being 2-3 hours closer to his family. Given this logical chain, I say that he is not motivated by family reasons as much as he is by the first 2 reasons. Therefore I dislike him saying that he wants to be closer to his family, when his behavior shows clearly that this is at best the 3rd reason in importance compared to playing in Russia and making most money he can get there. To illustrate my point: Suppose you went to the grocery store and saw apples and peaches sold for $1.99/lb You bought apples. If you then tell me that you like peaches better than apples, I will look into your shopping basket and know that you do not actually like peaches more than apples, because you could have bought peaches, but got apples instead.

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

Look. I am from Siberia, and I have family there. I know exactly how flying there and back feels, and how to Skype with the time difference. It just requires some prior planning and it is NOT a big deal. Which is why I believe that this couldn't be a reason for moving from Detroit to St Peterburg. If he moved to Ekaterinburg, or, failing that, Magnitogorsk or Nizhny Novgorod or even Omsk, it would have made significant difference for family reasons. But moving to St Peterburg or Moscow doesn't improve things in that respect significantly, compared with being over here. Therefore, he is motivated in his decision not by family but by other things. So just say so, no reason to imply family hardship when you are not going to relieve it that much by moving. That is my only point. I don't like when public figures assume that the public is dumb and would eat up anything they say.

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

I thought that the hypothetical here was that Datsyuk was out with an injury and went to see his family in Russia? Meaning out for more than a day or 2? In that case, you fly there, sleep for 6-8 hours and you are fine the next day. Spend a week in Russia, fly back, repeat. I have done it myself, it is not a big deal if you are going for more than a few days. I don't care about the salary cap hit at all. I doubt we will get Stamkos, and if we don't, then we are not going to get anyone better than Datsyuk would have been, even at his age. So it's a wash for me - having Datsyuk for one more year or getting tier 2 FA or 2 instead.

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

If he's out with injury he could fly wherever he wanted from Detroit too. Time difference is not a big deal. It's 8 or 9 hours b/w Detroit and E-burg (depending on the season), so he can call after the game at 11pm and it would be 8am there, or he can call in the morning, 9am and it would be 6 in the evening there. Not onerous at all for either party. Again, I have nothing against Datsyuk playing in Russia, I just think he need not have brought his daughter into this. No reason for it. Pavel is my favorite player all time, and I have seen Kharlamov, Maltsev, Bobby Hull, Guy Lefleur, Larry Robinson play. I just lost a bit of respect for Pavel over this, I thought he was a real stand up guy, but money talks even to the best of us, I guess,

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

I am not bitter, as I said, I don't begrudge him this, but why insult our intelligence with " wanting to be closer to family stuff"? Many times he said that he is concerned about his daughter becoming a teenager without him being there for her. This can only mean his first daughter, that lives in Russia with his first wife, in both of their hometown - Ekaterinburg, in the Urals region. SKA St Petersburg and Automobilist Ekaterinburg are in different conferences, and SKA will not be playing Automobilist in Ekaterinburg more then once a year, unless both team make it to Gagarin Cup finals, which is very unlikely in the latter case. I doubt Pavel would be able to fly even 2 hours away in the middle of the season. So the only extra time he would get with his daughter will be that 1 visit to E-burg, and also perhaps after the end of the season (KHL season is shorter), but Pavel will definitely be on team Russia for the World Championships next Spring, so he'll be busy until late May anyway, even if SKA doesn't go far in the playoffs. Because of all this, I believe that he will gain at best 2-3 days per year more with his older daughter than if he stayed in Detroit. If he really wanted to be with his daughter, he would be playing for his hometown team, but it couldn't possibly pay him a third of what SKA will. Therefor it is all about the money and lower competition, and has little to do with family. Again, if Pavel wants to play in Russia, fine. Just don't bring family stuff into this, especially if it is so transparently not the deciding factor..

Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

So much for wanting to be closer to his daughter. It's about 2000 mi from St Petersburg to Ekaterinburg, where his daughter lives. Might as well fly there from Detroit. I don't begrudge Pavel his desire to play in Russia, but please stop using tearjerking excuses (want to be closer to his family) and just tell the truth: "I can't play in the NHL as well as I used to, so I'm going to an easier league, and will make more money there." 7.6 mil/yr with 13% taxes >> $7.5 mil/yr with 40%+ taxes

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

Let's see, the Canadian dollar is worth less then a US dollar, which makes Phil Kessel better than Crosby. A Euro is worth more than the US dollar so H Sedin is better than Kessel A Kuweiti dinar is worth over 3 US dollars so there must be a Kuweiti hockey player that is the best in the world. In a word, laughable. P.S. I don't want Radulov on the Wings, and wouldn't even if a dollar was worth 5 kopeek (0.05 of a Russian ruble)

USHockey Fan sneaks into Russia's locker room.

If the video is real, this guy made a serious mistake. He let the FSB see his face while "desecrating" the Russian national team locker room IN MOSCOW. That is really underestimating their capabilities. If the video is real, I see charges coming against this guy.

    IIHF World Championships

Isn't Panarin on a standard rookie contract? 3 yrs about $1 mil per? Looked it up. He's got 1 more year at 3,387,500, then he'll be an RFA. So a significant compensation due to Chicago if someone else signs him.

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

His short list probably is identical to the list of the teams with enough room under the cap to accommodate the humongous salary he expects to get.

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

Where does the idea that Radulov is looking for a short, relatively cheap contract come from, anyway? His agent would have to be a complete idiot not to ask for both money and term, seeing that teams are lining up to sign his client. At 29, he should look for a 5 years + contract, to secure his future. And if he grows tired of the NHL he can always run away to Russia, wouldn't be the first time. P.S. Radulov was making over $4 on his contract with CSKA Moscow (at current exchange rates). Anyone who thinks he would accept anything less than $5 mil per year for at least 3 years is deluding himself. He is probably looking for $7 mil per, for 4-5 years, and maybe would accept 6 mil. P.S.S. Given the low tax rates in Russia, $4 mil per year there is the same (after tax and escrow) as about 6.5 mil here.

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

I am not so sure that he matured. I think that's a storyline his agent is pushing. He was supposed to report to the Russian national team training camp on 4/27/16. He never showed up, no explanation, no phone call, nothing. Then the reporters ran into him in New York where he apparently was talking to NHL teams. A mature professional would at least warn the national team management that he would be late for camp, if not asked for permission to be late. Not Radulov. He figured that he is such a huge star that the team rules, or rules of simple courtesy, don't apply to him. And he was right, the national team, preparing for the home (held in Moscow/St Petersberg) world hockey championship, took him back with no disciplinary action. He will pull the same crap when some NHL team signs him, mark my words. I just hope it will not be Detroit.

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

You really expect Fedorov, who is the GM of Radulov's current team, and who is trying to re-sign him for his club, would help Detroit sign him instead?
  23. sibiriak

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

Some scoring, maybe, but the only toughness Radulov can provide is looking angry sitting in the penalty box for 2+10, having committed some dumb penalty and then cussing at the refs for calling it..

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

Yeah, he probably aged out of RFA status. Too bad. He's an a-hole, I'd rather not see him in red and white. I hear orange and black suits people like him

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

He only played for Nashville for 2 years, and then came back for a few games to "finish" his contract in 2011-2012. That makes him an RFA at best. So Nashville should have the right to match any NHL contract offered or get compensation? And it was $9.2 mil. at 2012 exchange rate. $1 was worth less than 30 roubles then. It is about 70 roubles per dollar now, so his rouble salary is worth less than 4 mil /year. Which is probably why he is suddenly interested in playing over here.
