The road to success is always under construction.

Of course the stats are skewed. But I just wanted to point out that Ty has just one game of playoff hockey on his résumé. And yes, I would rather play a goalie with past succes, because A) I think his play has improved significantly and B) the playoffs have nothing to do with the regular season. Besides that, we all know that the playoffs are not only about playing the game, but also about being mentally fresh. Conklin has no experience in either of those aspects. -

You're quite te defensive expert, aren't you sir ? I wonder who you are going to blame this summer, should we not win the Stanley Cup ... -

The reason I started this thread was not to have "Chris Osgood: reliable starter or just a lucky goalie" -discussion No. 5298. We all know he's having a horrendous season. Let's not even argue about that. And if we (SUPRISE SUPRISE) are going to continue this never-ending, mindnumbing story about his blue-line goals ihe let past him in the 98 playoffs, why don't we talk about Ty Conklin's playoffs record: 1 game played, 1 game lost, 10.00 GAA, .667 SV% I'll take this guy: In 1997 Ozzie was the No.1 goalie. Mike Vernon started the playoffs and did admirably. In 1998, ***** all you want now... Chris Osgood won the Stanley Cup. In 1999 Osgood played great untill he went out with a knee in jury. He didn't return until the 5th game against the Avs. In 2000 the Wings failed collectively and miserably in round 2 against the Avs. In 2001 Osgood, Draper and Lidstrom were the only ones to show up in games 4,5 and 6 against the LA. Ozzie got waived. In 2002 Ozzie helped the Islanders to get into the playoffs for the 1st time in 8 years, losing a hard fought battle to Toronto in the first round in 7 games. In 2003 after been traded to the Blues he played all 7 games in yet another 7 game first round against the Canucks. In 2004 after a great regular season, the Blues were no match for the San Jose Sharks. In 2006 Ozzie didn't play in the playoffs, Manny Legace did and the Wings lost in the 1st round to the Oilers. In 2007 Ozzie didn't play in the playoffs, Dom Hasek did and the Wings lost Western Conference finals to the Ducks. In 2008 he helped win us another Stanley Cup with a record of 14-4 with a 1.55 GAA . All in all, 106 playoff games, 59 won with a 2.11 GAA. [edit: Tori Spelling] -
That's it Ozzie !

What do you mean by EVEN with the Pens ? It's not like that was a bad team last year... I don't mean to downplay Conklin's performance, because he has been steady this year. But let's not make him more than he is. In his entire NHL-career (Edmonton, Columbus, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Detroit) he has never been able to grab hold of the starter's job.

I don't want to make a big deal out of this, but Stone Cold Domestic Abuse Steve Austin is no match for Steve Austin. Just to be clear..

His real name is Steve Austin.

Cujo's next outing: 4 goals on 9 shots... 0.555 SV%

And this coming from you.... that's truly funny !

Vokoun has my vote for the Vezina.
-
Ozzie/Roy was awesome, but if I had to pick a No.1 it would be Cujo going berserk. Classic ! Also funny: Conklin is 10, Ozzie is 7, Brodeur is 1 (go figure) ...
-
Absolutely. Why do you think Ozzie was as relaxed as he was ? Those two had a great time together and pushed each other.
-
Sir, you're absolutely right, Washington is not Detroit. Montreal is not Detroit. And that is exactly my point. The mere fact that Detroit is a power-franchise, arguably the best run franchise in the NHL somewhat eliminates the need for a goalie like Robert Luongo. And let's be honest, it doesn't take a GREAT team to win the Stanley Cup. The Ducks in 2007, the Canes in 2006 and the Lightning in 2004 .... seriously.. those were not GREAT teams...
-
Put Luongo in a team like Montreal or Washington and you have to Cup contenders right there. It's not like he's Ray Bourque who needs a star-laden team to have a chance to win the Stanley Cup. He needs a good team and there are plenty of those in the NHL. I just don't think Luongo is in need to sign with the Red Wings. But that's just my take..
-
Luongo won't sign for just one year. I wouldn't be suprised if Luongo would end up in Montreal, Chicago or Washington. Certainly not Detroit.

Maybe he actually means the Wings will be loose: easy going and relaxed.. But that wouldn't be very mindflylike, would it ? Nah.. he probably means they stink and they will lose and they shouldn't even be in the playoffs.. frickin' Red Wings !

Holy F*** !-boards.

Ozzie was horrible tonight. Three really soft goals. Nobody denies that and Ozzie is the first to point the finger at himself. What does it mean ? Not much I think. Chris had a couple of good, solid games and now has a bad outing. It happens. To everyone. Ozzie will be fine, let's move on.

Sir, please go easy on the bold. It's just not pleasant. Thanks.
