The first one to admit he's not playing up to par is Ozzie himself. He knows he has to lift his game. So has the rest of the team. Whether Conklin gets 2 straight starts or 5, Ozzie knows he can and will play better. Ty deserves his starts though. Good guy, good goaltender.

Marty Turco .842 Here we have the current numbers 27-34 on in svt% stat on NHL.com. These names all look familiar, right ? Indeed, every single one of them had a awesome 2007-2008 season. What happened then ? They became terrible goaltenders overnight ? Nope... most of the nights they are playing in front of godawful defenses and in spite of all their talent they can't get their own and partially their teams performance back on track. As soon as each of their team's D get their act together, these goalies will be out of the stat-cellar in a few weeks..

So true.

First and foremost: Chris Osgood. Not only because it's one of the best goaltenders of the past 15 years, but also because of his laidback and down-to-earth approach to life and hockey in general. For the same reasons I always liked Tommy Salo as well. Good, although somewhat underrated goaltender (IMO) who struggled to find his form after Salt Lake City 2002. I always liked Mike Richter, John Vanbiesbrouck and Michael Sthalenkov as well. Hardworking and nice guys.

Conklin is a nice guy and had a great run last year in Pittsburgh when he practically saved their season when Fleury was out. But other than that he has never shown any signs of being a undisputed starter. Not in Edmonton, not in Columbus and not in Buffalo. Besides that, I do think Ozzie has earned the right by now to be Detroit's #1.

I wonder if Dallas fans are trashing Marty Turco the same way .... Pfff... 5 games played and the "Who Should Be The Starting Goaltender For The Detroit Red Wings Question" startedm already.. Is that a record ? Okay, Ozzie hasn't been that spectacular, but if a team has given up 14 goals in 5 games, something went wrong looooooooong before that. Let's not panic.
