There is no logic in sports. Especially in goaltending.

Granted, in the end it's pretty easy to say it was a gamble that paid out, which it was. But true, it was somewhat of a gamble. Osgood wasn't coming of a good regular season, although had pciked up his significantly.

Yes, but as you mentioned, you thought the same thing last year. And you were wrong. So maybe (just maaaaaaaaaaaybe..) you're not that convinced. But you're right, as long as Mike Babcock doesn't give Osgood the time of day (I mean more than one game every 3 weeks), you'll probably never know..

I'll vote for Marty. He's still the measuring stick for all goalies in the NHL. Luongo is good, Miller is good, Thomas is good (although pretty far away from his last years' Vezina form..), but they are just no Martin Brodeur. p.s. Vokoun should be on the list.

All this because we suck at shootouts ? I heard no one complaining last year (10 SO, 6 wins). Granted, the shootout isn't the prettiest solution to decide the game, but as long as it's not in the playoffs, it does serve its purpose.

Goaltenders who drive hybrid, Japanese cars have better save percentages as well. Goaltenders who drink their coffee with lots of cream tend to be quicker from post to post. Goaltenders whose mother are named Susan, Lilly or Jennifer are more likely to leave the crease and mishandle te puck. Goaltenders who have an outspoken opinion about the Falklands War are more injury-prone thatn goaltenders who were once misdiagnosed as being diabetic. Goaltenders who let ITunes organise their music in C:\documents and settings\*goaltenders name*\Itunes\music library, rather than do it themselves have been known to be overlooked in the Vezina ballot.

Let Osgood play 3 or 4 games in a row. Let him get into a groove and build up some confidence and rhythm.

I reall wonder if other fans generate this much horsecarp as well on other internet-forums.. There will not be a single goaltender who can live up to the expectations in this town. Look what goaltenders we have had the last 10 years: Osgood, Hasek, Legace, Joseph and now Howard. Not a bad list of goaltenders, woudn't you agree ? But somehow we were able to found there weak spot and treat them like s***. Playing for Detroit means you get dropped like a bag of dirt as soon as you hit a bad stretch or you have some difficulty on or off the ice. It's pathetic.

No sir. Not good. Besides, it doesn't matter which goaltender will play for the Detroit Red Wings. Luongo, Quick, Miller, Bryzgalov or *INSERT NAME OTHER TALENTED GOALTENDER* It will never be good enough. We all think Howard is the next Sawchuk / franchise goaltender / multiple Vezina winner. But I feel sorry for the guy already. He's a goaltender for the Detroit Red Wings. Back to topic: It's obvious Jimmy has cooled off, along with most of the Red Wings. If there is a time to (re-) ignite a spark, this would be it. It's crunch-time. It's time for Chris Osgood.
