Why are Beezer and Barrasso better exactly ? Because both have a Vezina and Richter hasn't ? Mike Richter was MVP for several seasons in New York on a very mediocre team. Besides that, his career stats are way better than Beezer's or Barrasso's. However, that (better stats) doesn't make him a better goaltender than B and B. IMHO, those three are on the same level of goaltending. There isn't one who really stands out.

Somehow I think Minny will win. I know, it's not a nice thing to say, but I have this feeling.. (and no, this has NOTHING to do with Dom being in net..)
-
We're doing great, but if Datsyuk or Zetterberg is out of the game for 2 months with an injury, we could use someone who could take over.
-
That would explain their almost similar save percentages...

I'm not going to say they are a lock, but I do think they'll make the playoffs.

I agree, Jen. Dom played ONE good game against Montreal. Which is good, don't get me wrong. And I want Dom to get back in the groove, too. But Ozzie has worked hard and has shown he's on pace for a career season. Credit where credit is due, people !!

I'm sorry, I meant miles away form-wise at this moment.
-
Ozzie is miles ahead of Bryzgalov, Khabibulin and Kiprusoff. And what on earth makes Khabibulin so special that he's "fun to watch" ? The twitch in his right eye when the camera is zooming in ? Granted.. that's funny.

I don't think a true Red Wing fan ever forgets what happened that summer. But it's certainly okay to be remembered now and then. -
I lost a lot of Niedermayer the last 6 months. Not as a player, but as a (supposed) teammate. It took him all these months to decide if he wants to plat again ? A really great player wouldn't do such a thing to an organization.
-
I dont' even want Ozzie to go to the All-Star game. It's not an All-Star game. It's back-by-popular-demand-Game. For me Ozzie is an All Star. He doesn't have to play in a F-ing event where as mention by someone before me, gets shelled in a game without any defense and even worse... could get injured. The All Star game lost lots of cred the last 10 years..

I guess when you ask people to make a list of the 10 best European players, most of them will try to make a list with players from the leading countries in hockey (Sweden, Russia, Finland, Czech Republic.) But it would be very easy to fill the list with only Soviet players. There were so many superb players in the 70's / 80's / 90's. Not every one of them was able to have a career in the NHL, so a lot of them are 'forgotten'. And that's a shame, really.

There are a lot of teams with mediocre goaltending. Sometimes with a starter who's not able to carry the load / team. Sometimes even without a backup who could act as a (temporary) reliever.. I think the following teams could use a goaltender: Colorado Avalanche: Budaj / Theodore / Wall. I'm not saying they are to blame for Colorado's disappointing season thus far, but a elite starting goalie could bring some stability to the team. Good fit: Cristobal Huet could be a possible solution. If Carey Price can prove he's able to shoulder the load, Huet could be possible trade-bait for the Canadiens. Edmonton Oilers: Roloson / Garon. Once, Roloson was Edmonton's playoff hero. Those days seem long gone. He shows his brilliance on some nights, but he's far to inconsistent to be the goalie Edmonton can rely on night after night. Same goes for Garon: Certainly not a bad goalie, but just too inconsistent. Good fit: Rumour goes the Oilers are interested in Olaf Kolzig. IMO, he's a better goalie than Roloson. However, Edmonton is not an upgrade over Washington for Kolzig. Pittsburgh Penguins: Fleury / Sabourin. Fleury, a No.1 pick in 2003, has been outplayed on more than one occasion by Sabourin, a "life-time backup". MA has responded on some nights with great play, but he has yet to show his first pick status. Fleury needs a mentor, it's obvious. Good fit: without a doubt, Curtis Joseph. He's still eager to play, has more experience than more NHL-tandems combined and can be the Penguins' to-go-guy if Fleury should collapse during the (end of the) season / playoffs. Tampa Bay Lightning: Denis / Holmqvist. Where Holmqvist shows signs of improvement last week, Denis is just horrible and not a good fit for the Lightning. However, I don't see Holmqvist carry Tampa (deep) into the playoffs. They need a veteran. Good fit: Call me crazy, but I think Vesa Toskala would do great in Tampa. Once Dan Boyle is back in the line-up and the defense will re-allign, he could be the missing link. Toronto Maple Leafs: Raycroft / Toskala. Before I comment on both of them, let's be honest: they don't get a lot of support from their defense.. on some nights they get none. Raycroft is still searching for his Calder-winning Boston form. I don't know what happened to him, but since that breakthrough season everything went downhill for him. Toskala is just not feeling comfortable in Toronto. In San Jose he was a calm and collected goaltender, now he's flopping all over the place, out of position the most of the time. Good fit: Hard to say, really. Curtis Joseph maybe, since he has a lot of credit in Toronto and has a calming presence. On the other hand they could need a young, hungry and cocky goaltender like Emery. Who knows.... it's Toronto... What do you think ?
-
Maybe... but who wants Raycroft ?? Same goes for Marc Denis.
-
I agree with toby91_ca. Recchi overstayed his welcome with 2 season IMO. Now when to quite dude. Which is.. about now.
-
I didn't. That's why I said: ONCE Dan Boyle is back...
-
Maybe counts, no ?

Jaroslav Halak is recalled is likely to start. (that's what I read at least..)

True, but when the Detroit Red Wings come to town, every team gives that little bit extra.

Olausson didn't even play 50 games in that one season he played for the Wings. And made 15 points. He was a cool dude, but it's not like he was a key factor for the Cup. Rob Blake would not thrive on our team. This team would painfully reveal that Rob Blake's best days are long gone.. Our team is fine as it is. It's not like we have major defensive porblems right now.

1 goal 6 assists in 25 games !! Look out Nick ... Here comes Rob Blake !
