It's hard to show for him if he doesn't get any playing time. Even if Ozzie was playing well, he wouldn't let Howard sit this many games out. Sometimes stinks here..

okay, I did some research. The modern era in the NHL begins in the 1967-68 season. We're all talking about Hasek, Roy and Brodeur. Yet nobody mentions Ken Dryden, Tony Esposito, Bernie Parent or Glenn Hall even. My top-5 from 1967 till now would be: 1. Brodeur 2. Hasek 3. Dryden 4. Parent 5. Roy

Would you take Ilya Kovalchuk if Lidstrom retires?

If our number 1 defenseman retires... we're gonna replace that spot with a sniper ? -
When does the modern era begin ?

Twice is many times ? (2004 and 2007)

Wow, an actual member of the Red Wings get some recognition and some people go on and on how we may have won more with Roberto Luongo in goal. Wow... just wow.

Yes, I think I did. I'm still right though...

Miller: .938 sv%, 1.89 GAA, 4 SO Brodeur: .921 sv%, 2.10 GAA, 3 SO So Ryan Miller has a slightly better save percentage and has one goal less every five games than Brodeur, that's it. That's your HUGE margin ? I tell you what a HUGE margin is: Olympic gold medal 1 / 0 Calder Memorial Trophy 1 / 0 Stanley Cup 3 / 0 Vezina Trophy 4 / 0 William M. Jennings Trophy 4 / 0 Ryan Miller is a great goalie but aside from his great season start so far, he doesn't come near Martin Brodeur. And yes, if it makes you sleep better at night, you can call me a Osgood fanboy, I don't care. Besides, everything you say just proves that you are just a Stanley Cup 2008 bandwagoneer. Hop on when the team is winning, eh ? That's the easy part, sir. Believing in your team when s*** is not going your way is the other. And that's not something you do not handle too well. Obviously. But hey, whatever gets you through the day, right ?

This pretty much sums up your immense hockey-knowledge..

yeah, the Devils or the Blackhawks might be a good fit..

I'm not saying Sawchuk wasn't the great goaltender who we all know he was. It just funny how many people are rocksolid in their belief that he is the best ever, without EVER seen him play. Besides that, I don't think you can compare Brodeur to Sawchuk. Hell, I don't think you can compare Brodeur to Dryden or Parent. Different era's, different goaltenders. But congrats Marty, hell of an accomplishment !

Right now, Leino is the reason humans have eyelids.

Milestone Watch - Chris Osgood Approaching 400 Career Wins
interminded replied to gcom007's topic in General
I only hope he gives Ozzie a fair chance. He played great for us tonight, 37 SA - 35 SV - 0.942 pct. Don't let him hanging now, Babcock ! -

Well said sir.

Sir, you are kidding me right ? Chris Osgood has to prove he's a capable goaltending ? You have been watching the playoffs these last two season right ? Yes, again with the playoffs. I'm not saying Jimmy Howard shouldn't be given the time to develop, but imo Babcock has two make the best of out of two situations, not just one.
-
Honestly, how many goaltenders can you name which have better numbers in their first year ? Besides that, he played 15 games and you want to compare him to three random first-season-goaltenders in the history of the NHL after a full season ? How subjective do you want to get ? Sawchuk never one a shootout and Jimmy has ? Jimmy has started more consecutive games in his first 15 NHL games than Dominik Hasek did in his first season ?
-
We're evaluating goaltending based on 15 games ? He played exceptional in how many ? 3 ? Maybe 4 ? No wonder that every single goaltender in Detroit disappoints at one point. Let's set the bar even higher for Jimmy... to make sure the bashing starts before the second half of the season... jeez.. Ask Raycroft about expectations after one good season. Or Steve Mason. Or Jim Carey Or Jose Theodore. And Jimmy isn't even close to those guys.

First of all, I'm a Ozzie fan. Not a blind one, mind you. I certainly know when the man is having a s***ty stretch and is playing like an arse. So far, not the case. Surely, the usual suspects are creating motive and opportunity to bash Osgood at every turn, so they don't have to read this. But Ozzie isn't playing bad. Anyway: I think Babcock is misjudging the current situation. This team plays mediocre. Face it. We have a lot of injured players and we lost a lot of good players in the summer. It will get better, but it will take some time. Meanwhile this reflects rather poorly on our goaltenders. Granted, Jimmy Howard has shown some amazing games, but some so-so games as well. Not the point. Thing is that it's hard to judge a goaltending on this team now. Babcock however isn't showing good coaching IMO. Osgood is your starter, not Howard. You need Osgood to raise his level, to raise his ego. Not Howard. A 15-year veteran isn't going to be more motivated by benching him. Let him start. Show the confidence. Even after a lost game. Even after two lost games. Start him, over and over again.
-
I think Babcock should have started Osgood again tonight. How can your starting goaltender get some rhythm and battle through stuff if he you bench him after every other game ?
