This is classic politics at work. This part of the interview should have been preceded by "The following message is not intended for our radio listeners, but intended to be a message directly to Zach Parise and his manager". Ahhh, the games teams play to get an edge.
-
This notion may have some merit if this were a one game-championship game..but even in this case, the best is the team that does what is required to advance/win at that particular point in time. However, in a best of seven series such as the NHL, I 100% completely disagree with you (respectfully). The best team always wins.

You don't understand comments/posts about different coaching styles/motivational styles in a thread about Calling the team out??? Awesome!!
-
I completely agree. Thinking about Babs in this regard, my gut is that he uses the hardass with the lower performing and younger players, and the other approach with the likes of Lids, Dats, Z, etc... It's hard to tell with Babs though, he's so composed in the media that I never know what the interaction is 'behind the scene".

Poster "Chunky Lover" posted about two ways in which to inspire; through love or fear. I simply made the comment about thinking of which of those two ways, as pure example, which one of those I thought John Tortorella subscribed to. I just picked Torts as an example not based on any winning/success that he's has or hasn't had...just picked him. Frozen-Man didn't read my statement that I chose Tort's as pure example, which lead to him making comments about how Tort's is a not a successful coach and who cares.
-
Note the words in my post "pure example". Just commenting on the concept of inspiring by love or fear in which which no teams or coaches were being referenced. No names, just the concept. I applied Torts to this line of thinking as an example because I can't really name a coach (who still has a job) that inspires their team via "love". Btw...you inspire me to want to read and comprehend posts before commenting. Thanks.

Thinking about this and asking myself this question as a pure example of the two way listed above to inspire: Does John Tortorella inspire performance through love? Does John Tortorella inspire performance through fear? hmmmmm

I get your point, however, IMO, whatever the circumstances...be it a sports, opposing teams jersey, words exchanged, college kids, and/or alcohol...no one has the right to put their hands on another human being. All of the listed factors are what is great about our country...you can say, wear, be whatever age, and consume alcoholic beverages (if you're of legal age) without being physically assaulted. I understand that someone getting trashed and running their mouth increases these chances of something bad happening, but it doesn't make it right. This situation totally sucks.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo (Jack Bauer style).

ha ha...totally. At least this time we'd have a doctors note

I'm surprised they didn't pull the trigger on having this done during the All Star break. Maybe it wasn't as imminent at that point. But you'd have to think that if it was, they would have done this at the break. In past years they've given much less substantive reasons for not sending players to this event....so I'm guessing that his knee has continued to get worse since the All Star break.

I decipher this "corporate speak" all day long...so this one was easy for me to interpret. Goal = A FUTURE accomplishment *So they are in fact saying, they want to best the best venue in hockey and have their team win the Stanley Cup....at some future point. I would put this in the "Long Term" goal category.

I think the Jackets are looking for a starting goalie in any deal for Nash. Hence why speculation around a trade with L.A.(Bernier) may be gaining some momentum.
-
You maybe right. However, he thrived last year without one of the best players in the league in Dats when he was injured (who he was playing some minutes with on the same line). So that being said, that doesn't make sense...he thrives when Pav is out, but we need to get him a top three player off the market for him to thrive again with Pav now back healthy??

I get your point. I didn't say it was clean, I'm just saying that it wasn't dirty. I don't think Ovie primary point of contact in this case was the head...more of the upper shoulder/chest which lead to his head slamming back. Nor do I believe he was aiming for Michalek's head. Btw...(this coming from one of his biggest fans/supporters) if you're judging whether or not a player leaves his feet as an indication of clean vs. dirty hit, you'd better start going back and re-classifying a good number of Kronners hits because he often leaves his feet (most cases...just a little ). This however does not sway my support and overall like for Kronners game, because I personally look at just more than leaving the feet to gauge whether or not a hit was dirty (e.g. what angle was the hitter coming from, what position was the hittee in, was it open ice or on the boards, did the hittee see the hit coming, were elbows up, was the hitter aiming for hittee's head, etc...). All in all though, it's professional hockey and non perfect hits are a part of the game. Having the league office dissect every big hit I just see as being a slippery slope to changing the game I (we!) love. I see your point though
-
Yeah, pretty much. I've watched it a bunch of time in slow-mo...and at the very least...it was a front/shoulder hit and wasn't from behind. NHL hit.
-
Ehh, whatever. Pretty much a shoulder to shoulder hit directly on the boards. Big hit, ohhh, yeah. A little late, maybe just a bit. However, it's professional freaking hockey. Getting into the minutia of every big hit just seems like it will ultimately end up changing the game via "new rules". The thing that I noticed, was Michalek immediately looks up at the refs looking for a call. Kind of lame. He got nailed and that's NHL hockey. The way this game was designed, he can always go hit Ovie back, challenge him to a fight, or have one of his teammates settle the score....why do we need someone in the head office to start regulating on ice play. The "prairie justice" element of hockey that has always naturally regulated itself on the ice, has always been something that I love about the game. Just saying. My link "It's NHL Hockey!!!...and you're bummed out because you got hit pretty good on the boards....go play intramurals brother!"

Try your local church or particular place of worship. If none of these exist for you, just look to the sky and begin appreciating.

The only problem I have with this article is using Quitting and Holmstrom in the same sentence. Tiny detail of the piece, but I could think of much better words to use in replacement after being in the league for 16 years. After his career, if that's called quitting....I want to be a quitter too.

Pre-game. The Detroiter Bar. Wings fan galore, good prices, good beer selection, good food, free shuttle to the game that picks and drops off directly outside of front door, AND...they'll give you a plastic cup to take your beer with you on the shuttle. Very close to Greektown. Post game. Loco's. Mexican restaurant in Greektown. Great, reasonably priced food to soak up the beers from the past 8 few hours. Have fun!

A slight challenge for Pav getting the "C" is the language barrier. Captains need to be able to interact and have discussions with the officiating crew--in English. As Rule 6 states, the team captain alone is the only one to hold this discussion privilege with the refs. I don't know if Pav's English is good enough to be effective with this role.

Only a matter of time. I believe that once he scores....he's going to go on a tear of epic proportions. Just a note on the "me shoot more" comments and an observation of his play as of late. My buddy pointed out to me to watch Dats (last 4 games) and how many times he dekes/fakes before shooting. I was amazed at how little he was. Mostly just wrist shots/backhands without any deke/fake to get the goalie moving. I know he's gripping a little tight right now due to the lack of points (comparitively), but his deke and quick moves before he released the puck were I thought one of his strong suites....maybe the best in the league. Just an observation.

Or.....not watch or not support. And since this whole thing all comes down to money (ticket revenue, concession revenue, team gear revenue, tv advertising revenue, etc...), ultimately our actions as fans (a.k.a. our money) can in fact lead to the firing of a GM, Coach, or Player. If Kenny's, Babs, or any of the players actions results in less butts in seats, less jersey sales, less tv share....something will be done-and that's a fact. Without us, they don't exist. So in a sense, our bitching and resulting actions can have a very big effect.

F*** you desperation and making the best puck possession hockey team/system in the world revert to "dump and chase". I think we carried the puck into the zone maybe 3-4 times last night?? Everything else was dump and chase. I couldn't believe it. We're not built with the overall roster size, speed, or grit to play that style. We need to be primarily carrying the puck into the zone like we have for 15 years or else we are at a huge disadvantage with the way this team is built. Ferrari on a dirt track.
